I had recently purchased the predator accuracy (would love to know your thoughts on these too) and I wasn’t originally thinking of getting ag boots, but I ended up getting a knee injury playing futsal that was just the right amount of wake up call I needed to actually consider getting myself a pair…and funny enough your reviews are so spot on in terms to how the shoes feel on my feet that I just have to go and get myself a pair of these! Any reccs on where to buy? Nike does a nikeid version, but if I can avoid spending extra $$$, I would hahah. Regardless, I really appreciate what you do for the community. I’ve had a pair of Tiempo Legend Elite VII AG-Pro’s (size 9.5US) for five years now. From lockdown, to the boot molding to my feet, and a solid soleplate - they rock! But they’re showing age.
Would really appreciate your input on the following Qs since I’m thinking about getting these Phantom GX Elite AG-Pros (maybe in DF model)!
1. When playing on AG surfaces, did you find the Phantom AG-Pros provided better lockdown and manoeuvrability than Phantom FGs? (I found this to be the case for Tiempo VII AGs > Tiempo VII FGs)
2. Was the soleplate on the Phantom AG-PROs a little more rigid and sturdy than the Phantom FG soleplate? (same case as above in Q1 brackets for me too)
3. Should I get these in my usual size 9.5US and have fit issues (with Phantom running slightly long), will grip socks or any other methods help fill the boot?

1. Both have the same lockdown (comes from the upper, not the soleplate).
2. No noticeable difference mate, they're the same with slightly different shaped studs, thats all.

So I’m torn between these and the FG I’m signing for a team who’s home games and training is AG. I have my futures and speedflows if I need to go FG so really considering the these cause they look great and honestly never owned a pair of them 😂 but love that they seem like old school tiempo studs!
These AGs are awesome! I love them, and they're long enough to be very good on FG pitches as well. I'd say if you want a boot that can do both, go with the AG GX 🤝

Great vid! I'm coming back to soccer after an ankle surgery and I am searching for AG boots. These Phantom GX Elite AG are my number 1 choice but I want to compare against the Puma FUTURE ULTIMATE MG and other AG boots. Could you make a video review of your top 3-5 AG boots?
By the way, these phantom GX have hurt a lot when getting stepped on right? That's personally a factor for me.
I can do my best mate, although now that I play mostly on FG, it's unlikely I'll be able to get all the AG boots. I'd recommend any of the Asics boots, these AG GX, or a Mizuno model (except the Alphas)

That's great to hear! They're white, so they'll probably stay pretty dirty unless you were to put them through the laundry which I DON'T recommend 😂 I would just stick to water and a sponge and do your best... none of my white boots ever stay white for a long time

The AG is a great option for both! Honestly the FG is too but if you wanted to be totally safe I’d go for the AG 🤝
The length of the 'grass' blades on the particular AG pitch you're playing on is important, and sadly, that can vary severely. In the US, AG pitches are commonly cheap or neglected, resulting in mashed down, hard turf with little depth. I find that Nike AG boots use studs that are too long for these low quality AG pitches. Adidas AG soleplates are also a bit too long for these fields. New Balance is now offering an AG plate on their latest Furons, but those studs are about the length of Adidas'. The Puma FG/AG plate studs are definitely too long.
But speaking of Puma, they kinda save the day with their MG sole-plates, which are oddly available on their first tier boots (odd, because they also have that FG/AG plate). The Puma MG plates are great for bad AG, because there's lots of studs and they're _short._ About half the length of other AG plate studs. No other brand is offering a soleplate with studs that short on first tier boots.

I totally agree. Most of the ag fields open to public aren't that great and most people think it's safe to wear any ag boots on those.. I suggest tf..
The previous Phantom GT models AG-Pro tooling has shorter hollow studs. It’s my go to or the even older AG-R tooling from Nike. 👍
Puma’s MG plate really is nice. The only thing I don’t like is that is generic, so you don’t get the same fit as in the FG version of the same boot.

Hey Noah, question for you! Being that you play heavily on AG pitches, have you experienced any fraying of the Gripknit within your few months of use? That's my ONLY concern with the GX's. Otherwise, you really do sell the heck out of these boots! ⚽
They're unreal in my opinion! I've only had a TINY bit on the FG pair I've been wearing since November and I've worn them constantly for training and pro trials during this offseason 👊🏼 Nothing to worry about at all
Nice review! Couple questions man. I saw reviews of the fg and the soleplate is super super flexible, even through the midfoot. Looks as though with this ag version it’s a bit stiffer at least through the midfoot, is that correct?

You could play with the FG plate for sure, but if you're just getting back into football, I'd recommend an AG plate or an FG plate with mostly conical studs 👍🏼

The AG version is the same as the connical studs on the FG version as far as I can tell
Hey Noah how does the flexibility and responsiveness of the sole plate compare to the former Hypervenom phantom 3? I never worse the phantom 3 but have had a broken in pair in-hand and that sole plate felt very flexible and bendy as well. Definitely fidnt feel that responsive to me then but wondering if you’d say it was more or less the same thing as the GX
They are less "responsive" out of the box than the HV3, but I doubt you'll be able to feel a difference in responsiveness. They're a different shape, so that's what most people will notice - the HV3 is a bit more curved straight away whereas the GX has a very flat and low profile. Both are good in my opinion, it's just up to what you prefer
crazy that these run true to size, i went in and tried on a pair and i felt the need to go a half size up, i hope i dont run into problems playing in them because now im kind of concerned I made a mistake doing so lol

I bought the fg one for playing om artificial grass . And it s a big diference between the traction of superfly 8 Ag and the phantom gx . I fell that it s better on Ag pitches even though it s a Little risk of injury

the look as in the color? The fit is 100% the most important thing and in my opinion SHOULD BE when you're buying a boot. The only time that changes is when it's a boot you plan on keeping in your collection or not for wearing and playing in 🔥

When comparing to the Tiempo, do these have the same type of narrow fitting forefoot?

Similar, but these break in better over time for me compared to the Tiempo! No stud pressure 🤝

My biggest concern when going for AG is the traction when shooting, do you feel like you slip when trying to shoot? I need to be stable on my supporting foot to get a really good strike through, but I’m worried on the AG I’m gonna slip through the follow through
Nope! Not on AG - that's literally what they're build for! It's not like this stud pattern is made up of tiny rubber studs 🤔
These boots are great but I had to go a bit bigger in size because they had a pretty low toe box. And I was wondering if you can confirm this.
I bought these in 11.5, same size as my GT2s and I found they are wider and longer than the GT2. Ordering a second pair of size 11s to hopefully get a more lockdown fit.

Should i go for an AG playing on artifical grass or should i go for a more aggresive (maybe more risky) FG pattern. Ive noticed through the years that the AG studs have a tendancy to sharpen down almost til they go away and get slippery. The FG pattern i felt more reliable and less slippery. Which one should i go for?
Both are great mate - as I said in the review, this soleplate is plenty aggressive enough for most people 👍🏼 I'd even consider wearing these on FG pitches as well

I don't clean my boots very often mate, unless they're covered in mud. I just use water and a towel.

Should I go a half size up? The reason why I say this because my foot is growing and I am a normal size 7 but I feel like my foot is growing big and my feet is decently wide.
Maybe try 1/2 size up if you're really worried, otherwise I would recommend buying a lower tier model in your size from one of the brands until your feet stop growing! THEN invest the $ in the expensive boots
I am in need of a new speed boot, as I am looking to replace my Superfly 7's, tried both Superfly 8 and 9, and for some reason have heel slippage even with grip socks on and half a size smaller boots. Love the sock like feel on the 7's. Any recommendations? Do the Puma's feel more plasticky?
The ultras are a good boot, but the most sock-like speedboot on the market is the NB Furon v7 without a doubt 🤝

Hello Noah I got these in my usual 8.5us. The toe box is perfect but there is too much material in the midfoot. (Too wide). Would you recommend going down half a size? Know anyone has done so successfully?
Not sure mate, I wouldn't go 1/2 size down if your toes are right up against the end of the boot. You want to base sizing off of the length, and THEN find a boot you fit in width-wise. If these are too wide for you, I'd recommend trying the AirZoom vapors or Mizuno Alpha

I wouldn’t wear them on SG pitches (wet, muddy, soft NATURAL grass), but on any conditions in AG or FG natural pitches you’ll be just fine

Hi mate! I don't think there's a right or wrong answer with this one - I think it depends on what you like best! For me, it's going to depend a lot on what type of traction I'm looking for and how aggressive I want it to be. Some AG plates (like the one in this GX video) are really nice and aggressive despite having conical studs. For other AG plates, they really lack the bite that I look for in boots, which is why I wear the FG models the majority of the time. If you're looking to be really safe, go with the AG plate. If you want the absolute most aggressive performance, you'll probably want to go with the FG 🤝

@@NoahCavanaugh Yh Well I've had gx about 2 weeks now. I like the material in terms of free feeling but whilst it is slightly sticky it does nothing for me in terms of control or performance. I've tested in wet weather conditions as well as dry. In my opinion the gripknit is overhyped. But hey its my opinion!

@@NoahCavanaugh well yes but compare it with their AG soleplates from a few years ago, they used to put way more studs on it, they also had like a sandpaper type of reinforcement in the toe area
@@cacuevas For the leather boots, yeah! That sandpaper stuff was a nice touch, and I think any AG boot could use it. I find this stud pattern to be way more functional as well for those of us who switch back and forth from the FG to the AG model of the same boot. Helps with underfoot feel consistency 🤝

@@NoahCavanaugh I know you don't play with turf, but the pro turf gx are really comfortable. No gripknit and at first feels slick, but after wearing them in, the darker blue lines add texture to the upper. Super comfortable as well. Just passing that a long!
Are these also bigger than usual, because I had problems with the Phantom GT's being too big and I had to go a size smaller than usual. Just interested if these have the same problems ?
They fit me true to size for sure, whereas the GT's were slightly larger for me as well!
i play mostly on AG pitches, but occasionally FG. if i could only get one pair, would you recommend getting these or the FG pair?
If you could only get one, go for the AG! I wear mine on FG pitches all the time
