I think it's safe to say that the new Nike Phantom GX is a hit! It's the most interest there's been in a Phantom series football boot since the OG Hypervenom Phantom from 2013! We know the top-end Elite model is great, but what about the cheaper options in the line? Are they just as good?
In today's video we take a closer look at the Nike Phantom GX Pro low, the first takedown model in the new GX line, retailing for $150, a full $100 less than the Elite model above it. At first glance, they look pretty similar, and that's because the construction is more or less the same. However, the materials used are quite a bit different, the flagship GripKnit feature of the Phantom GX Elite, unfortunately did not make its way onto the cheaper options. To make a long story short, the GX Pro has no grip at all!
We discuss the good, the bad and whether or not the GX Pro is worth the $150 asking price over other options available for around the same price. Did Nike change too much from the Elite with the GX Pro?

It’s been like this for years whether it’s been Nike Pro or Adidas .2
Wdym? The last mercurial and superfly takedowns have all been $140-$160 which is a similar price range for the .2s on the adidas line
Btw, I’m not saying this boot is worth that extravagant amount of money, I’m just saying the facts

Thanks Josh, I was ready to press the buy now button on the Nike website but decided to keep hold of my money and put it towards something else!
I tried a pair of the Pros at a local store and they definitely fit more snug than my normal size in the toe box area, to the point of discomfort. But once going .5 size up, I felt a bit too much room in the the mid foot. If I were to order a pair of Elites, do you think that discomfort I felt in the toe box would be far less noticeable due to the stretchier gripknit? Or is that half size up the direction I should be leaning towards?
You should consider getting another model tho or another shoe that fits your type of leg. Ordering is quite risky its kinda better to buy at shops ecc

What do you think of the Diadora Veloce Sl elite? Or if you haven’t used them, will you try them and make a video?
I wore the turf version of the gx pro this morning and while it's not grippy like the vapor turf upper, it's not slippery slick like a leather boot. After wearing it, I feel there's a little texture where those darkened lines came in. Again, not grippy at all but not slippery. Decent padding and narrow but comfortable.
Second game and it seems to get slightly grippier as you wear it in. Not sure if there's a top layer that has to almost wear down but they're improving. Wonder if that's the same experience for you or others.

@@paulkim2944 if you wear it for 3-5 matches it will feel grippier and better
@@nguyentruonggiang8323 the gx pro turf is more padded and honestly feels tighter than the vapor pro turf. I personally love the hyper screen upper of the vapor and find it a little stickier than the gx, but the padded gx is my preference
@@genkie_fc yes I actually find that there's decent grip on the upper now. I've worn them for about 6 matches and really enjoy them
They're pretty much what I expected the ACADEMY model to be ( - the soleplate&insole). From the PRO I expected atleast some grip, even if it was not from grip knit, or atleast the cut out heel counter if not the grip.
The Academy's upper is flimsier and less pliable than the Pro upper. The Pro upper would pass for a non-takedown upper material on other silos.
Comparing the Phantom GX academy and Phantom GT2 academy, I think I would prefer the GT2 because it has more grip on the upper, which is what I expect a phantom would have, than the GX academy
So, I got the TF outsole of the Phantom GX, which only comes in the non-grippy 'Pro' takedown's upper material.
I actually really like the smooth upper of the Pro takedown. It feels surprisingly close to genuine leather, albeit a very thin leather. The touch on the ball is elegant, and allows you to 'push-slide' with close ball control, unlike all the boots with the grip-elements.
Remember kids, Ronaldinho didn't need grippy synthetics to be a wizard with the ball, and neither do you.

Nike do Elite Phantom GX in AG. Ive got a pair. I wouldnt buy this boot without the gripknit tech. defeats the objective. Pro Tiempos are great in terms of a takedown in AG, i wear them as much as the Elites.

I bought the GT 2 elites for £160 last week. Way more bang for your buck as the GX pros do not offer any performance enhancements

Yh i just got the GT 1 Elites for £95. I dont understand how people can justify £200+ for a pair of football boots that honestly are not worth anywhere near that. I felt like my GT Elites i just got are worth £130 at most. All marketing and money like you said
Phantom GT and GT2 were terribly overrated silos. The upper provides no true grip, yet the 'GT' gimmick comes at the cost of making that upper pretty cheap feeling for an 'Elite' model. It feels like a stiff, cheap synthetic leather with minor texturing that does nothing real for ball control.

Fit in the heel is better and more comfortable with GX than with GT2.
Hate that stitching on the collar, very cheap looking and typical of Adidas. Didn’t expect this from Nike.. this looks like the $80 3rd take down. Companies keep increasing prices but not quality of takedowns. If anything they’re getting worse

depends on how wide feet you got and playstyle. gx more room in the midfoot and vapor less rom in midfoot but more room in the toe box the gx toe box for me is very tight. if you like to cut inside, sharp turns and pingy shots i would get the vapor. for me i got gx pro and vapor elites am stuck dont know what to wear but atm the vapor fit too tight and the gx feels not that responsive and pingy. my feet are 27,7 cm and 10,3 wide feet i use Eu size 44

Noah Cavanaugh did a review on them. Essentially leather boots that are not bad for the first few products a new company puts out, but not the best at their price when you can buy Mizunos, Asics, or Tiempos at around the same price

Buy cleats that are comfortable and get some aftermarket insoles that are suited to your feet
