    Thank you sir, you kept me from tearing it apart searching for problems. After draining the gas she still didn’t want to go but the starting fluid gave her the right motivation.

    Thanks for the video Matt. People are sooo negative these days. Everyone seems to be a pro, watch 3 seconds of the video and pretend they know everything. I bet a lot of people found value in your vid. Cheers from AB, Canada

      It's good advice. Lack of lubricant will score sleeves and rings. No one is a know it all here other wise they wouldn't be watching.

    As as soon as you see the float bowl is empty, even while your squeezing the primer bulb, that tells you that the needle and seat is stuck shut…

    Wayyyy too much starting fluid, if you must use it to see if motor fires up do one to two sprays in the carb and that’s it, more will only cause problems and not help the situation. Use premix gas to spray in a bottle or stop and try something else: in this case i would have taken the carb out and give it a good clean including the tiny little jets with a small clean wire and then carb cleaner spray or low air pressure to blow, then I would make sure idle adjustment in carb or 1 1/2 turn out from tight position (note: one 180 degree turn is a half turn, so twice of that makes a whole turn) but since your motor was sneezing sounds like it was too far turned inward, if it was smoking a lot and shaking a lot it would have been too far turned outward.

    My 9.8 mercury has spark to both cylinders but will not crank. I have sprayed just a little starter fluid in each cylinder just to see if it would crank but it will not crank at all. Any ideas 💡 on what it could be?

    • @mbrenengen
      @mbrenengen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crank or fire? I assume it spins but does.not fire. Try two new spark plugs.

    Try not to use starting fluid on a two stroke, you get no lubrication. Use a small bottle of premixed fuel

    • @themeanaverage.1692

      That amount of starter fluid is enough to ruin that engine. If you ever need to use it, it should only be once to check to see if the engine is getting fuel. Starter fluid is dry and destroys all engine including cars & trucks.

    • @mbrenengen
      @mbrenengen  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Scristal2007 Hmmm. I had a similar problem with a lawnmower a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had cleaned the carb pretty well. Turns out that one of the very small holes in the bolt holding on the bowl of the carb was clogged. I ran a very small wire through it and it worked like a champ. The other thing might be to make sure that the carb is roughly adjusted properly. Usually you want to screw both the idle adjustment and the air/fuel screws all the way in, then back them out 1.5 turns. I am sure there is a good video on how to do it for your motor. That would be worth investigating.

    Starter fluid has worked but I haven't used it as much as you have here- started taking the carburetor apart and now I have some broken gaskets to replace haha.
