I saw this SNL skit when it originally aired. It was the funniest skit they ever got away with. It went as far as it could without breaking any FCC rules; that was the intent.
I never imagined that watching a "reacting" version would be as funny, but you did so blushingly well.
i was watching that night, too. i had to explain why it was funny to my little sister, who was still in high school.

If you watch this again, listen to the beginning when they see him coming down the road "darting in and out of the cotton"... lol so many jokes, so little time.
Useless Trivia: Minnie Ripperton sang a very famous song "Lovin You" which a lot of people think is a love song about a man but it was actually about her newborn daughter - Maya Rudolph.
There's a small number of us that understand the meaning of "fluffering down the road, darting in and out of the cotton"... lmao fellow gentlemen...!
That's one of the best jokes in the whole skit but it whooshed over everyone's head.

'The Continental' is another SNL skit that was brilliant....
I remember this when it first aired. The "I don't know nothin' about...." is a reference to Gone With the Wind when it was "I don't know nothin' about birthin' babies".

You know that this is funny as hell.
This was written by Tina Fey. She was on a talk show and she said the reason it got passed censors was because when they read the script (Without southern accent) nobody got the joke.
You can try something in a similar vein from SNL with Alec Baldwin and his famous Christmas treats. (Or Betty White and her "Dusty muffin)
So "carpet bagger" was a common term in the South. (Yeah, it's obviously a double entendre here - but not in genuine usage).
It referred to a Northerner who moved down South to set up a shady business where they weren't welcome during Reconstruction - they often had cheap luggage made of stitched together carpets, hence the name.
Metaphorically it refers to a politician running in a district where they have no real connections.
Think: the Monorail ep of The Simpsons. Phil Hartman is a modern day "carpet bagger" in that.
“stitched together carpets” - so that bag in the Colonel’s hand is not historically accurate; an interesting oversight in the middle of so much authenticity.

This Colonel Angus skit was written by Tiny Fey. Yes Tina Fey the creator of 30 Rock and the one that played Liz Lemon on 30 Rock. Tina also has hosted the Golden Globe awards three times with her buddy Amy Poehler. There is a compilation of that on TH-cam of her hosting. I recommend you react to that. Tina also wrote the funny movie Mean Girls.
