I'm very glad you're keeping the one-game-per-episode format for your next system. I'm sure quite a few viewers would appreciate a RndStranger Ko-Fi so we can say thank you for your work and high-quality content.
I'll jump on the praise dogpile here and say this channel has become one the absolute highlights of TH-cam for me. I never miss a video. You're a mighty impressive individual, RndStranger.
Honestly the only two things I would want from the series is a look at the multiplayer stuff and more time allowed for playing longer games. I don't mind a slower schedule but I understand that often means years of time added to finish a library. Personally I think 3do would be a great future series, it has such a strange and wonderful library.
Goodbye to the Disk System. Thank you for this great series, always keeping a regular schedule, and actually teaching me about a Nintendo system in my blindspot. While I'm quite familiar with the Famicom and NES, the Disk System had so much on it that I knew nothing about.
First stumbled upon this channel trying to figure out what the heck DAIVA was when Nintendo added it to their online service, and I've never gotten addicted to a video series quicker. It took a long time to catch up but it was well worth it. Can't wait to see what's in store for the new year.
I discovered your channel around January of 2024 (yes it was the spectral tower video) and then fell in love with your archival style. This is totally the sort of thing I adore and you do it really well. It's helped me find a ton of hidden gems (who would have known the NES Jetsons game was any good). I only comment occasionally when I have something to say but I've watched every video by now. Congrats on another finished project and here's to the next one!
Thank you so much for what you put out there. I usually always watch after work with a cup of coffee before my evening run, and amazing to think that after all these years watching you've managed to cover the Famicom end to end. Happy New Year to you too.
Ooooh, first I thought you were suddenly announcing that you'd tackle the Saturn games officially released in Japan 🪐 Congratulations on completing the Year of FDS project (and that great train video). My December 31st bet based on your hints is the 〜900 games of the Mega Drive in Japan as your next project. Thanks for answering our questions! Happy new year everyone!
Thank you so much for your work in cataloguing the library of the Famicom. The sheer effort and dedication that this has taken is impressive. I've been watching you (somewhat irregularly) for about a year now, and I find your videos to be one of the best works of gaming history. What you lack in detail is more than made up for by the massive scale of your endeavor. This whole thing reminds me somewhat of the works of historians like Durant, whose writing, while certainly not the best source for anyone wanting heavy detail on any one subject, is perfect for identifying something worthy of a deeper look. I've noticed several games that interest me, and all the enjoyment from them is owed to you for creating such a comprehensive listing in English. Thank you again, and good luck on your next project. I have no doubt that it will be another quality work.
Thanks for taking such a massive undertaking. Every other day for 2024 I looked forward to watching these. I look forward to doing the same with your next project!
For what it is worth, I hope more watches turn into more subs. I'm writing this as you just bring that up early in the video. I want to say, and it's a microscopic part, but in the web forum, private interaction, and light scratches of social media I tolerate I do spread your name, your format, the utility of it, and the value of the content for anyone who wanted to dig into that 8bit beast you finally in two long parts put to bed. It's a true resource as you pointed out, a very very true resource no one else will dare or care to touch so well yet in a solidly well thought out design. The 10min tops format is wise, for your sanity, for people with short attention spans on the back end too. Your grounding in using real hardware, real copies (as much as possible), and not wanting to start coin beg on this turning it into a cash grab for clicks is quite admirable. Thank you though for all the Q&A in here with this video. And thanks for the train of thought on the various systems you popped in here and your why on the pro and con of bothering with it, it's quite logical. Still as you talk I'm writing this, but I want my comment to stay clean and not influenced, so maybe I guessed it or not, but personally sticking to the weeds, I'd prefer to see the PC Engine since it's so poorly not scratched, though the GB and SFC make a lot of sense I could see how their exposure may be a bit too obvious.
Your comment about the strength of the format being able to look up any game rings true. When I'm browsing online shopping sites & hit a Famicom game that rings a bell but I can't quite remember what it was, Famidaily is the first thing I check.
My current predictions or suggestions for new console series. - the NEC PC-FX - the Neo Geo CD - the FM Towns Marty (McFly) - games exclusive to the PlayStation 5
Happy new year to you, thank you for the years of quality retrospectives ❤ I for one am highly anticipating next year's 1,603 part retrospective on the Sugoroku Station 😉
0:45 >the most cursed version of Symphony of The Night. That would have been the PSP version, unlockable in Dracula X Chronicles. It runs at 30 fps and playable Maria was ruined.
Congratulations for reviewing and cataloging every Famicom and FDS game. I'm glad you reviewed all the identical FDS ports. I assume it wasn't fun reviewing those games again. Still, if anyone else had reviewed every FDS game, they would have shortcutted it by either skipping the ports, having them compile to the same video, or just reuploading the cartage review. As for the next system, I remember you said that you wouldn't review a Mahjong game for the next year, so whatever the system is it does not have a Mahjong game.
And so we arrive at crossroads once again. I just cannot thank you enough for the work you've done on these projects over the past several years, wrapping the Famicom documentation up with the Disk System is the best way to end things for the beloved Japanese console. It's good to hear that you're sticking to an upload schedule you're comfortable with and I hope you took many breaks during The Year of FDS. My overall thoughts on the Disk System are a bit mixed since I feel we really did not miss out much to the games that were stuck on disk. Nintendo of America apparently had plans at one point to distribute the add-on in the States for the NES but that never came to be and honestly that was the right call to make. The novelty of Nintendo floppy disks vanish once you have to endure the load times and these days hardware that isn't reliable due to the original drives needing replacement belts to continue reading disks (although thankfully we have things like the FDS Key). My biggest disappointment by far is that I don't think that many Disk System games actually used the extra sound channel, and the ones that did use it didn't really enhance the sound but felt like it was used out of obligation rather than being intentional. That said, what we did get out of it was still good and a step-up from standard cartridges. Thank you for answering my question btw! That is one heck of a rabbit hole you went down and I'm glad you were able to share the details about it now even if it didn't make the cut initially. Regardless of your future plans I will be sticking around. I'm still going to explore the world of the Famicom as well as managing FamiWiki but I'm still fascinated by video games that usually don't get the spotlight regardless of what hardware particular software is running on. I'll see you on the other side of the road tomorrow.
I'd say why isn't a series about the SG-1000 more probable beforehand? There was already a series done by this mad lad about the Epoch SCV console that was one of the competitors against the FamiCom, but Sega's one had the additional priviledge of being released on the same day as Ninty's FC. So my bet would be on either that one or the Casio PV-1000 that's even more obscure in the west.
Bro, you singlehanded talked me right into collecting famicom and famicom disk system. You are amazing and should have MUCH more subscribers. Faffrd and the Court of Apes are behind you!
Gotta say, this channel has been a real blessing for me this year. I caught a very nasty case of pneumonia this summer and was really sick at home for a month. Watching most of Famidaily and Year of the FDS really helped me through that. Thanks for the great content! Happy new year and excited to see your next project!
Mission Accomplished for covering the entirety of Disk System games commercially released! Say, I had one question in mind, are you going to cover the Japanese Mega Drive library in the future? (Either on cartridge-only or with the Mega CD add-on included with it's games?) I had a feeling not many people had talked much about one of the smaller games that were Japanese-exclusives at least outside of Japan I guess... Anyway Happy New Year.
Very happy to have seen this whole project unfold from start to finish instead of joining in too late like Famidaily. Can’t wait to see what’s next! Edit: Also, thank you for answering my question and I'm very sorry about my mess of a username. I got lazy and didn't change it to Great Antwan. (If I ever do, the 64DD question in this video is mine.)
Thank yo for this year. Its been really really helpful for me as a person to have you start every one of my days. Thank you so very much in a lot of ways and happy new year.
Congratulations on playing every single licensed Famicom game! That’s quite an accomplishment. As for future projects…as much as I’d love to see a PC Engine retrospective, the text heavy RPGs and adventure games are likely to be a barrier. As for what I think is up next…the WonderSwan.
Congrats on another great project done! Gonna celebrate that with Konami FDS BGMs from Ai Senshi Nicol, Risa no Yousei Densetsu, Esper Dream and, of course, Noroi no Fuuin! :)
Just yesterday I was pouring through listings of FDS games, putting together the beginnings of a collection. Being able to watch a concise 5-10 minute video summary of every game I didn't recognize was incredibly valuable. Thank you so much! The only game I couldn't find was Emi-chan no Moero Yakyuuken. I quickly figured out why, lol.
I rooted for Super Famicom in the beginning, but now that you've presented all these facts I think the PC Engine Japan library could be the next series. That is, I hope it is 😊
7:40 the wii u would actually be achievable if you stuck to physical releases. Only 208 releases. It also has an interesting library for documentation purposes. Some games were saved from eternal obscurity once the switch came along, while the rest were either left behind or saved in a monkey paw kind of way
Congrats!!! I discovered your channel with the “100 Hardest Famicom Games?” video and have been a devout follower ever since! Looking forward to your next project! :)
Huge congrats, bud. I’ve loved your work, and it’s been a really nice, consistent thing I looked forward to during a tough year. I’m excited to see what you’ve got up your sleeve for 2025 and beyond!
Congrats on finishing an excellent series! If you feel like doing videos on the best Famicom and FDS games, you'll be the first person to do so with the audience's certainty that you've actually played every game. That's a lot of credibility that the other channels don't have.
Ojala sea una consola poco conocida La verdad no me importa Me encanta este canal es lo que TH-cam siempre tuvo que ser Un canal por pasión y no por $$$ Saludos desde Uruguay
The IMB-PC project sounds interesting, but I always wonder how much it would include! Some reviewers stick purely to the retail releases, but most of what I played as a kid in the early 1990s was shareware episodes from the Software-of-the-Month Club, you know, the Apogee model and such. My parents were only interested in buying PC games that could be spun as "educational"--which got easier to find in the point-and-click CD-ROM era, of course. And it sounds like just about any of the PlayStation (1)'s competitors would be good choices to cover, though there are debatable things like the CD-i that was often treated more like DVDs with just a little more interactivity.
I got jumpscared by you actually pronunciating my name correctly lol. Also I predict the new series will either be the N64's Japanese library or the Wonderswans.
re: Saturn SOTN -- I definitely recommend the fan-made upgrade version that supports the 4M ram expansion... definitely helps with a lot of that port's issues!! as for the FDS wrap-up, yeah it was quite the journey. going in I knew some of the basics, like the FDS versions of the cart stuff that had internal saving instead of passwords like kid icarus, metroid, dracula 2. and the whole doki doki panic/smb2j thing. but I definitely learned a lot througout the series even discovering some games I thought about looking up, like ai senshi nicol actually sounds interesting! looking forwrd to whatever's next.
@@littlemisskitten2760 oh for sure! I bought a reproduction copy of the patched version from somewhere and played it on my Japanese saturn with the pseudo-saturn kai cart... it definitely helps a lot! may have to do another playthrough in the new year.
Well done, one more system covered. FDS birthed many classic series, but it also died very quickly all things considered. Looking forward to the next project... tomorrow, hahah. Personally, I like the idea of doing PCE, because here in Europe it was an extremely rare system, unless you were a part of the import scene, where it gained a bit of a cult following. Master System and Mega Drive were 'the' consoles in that era in most countries in Europe, so that would be my pick, but whatever you come up with will be welcome.
Man the year really flew by it seems. Really liked watching this series, never really played too much of the library compared to the Famicom so it's nice to be educated on it. Really looking forward to what's next starting in 2025.
Whatever system or library you have chosen, I hope there are just enough mahjong games to satisfy the crowd, and not so many that you rethink your life choices
Been a fun and consistent year of FDS and yeah, been interesting to see how it got a load of developers like former PC devs Square into console development, even if you could detect the shudder when you had to talk about proper DOGS of games.
Congrats on reaching this milestone, I really enjoyed both series, thank you for your work :) As for teh future I would totaly love you tackling the C64 eventually, but as a huge fan of my childhood main system, I think a word of warning would be appropriate: If you are already scared of "euro-jank" on the Amiga, then brace yourself^^
Congrats on a completed project! I found your channel during the early parts of the FDS run but I believe I got pulled in by some of the supplemental stuff which got me to watch every upload, I really loved your breakdown of the worst RPG ever made or the lowest rated Famitsu scores. If the immense PS1 library is something you want to see covered by another channel, I would highly recommend the work done by SeanSeanson. Far from the near daily schedule, but with much more thorough looks at each game, with separate series for Japan exclusives and general obscurities, alongside huge compilation videos for specific publishers (he's done Namco, Square, Psygnosis, and Capcom) and one-offs he decides to cover.
Ditto, Sean's channel is great! Personally, I feel like this is a much better way to approach PS1's (and PS2's) library. If you decide to do everything, you will drown in the visual novels, pachinko and other stuff of this sort. It's best to just do it by genre, by theme or by developer instead of doing 'everything' chronologically.
Predicting da mega drive, it was going up against the nes in the US after all. Also great series! Someday I'll probably make a little DVD set of your famidaily series whenever I decide not to be a lazy idiot!
Congrats on finishing the Year! Of FDS! I kind of want to see a Famidaily equivalent of the PC Engine since most of that library's history is hard to find in English, but that has a lot of games that would be hard even with a bidaily schedule. Anyway, looking forward to the next project!

@littlemisskitten2760 109 WonderSwan games, and 97 Color games. There were a few interesting accessories, my favorite is the adapter for the original LCD Digimon V-Pets.
@@EriChanTheRetroGamerNerd I love the WonderSwan but never realized it runs at a weird framerate. I'm bad at noticing framerates but that's interesting to learn. I've only ever owned the Crystal, so I don't know if the original WonderSwan or Color would be easier or harder to get footage of. Either way, filming gameplay seems like it'd be tricky.
Congrats! I'm shocked that you're probably not going with SG-1000/Mark III. It seems like such an obvious choice: It released on the same day as the Famicom, has a sort of large but manageable library, and lots of variety. I don't know why most of the games being by Sega is such a sour spot. But I guess you're tired of 8-bit games at this point :/ Still looking forward to whatever you do in the future!
I think you could make the IBM PC or PSX series work if you limit it to a one or two handpicked game per release month. That seems like the best compromise for chronicling the history of the platform and what it was like at that point. Though on the other hand that means you're going to miss out on covering obscure undocumented deep cuts.
There is also the FM Towns Marty the oddball CD32 like system of Japan and the regular FM Towns it is based on. A number of the games from the IBM PC find their way on the FM Towns and its library is no where as large as the PC-98
What kinds of resources are there's for learning about these old games? I want to look for Japan exclusive PS1 and SNES games and I'm currently learning Japanese (which has no direct relation to my interest in gaming).
Unfortunately, resources tend to be scattered. I have catalogs of SFC and PS1 games published in Japan, as well as similar books for other platforms. Those are good for locking me onto what's out there, but the sheer volume tends to mean that people just lock onto a few scattershot titles. A systematic review of the platforms is an enormous task and I'm not aware of anyone outside of Japan who has made any significant headway on it.
FYI Basement Brothers is going through the Neo Geo library along with the CD addon. They also do PC-88 and PC-98. Not discouraging you from making videos on those libraries but just letting you know those are out there.
They do a great job. When I was thinking about other projects I was asking if I felt I had anything to add beyond any other existing cataloging projects. I didn't want to reject an idea just because someone else was doing it, but I also didn't want to just say the same things as someone else.
Excited for the impending Mahjong daily series

Congratulations on finishing another project! Looking forward to the next one and happy new year :D
excited to start watching your series on every PS5 exclusive game tomorrow :^)
Thank you for all your work ❤
My guess is N64 for tomorrow.
Ojala sea una consola poco conocida
La verdad no me importa
Me encanta este canal es lo que TH-cam siempre tuvo que ser
Un canal por pasión y no por $$$

I'm not crying, that's just dust in my eye
congratualtions on another series!
re: Saturn SOTN -- I definitely recommend the fan-made upgrade version that supports the 4M ram expansion... definitely helps with a lot of that port's issues!! as for the FDS wrap-up, yeah it was quite the journey. going in I knew some of the basics, like the FDS versions of the cart stuff that had internal saving instead of passwords like kid icarus, metroid, dracula 2. and the whole doki doki panic/smb2j thing. but I definitely learned a lot througout the series even discovering some games I thought about looking up, like ai senshi nicol actually sounds interesting! looking forwrd to whatever's next.
@@darktetsuya that’s literally what I played on the Saroo all day yesterday. The upgrades made with the ultimate patch really help.
The Nichi Butsu MyVision was the first console dedicated to mahjong! Perfect for a project!
Been a fun and consistent year of FDS and yeah, been interesting to see how it got a load of developers like former PC devs Square into console development, even if you could detect the shudder when you had to talk about proper DOGS of games.
Congrats on reaching this milestone, I really enjoyed both series, thank you for your work :)
As for teh future I would totaly love you tackling the C64 eventually, but as a huge fan of my childhood main system, I think a word of warning would be appropriate: If you are already scared of "euro-jank" on the Amiga, then brace yourself^^
One day some madman will cover j2me library
All those lost games?
thx man, very much
Famicom, for Auld Lang Syne.
Mega Drive? And then Sega CD and 32X?
I gonna watch all the Year of FDS series now
Predicting da mega drive, it was going up against the nes in the US after all.
Im glad you liked Bio miracle bokutte upa, I'm still surprised just how much I really dig that game. Its so damn solid.
Prediction: the WonderSwan is the next project.
I don’t think Wonderswan had a bunch of peripherals or even seventy games.
@@littlemisskitten2760109 WonderSwan games, and 97 Color games.
There were a few interesting accessories, my favorite is the adapter for the original LCD Digimon V-Pets.

This seems the most likely except it's hella hard to capture from and runs at 75FPS
It's mainly that one viewpoint dominates 95% of the system's library. Variety is good and Sega struggled with that for a long time.
Can't wait to see what the next system might be
I bet top dollar that the next system is the Nintento 64
Hell yea
Looks like I’m the only one to predict Game Boy. The end of the NES video hinted this super strongly.
My bet for the next series is... N64
I wouldn't mind seeing you do game boy since Jeremy Parish got halfway through and started over
Do every Amiga game
Yes. End to floppies since I enjoyed that video on train games and would like more like it.
I am placing a bet on "Mega Drive".
I hope it's followed up by a Giga Drive!
I am excited to be disappointed in your choice tomorrow. Don't disappoint to disappoint me.
I think you could make the IBM PC or PSX series work if you limit it to a one or two handpicked game per release month. That seems like the best compromise for chronicling the history of the platform and what it was like at that point. Though on the other hand that means you're going to miss out on covering obscure undocumented deep cuts.
Where is the new video the year has changed and I NEEED IT
There is also the FM Towns Marty the oddball CD32 like system of Japan and the regular FM Towns it is based on. A number of the games from the IBM PC find their way on the FM Towns and its library is no where as large as the PC-98
You never mentioned the Sharp X68000 in that list.
👀
@RndStranger any Japanese resources online?
Pretty sure there was footage of the original Muddle on Tetris Forever?
Something that was still in development when I asked what happened to Muddle. 😁
How is the pc engine confusing?
01:06 I sincerely doubt that statement. : D
