To those who have been part of this journey, thank you so much! My goal was to document everything I saw in Saudi to the best of my ability, to show you what it was like on the ground with limited plans and organization. To show you natural interactions with locals and how I was treated by them. To present a truth that I have not found presented to me living in the West. I definitely misunderstood some things and got some right, but I can look back now on how little I knew about Saudi and now realize how much more I need to learn about this very complex and beautiful culture.
It's now almost unbelievable that I was a bit nervous flying in from Istanbul to Riyadh, wondering if I'd be received with suspicion and hostility. But instead, I've left with new friends and an understanding of true hospitality, a gift that only a few countries in the world have at this level.
Thank you so much for those who supported me along the way and made this 11-part video series special th-cam.com/play/PLEyPgwIPkHo5N7q3HMQYIoVTgl8JY-I8X.html. And thank you Saudis who guided me through your country with open arms and heart. It was an eye-opening adventure that I'll never forget :) I look forward to returning to the Kingdom in the future En Shala! I have to say I'm a bit sad that this series is over but the story will continue, just in other countries. And I'd love for you to continue on this journey with me.
THANK YOU again for everything... this Saudi series meant a lot to me and you made it happen!
    Peter
list=PLEyPgwIPkHo5N7q3HMQYIoVTgl8JY-I8X.

It's been my dream of what you have shared about life's in Saudi. My first trip was 3 years ago while I did my umrah a small haj. But that didnt reflects any of Saudis people daily life. I hope you won't stop and to continue on the next journey. I may not afford to but your vlog has saved me a lot of money and energy. Watching you seems I was already been in Saudi.

I worked in Saudi Arabia for 7 years and I found the Saudi guys very helpful and friendly they are welcoming and nice out of all the guys I met,
I was once working on a wellsite in the desert and the Aramco foreman offered me out for tea in the evening in the town of Hotat and what a lovely evening I had just talking to the guy having our tea and Arabic cakes, I will always remember this moment in my time there.

Did you tell them It's a backward country? 😁

    • @MikeGill87
      @MikeGill87 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@moserbear221 Well, I live in Europe, so, to me , every country (incl. US) outside Europe is a backward country... :-) No, just kidding. What I was trying to say, and what Peter tried to say, is that Saudi Arabia is not what one expects. And not even back in 2016 before the current reforms. Nearly nobody in Riyadh prayed during the prayer times, some women didn't cover their heads, only indoors back then though, people were extremely friendly and one felt very safe there (it's a police state, so, threat of harsh punishment works - something like pre-89' Czechoslovakia...). My biggest problem in Saudi Arabia was that nearly no taxi drivers knew where they're going and you have to navigate them, even if it's your first day in the city. :-) So, MBS might be a ruthless killer, but the changes he's bringing ar wanted, people like them and they're necessary. Aramco was for years the only source of money for the country. Now, price of oil is volatile and he has to look for different sources of income, such as tourism, support independent businesses and allow women to contribute more. So yes, it's still a conservative mid-eatern country, but the leaps they're making these years are amazing.

Only a few minutes into the video but wanted to pop in and comment on your opening. In February, 2023, I solo traveled to Mexico (my destination was a retreat - so I was not just wandering alone) but the reactions from people blew my mind (once again false media narratives.) Telling me that I should not go alone and as a woman I could be kidnapped, trafficked, murdered, shot by the cartels, etc. There was not a moment that I did not feel 100 percent safe - in fact, I ended my trip in Southern California (born and raised) and spent an additional 4 days there before returning home. Only back in the US did I feel in danger. The people in Mexico were kind, welcoming and it was a wonderful experience. I realize that it is not Saudia Arabia but still the narratives people have been fed and really have zero idea what they are talking about. Excited to learn about travel in Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a very large country, with different cultures, multiple terrain, but it meets in one thing: the Islamic religion, the important thing in the matter is that countries with wise leadership and a correct vision try as much as possible to provide services to all parts of the Kingdom, and likewise established a giant network of Roads and airports in every region. Citizens in the southern part enjoy the same services in Riyadh, a letter to Brother Peter. I visited only four regions and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has 13 regions. Thank you

I saw the entire series and was a little disappointed that you did not explore Medina. Wish you had explored religious and architectural sites such as mosques and palaces etc. Would have been also very informative to have interviewed elders and religious leaders to give us a more complete picture. Also given us a history of the sites and the people who live there. Interesting to find out the history of people who live in the amazing mountain sites: who were they? why they moved there? how it all begun? Finally, how could you have missed one of the most ancient important historical sites of the world in Madain Saleh?

I'm not talking about the people in power, who make movies, new, etc.. I'm talking about young kid that all he cares about is his video games, the one who was brainwashed by the media, to believe in lies.
Obviously, that miseducation. I don't think that everyone outside knows the truth. Some people, since day one, they have been told lies, till they believed that is that's the reality.

I am currently in Riyadh, almost a month now, and I am European. IMHO Peter's vlog series about Saudi Arabia are the most sincere, unbiased and objective presentations of this country so far. I am here because I've opened a daughter company just 2 months ago - so far we've recruited 6 young Saudi employees - smart, open minded, educated in the West, perfect English, all of them had traveled to many countries and had seen all kinds of cultures. Hard working, dedicated and eager to learn new things.
Sometimes I wonder how the Western media is so biased, single-sided and focused on the bad things...probably, because scandals bring clicks, views and sell better. Another thing most Westerners do not understand is that Saudi Arabia is changing and opening so drastically fast in the last 2 years, that any faster pace would break the fabric of the society.
