I use trimec every year near the end of June. we have about 6 weeds in the grass after i'm done. it works great except for the handful that i miss.

I think that is fantastic way to spray - real time measurement. I use a spray tank behind my 1025R and I spray my rock driveway and weeds. I think a color other than green (good for dirt application) maybe Brown or Orange that the dye fades off as the time progresses. Allowing passing along but not coloring forever.

One of my cousins wanted me to spray his dad's grass with MSMA one year so he bought the chemical and he picked up some blue dye. I was just like you. The only place you could see it was driveway and they whole sprayer was blue. Lawn care company's use it a lot but they must use a gallon per tank to get results that they get.

What’s interesting is if the dye got all over the machine it really teaches us how much chemical gets all over the machine even though it can’t be seen without the dye. Great reminder to wash rigs after each spraying!!

When I spray I put a little extra dye than what the container recommends I usually use 2 bottles for that size of sprayer to make it a little more visible when spraying

I have an 825i gator and the earlier version of this sprayer. I wish I had rate control on mine but it still works great. At 4mph and 40 psi I put on 20 gal per acre. I use turf mark blue die from do your own and its $99 for a 2.5 gal jug. Easy to see in the yard. However I have done some spraying in the field when it is too wet for the tractor and it I hard to see there. Overall it's a great sprayer

My neighbor uses DEF fluid since it is supposedly 32% nitrogen and can be purchased quite cheap when on sale. I haven't convinced myself this works and can't find collaborating information online. would be great if you look into it. I've found Menards often has sales on the Forever Green brand fertilizer for the best price/acre and price/lb of nitrogen for fertilizer, but still not as cheap as DEF fluid at $4/Gallon. For herbicide I've been using 3D. It is identical to Trimec and slightly less expensive (

Great video as always Tim. I am in the same boat trying to figure out what to put on my 10 acre yard. I have a new pto 3pt 60 gal John Deere boom sprayer, and I too am trying to figure out how its going to work how much to use how fast to go etc.
I can set the cruise on my 3039R to maintain a speed relatively consistently.
I have no idea on the pressures to set it at or distance to set boom from the ground with the 3pt.
If I use too much is that a real possibility of killing the grass with 2-4-D.
I have about the same chemicals bought as you chose right down to a green dye to help figure where I had been.
Looking forward to hearing how yours turns out.
Keep up the great work !!!

Always good to see a new way of performing a task. I would agree with you and others that this is more for the golf course or the "estate". When I had more than an acre of lawn I didn't care if it was grass or weeds - as long as it wasn't brown. Both of you I would think have more to do than worry about dandelions and the grass needs cut AGAIN. Most of the "homestead" videos are into non/chemical ways of weed control. Everyone makes his own choice. (Some of us remember Agent Orange and associated chemical defoliants). I actually do appreciate seeing all the equipment. It is good the family is well. I am sure your daughter can give you insight into farming around the world. I have a brother in law working for Land O Lakes and travels through Africa teaching. Take care.

Look into dry spray grade AMS, as well as a good surfactant. The dry AMS is 17 lbs per 100 gallons of water. .Most surfactants are 1 quarter per 100 gallons of water. Both are cheap, and available at Rural King. Both will make the chemicals perform much better. Otherwise you might get limited success.

Hey Tim, dunno bout Indiana but here in Texas others can use your applicators license if they are working under your instruction. You do not even have to be present. I have neighbors, family and friends use mine. They just have to notify me so I can keep all the data in my log. Perhaps you could use Tom's Randall's or your Dad's the same way. Also license is not required if you have a degree in crop sciences or horticulture so you might work off Katriel's. Just a suggestion trying to be helpful. I am fortunate to be Grandfathered in in Texas but I usually attend the continuing education to keep on top of changes even though I am not required.

Between now and next year let us know how many trees and shrubs, etc you killed with that 2-4d, ha ha. Hope it works for ya!

I hope for the sake of humanity that you don't actually think 2-4d will kill trees and shrubs. Hell it's very difficult to kill large woody plants with products such as Tordon specifically designed to do so.

I mentioned that this was a technical demonstration only. Wouldn’t expect a homeowner to be able to justify such a system.

Had a brain 🧠 fart why not use marker flags between the widths of rows so you know what got sprayed and what didn’t?

You really shouldn’t spray dandelions there very beneficial to the pollinators and they don’t look that bad
