There is also a boss rush mode, unfortunately the earlier bosses don't have increased stats, so they die in a few seconds. • 1000 Knives is a pretty terrible ability to use while time is frozen, because you can only throw a limited number of knives while time is frozen, so that ability loses most of its damage. This mechanic is actually a small nod to the lore, where Sakuya (the player character) doesn't have infinite knives, so she has to use her time powers to go around gathering her knives once a fight is over. You can do the same in game, if you miss a shot you can run over and pick up your knives for a mp refund (or generate mp by jumping once you have the double jump ability). • The floating sword skill allows for passive damage but devours mp, and has a bad mana to damage ratio. • Grazing enemies/projectiles (getting close to them without touching) can restore hp, if time is frozen the graze range is increased and it restores mp instead. • The enemies are most either a reference to castlevania enemies, japanese mythology, or from Touhou itself. My favourite is that the "lizardmen" enemies are a reference to Tupai; Remilia's (boss 4) pet Chupacabra. • You can farm enemies to collect gems for stat boosts, you need a lot for any noticeable effects.
spamming 1000 daggers both outside and inside time stop is the easiest way to s rank boss rush lol. you lose nothing using 1000 daggers in time stop because it uses time, not mp, so after your time ends you can still use it in normal time
The holy light sword is one of the main reasons I was able to beat the final bosses, what I would do is during moves like the land mine, drone, and saw attacks I would stop time and let the sword deal with said mines, drones, and saws, as they count as enemies so the sword will attack them, while I threw knives at the actual boss

Welcome to Touhou… and enjoy your stay. It’s extremely easy to fall down the rabbit hole. Take me for an example: the music was enough to make me fall down the hole deep enough to never get out.
I swear when I saw that fairy with a cannon my first thought was, "Bitc**S loves cannons". but I'm sure the reason why this game's story is lacking is because, it Touhou Project, which means, you are supposed to know the story.
No, the story is lacking because it's just lacking. The characters are already existant, but they don't matter here. Meiling just guards, Patchouli is just in a library, Remilia is the vampire, and Flandre is a killing machine. Basically all the story is: they felt bad about Flandre being locked down in a basement for everyone's safety, so they decided to create alternate reality where she could "play" safely by being the final boss. It's that simple
@@cartooncritique6625 honestly, that might be just a translation thing because she fits almost *all* of the criteria for being a witch. She’s got the hat, she uses mushrooms in some of her spells, she lives in a forest that’s known in Gensokyo as “the Forest of Magic,” and she rides a broom (which she doesn’t actually need to fly). So it really might just be a translation thing where the Japanese word probably translates to either magician or witch depending on context perhaps. @@theemeraldenderman3007 You can't really mistranslate magician and witch unless it's a rewrite called "localization". But in tohou, iirc, people with magic abilities is called a magician, hence she's called a magician, despite the witch theme.
I am here to introduce Every Single Character that is shown in here Sakuya Izayoi - Head maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, she has the ability to manipulate time and is quite the jojo reference, she is loyal to a fault to the point she's called the devil's dog, the devil being Remilia. Mecha Luigi - That is ''Nitori''(quotation marks due to the plot twist at the end), or rather, a mech used by Nitori, she is a kappa, and an engineer. She is friendly to humans, but the fighting games show very well she isn't friendly to other youkai. She's also pretty shy, until she isn't. Wack enemies - All enemies that appear here are youkai, including the bosses with the exception of Marisa, youkai being a kind of japanese supernatural being, and like a lot that has to do with Japan, they are weird. Very interesting though. Although, in Touhou every supernatural being, from vampires to werewolves, are youkai. There is speculation even gods can be considered youkai. This is the reason for the apparent inconsistency in enemy style. Hieda no Akyuu - A girl that has the power to remember everything, even her past lives' experiences. Unfortunately, every single one of them is cursed to die at age 30. Hong Meiling - The guard of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She's known for being lazy, but that is fanon stuff. She's actually extremely powerful canonically, having a heavenly god as a rival and having no weaknesses... except for the fact she is mediocre at spellcard duels, which is what the entirety of Gensokyo uses to fight. Oof. She's also Sakuya's friend. Maid on a Broom - An ordinary magician, Marisa Kirisame. she's one of the main characters of the source material, she is known for her sass, general crazyness, borrowing things for an extended period of time(her entire lifetime) and as one of the very few people I can remember in Touhou that became very powerful through effort and effort alone. Patchouli Knowledge - Scarlet Devil Mansion's librarian, but really it'd be fair to call her the library itself(in fact, her title even is "The Unmoving Great Library"). She never removes herself from it unless absolutely necessary, and is a massive nerd. She is immensely magically powerful, being able to control the five chinese elements and also the sun and moon, but due to her lifestyle she is very physically weak and she has gained several illnesses like asthma and vitamin D deficiency, and this can hinder her quite a bit. Remilia Scarlet - Lady of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Her powers are charisma, elegance, authority!.. and also controlling fate itself and several vampiric abilities. She is the one that owns the mansion, self-centered, even wanting to conquer the moon and blot out the sun for reasons such as "I deserve it" and "The sun is generally inconvenient"(she has already has methods of not suffering from the sun, she just didn't want to have to), but she also treats her subordinates surprisingly well, one of the reasons for them being quite loyal to her. Flandre Scarlet: Little Sister of Remilia. She lives in the basement, Remilia thought she was dangerous so she told her to stay there, and Flandre did. She's not locked, she just stays out of view, and actually quite likes it down there. She has the power to destroy anything, and is a bit socially awkward due to the hundreds of years of not socially interacting with anyone. She is also known for ran ran ruu.

I had a moment like that bridge thing where you could see what you had to do but were having trouble doing it. For me it was playing one of the sack boys games and I got to a part where I was under water and there was a short hall way with one saw on the top and one saw on the bottom moving back and forth, I could see that I was suppose to float up to dodge the saw at the bottom when it was coming toward me and then sink down to the bottom when the saw on top was moving toward me, but I just couldn't manage to get my body to do it despite seeing what I needed to do.

A good deal of development time would have been required for both games, so why were they both released the same day? great video as always, but MAN every time I hear the song at 15:15 it reminds me how amazing furi's soundtrack is and makes me want to go play it again. such a good game.
That Remilia lazer is pretty brutal. You can stand centered on Remilia and jump and float down to avoid it.
Reminds me of the secret to dodging in Touhou games. It becomes easier to dodge if you don’t panic and keep your movements tight and not erratic. Generally staying in a set area and barely moving is the best way you can dodge, and watching the video I realized that they emulated that mechanic well
@@zzzmeta4555 Yeah. That's the case for most of them. Plus, you get health back for taking those tighter dodges. It really rewards risk, but only if you don't use the time stop.
Touhou is normally a brutally difficult bullet hell series of shooters. It getting translated into a Metroidvania works well but is only a tiny look into the true horror of Touhou
I love when indeimaus pick a song on what is relevant on what he's doing "my only chance-by the toxic avenger" while he was fighting the final boss 15:22
Thank you. I never managed to look the song up after watching a vid and never posted a comment askin for the song. Now sittin here at work i was determined to get it, sadly i cant have his version of blinding lights on Spotify.
You’re a true hero for this. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this!
This Touhou metroidvania looks sick, might have to pick it up
Just bought a malenia shirt! I am stoked to support you brother!
Heads up dude! There's two other bosses in the game you didn't beat, which actually brings the game to a proper close.
So glad you played this game though!
Ah. Touhou Luna Nights. If you know Touhou, it's a fun story. But even if you never heard about Touhou, the gameplay itself and music will capture your heart and senses.
Who would win?
Ancient Holy Sword
or
1000 kitchen knives
Hell fuckin yeah! I've been waiting for this for forever.
0:31 eh dw about it for this one Indeimaus, it's Touhou. Almost nobody fully gets the story for this series.
Awesome video, this looks like a seriously hardcore game! I love your edits though, these videos are so entertaining to watch. Putting this game on my masochist wishlist, thanks :)
Thanks for restocking Indei. Now I got them all. These shirts are metal af
aw, you didn't play the rest of it. still awesome that you played this very cool touhou game.
14 minutes since the video was posted and the stock is already sold out again... love your videos Indeimaus!
I'm so excited for Shoctober spooky games!
After buying at least 5 different touhou fumos seeing indei upload a playthrough of luna nights is a gift from the divine lol
Damn Maus, Joe zombie was my life back in the days. The 3d animations in it were stunning and the plot was even better :P
love your videos!
You MIGHT want to use the shop more after seeing this.
But also, collecting gems passively powers up your stats, if you didn't notice, so keeping a lot on hand is helpful.
holy shit joe zombie, haven't thought about it in years. First few episodes were kinda normal right? Guy becomes zombie, starts eating people. But then it gets like, holy shit big anime fights and deep lore and the animator just went nuts with it
I had a moment like that bridge thing where you could see what you had to do but were having trouble doing it.
There really aren't enough games with chainsaws
@8:23: Hey, thats the Deadbolt OST! Id love to see a playthrough of that
Thank God. I missed the shirts I'm so happy you prolonged it. Need my Melania shirt frfr lol
Luna Nights is unironically one of my favorite metroidvania's ever, the time stop/time slow mechanic and graze mechanics are so fun it's surreal
Oh man, my favorite game. Glad to know you enjoy it. Really hope you will do hidden boss in this game.
this may be off topic but i was recently trying to find that joe zombie series again thank you
You should play Anno mutationem would love to see your take on it!!
I’m surprised youve never heard of Touhoe before
I know I saw this go through my steam recommendations, but I never really looked into it. I'm thinking this will be my next purchase cause this looks damn good!
Welcome to the Touhou project
A game series mainly run by it's really dedicated, talented and weird fanbase
Originally started as bullethell games, but now include basically every single possible genre you can think of
And now that you're in, theres no way out and trying to understand the world is futile, beacuse it's just too convoluted and/or deep
So just enjoy the professionalism and waifus, beacuse theres a lot of them
* Originally started as an ATARI BREAKOUT GAME, transitioned to a shmup (shoot-em-up, and a bullet hell game), and then had a few fighting games.
@@Builderguy2001 did not know that. Thank you for this information
@@Builderguy2001 Touhou 1 and 2 both released the same day, so it wasn't really a shift in genre as much as it was a decision to go with SoEW's gameplay over HRtP's gameplay.
@@spiceforspice3461 I was actually unaware of this fact. Thank you for informing me. A good deal of development time would have been required for both games, so why were they both released the same day?
You would think the earlier game (HRtP) would be released after its completion and the later game (SoEW) in a similar fashion. Maybe it's possible they were developed as personal projects, which only were properly released once he felt confident enough in his work? (I'm not sure where or how ZUN released them) Either way, I'm sure that the development of the two fundamentally shaped the direction and style of Touhou.
Love the Furi music as always, but have you tried the dlc character for Furi yet Inde? Also, loving the merch!
13:49 the split second Mana Khemia student shop theme caught me off-guard. I was not ready for a nostalgia whiplash like that
From the title I thought the game was Afterimage.
Great game btw, I played on vacation.
It's cool to see a game I've actually played before on here!
Now you need to check out a main series game. I suggest Subterranean Animism, since it was the first one I brute forced my way through... on the lower difficulties.
Really appreciate the Furi soundtrack at the end. 'My Only Chance' is one of my favorite songs great choice 👌
14:52 for those wondering, this song is Make This Right by The Toxic Avenger
Yooo, I'm glad I could be here so early to watch this video. I love this game to bits.
Thanks for the content! So dramatic!
I watched a bit of your video and chose to play through it all yesterday. It's kinda short but pretty fun. Oh and the secret final boss is much tougher than all the other bosses.
whats the song you used for the final boss?
Music from “Furi”
The Toxic Avenger - My Only Chance
My mood when Touhou is mentioned even last remotely: 😊
You inspire me to play all the Metroidvania games you play
Song at successful final boss scene is "the toxic avenger-my only chance"
Always Fun watching new people play this game. Was an awesome video to watch. That ending was insane. Was actually pretty close to death there from the cranberry trap. GG
Always nice to see one of my favorite Xbox Metroidvanias be played more.
Touhou is truly a blessing!
What?! I played this game like 2 years ago and I was sure I only did it because indei had made a video about it. I'm losing it bros.
7:00 Metroidvania gods: "so you gonna talk shit about silksong? let's adjust your karma now... but yeah, is take so long..."
Man really hit me with the JOE ZOMBIE reference... gahd DAYUM. Right in my angsty early teens.
I caught that deadbolt song at 8:10. Great game and soundtrack I'll have to look up if you ever did a video for it
Looks interesting.
Nice vid.
Maus kills me every time with Newgrounds references. Yes I remember Joe Zombie.
Luna Nights was my gateway into Touhou back in 2018, and I'm really glad I played it.
It's an experience playing EoSD for the first time and hearing the original songs that were covered in this game.
It was only a matter of months before I watched Bad Apple again and found that I could name every character.
