My top 3 is metroid prime, hollow knight, and castlevania symphony of the knight. Probably very common, but those are the first that pops into my mind.
"One day, we're gonna look back at this video and remember how none of us had access to Silksong yet." It's been 3 years... Ender Lilies was just made free on PS Plus... I platinumed it tonight... The wait for Silksong continues...
I'm on my second playthrough right now. man, this game is so good. and to quote another metroidvania-based channel; "this game doesn't deserve to live in the shadow of another game that hasn't come out yet."
Problem is it invites the comparison because even down to the plot it's very similar to hollow knight. Still loved it though and I'm looking forward to whatever they make next.
I played the two Ori games recently, and with all the (kind of dumb) comparison with HK that people always make, I had to remind myself several times to not compare it to HK and let the games fall or rise on their own merit. The result? Blind forest is a pretty cool game, but the little metroivania elements are honestly detrimental to it's quality. Like, if this was a linear 2d platformer, I could easily imagine being motivated to replay it often, but because it isn't, you're kind of force to go out of your way to get some upgrades if you don't wanna suffer. Will of the wisps is an actual metroidvania game and is overall simply superior to it's predecessor thanks to an increase in scope, complexity and combat system, but I couldn't help but be disappointed by the incredibly low difficulty level, the recycling of too many elements from the first game(main bad guy, wellspring having an identical function and same place in the game as the ginso tree, a few other environnements that feel too similar) and a much worse soundtrack. ....Still, shortly after finishing Will of the wisp, I started Hollow Knight again after not playing for five months, and my gosh, this game is so freacking good.
@@Oscar97o haven't played them, only major difference from HK in the gameplay is that you can't propel yourself freely using melee attacks. So no bouncing off spikes, and that's it. There's more options for attack types, but most line up with what you can use charms with so it's not that dissimilar.

From the thumbnail, I was expecting a "Hollow Knight clone: waifu edition" but was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is actually a really neat game on its own.
Fun fact, rat plagues still happen and is real. There's one happening in bush Australia atm. Literally like swaths of rat on the forest floor sweeping across the land
I guess I should play this game now that it’s free on ps5 and ender lilies got delayed. Last 5 games I played though were Remnant, Control, Returnal, FF7 dlc and Enter the Gundgeon. Seems like the complete opposite in terms of gameplay of what I’m used to playing right now lol.

honestly, the mossbag reference whenever lore was brought up was hilarious. Imagine he becomes the metroidvania lore guy, but then silksong releases right after that and he just goes back to purely hollow knight content

After watching the Gas Gauntlet edit I have to say this. My husband and I have been VERY long time fans. I believe I first actually wrote to you about 5 or maybe even 6 years ago. Your editing has gotten to the point where, and no I am not being sarcastic when I say this, it is seriously akin to serious art. It is so engaging, funny and extremely tense. You do such a *wonderful* job capturing what had to have been sheer intensity for you as you played it but showing it to us, the audience in a way where we too can actually engage in that tension to an extent. You've always been so wonderful at showing the serious sad side of stories so that the comedy doesn't overlap it and make it impossible to take seriously. I really love watching your work with my hubby (my higschool sweetheart and best friend). I wish so much that we could financially show our support but for now all I can do is comment. Yeah as soon as i saw the title "wait so basically he's checking this out only because silksong isn't out yet?" Not cool... I'd expect more professionalism from him. And i mean he's not wrong, most people really did pick it up because of that, but if he enjoyed the game i'd expect he would have called it "super lilies" or something like that, like the rest of his game overviews.
I get it but like, no one was confused about what game he was playing after watching the video and literally silk song was on my mind for like 1 minute during the intro since he never mentioned hollow knight after like half way. Maybe you’re just soft

The issue is using hollow knight for views implies that Ender Lilies alone couldn't do that, even when it's a quality game. Pretty disrespectful towards the people that made it, kinda like that time MatPat streamed a game which I forgot the name of and titled it something on the lines of "undertale like game" or something like that. And it's not even like MatPat because he didn't just compare it to Hollow Knight, he insinuated the game is something to be played "whilst we wait for silksong" implying once silksong is out its value is way higher than the one of Ender Lilies itself
Love the selection of the final boss song “My only Chance” by the toxic Avenger used in the game ‘Furi’. An under appreciated game which solely focuses on boss fights. Tying it’s theme song into this boss fight reminded me of how difficult the final boss of Furi was. I like it.
Man the game looks cool but I kinda wish these devs would try to be more original about things instead of just making alot of stuff that's basically just supposed to reference fromsofts creations.
@@AttackTitan993 Yeah I realize that I just think that whenever devs make games with a dark fantasy setting now it's almost like they feel like they have to include references to from soft stuff somewhere in it. It just gets kinda old ulv isn't necessarily one but that keeper of the abyss definitely is even indei saw that. Point is unintentional or not it's gonna draw parallels to the abyss watchers its kinda similar to the fact that everyone likes to call everything thats somewhat difficult, has a dark fantasy setting and/or maybe has a dodge mechanic "soulslike". It's because I don't want everything dark fantasy to just be constantly compared to dark souls and such that I'm bringing it up does that make sense? I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to act like referencing fromsoft stuff is bad it's just maybe it should be kept to hidden little pathways that have secrets that are references and not bosses themselves you know?
That bastard boss, I couldn't find him for hours because I kept forgetting that there's doors that won't open if there's enemies nearby, because said doors look exactly the same as doors you open with switches.
Seeing your playthrough made me realize how much more open this game was than I originally thought. I actually got to the execution grounds and beat Hoenir before even setting foot in the area with Ulv in it. I also somehow made it all the way through the Verboten Domain without ever picking up the Heretic's Mask, I only found it later as I was combing for items and felt really dumb lmao. Also, the big club is the best weapon for general exploration and I will die on this hill, it also saved me during the blight lord fight because of how quickly it dispatches the laser minions.
I was 11 when Hollow knight was released. Now, 18 years old, planning to leave for the military and I still have no clue as to when silksong will release

The music, atmosphere and artwork, and dialogue... so everything basically, is just mind blowing! The stories the characters had to say were compelling and when the White Priestess was talking to the player, that was a heartfelt moment... actually made me tear up T_T
If SilkSong comes out next year I’m gonna be spending a lot of money, “Battlefield 2042” “ELDEN RING!!, BABYYYYY!!!” “BOTW 2” “SilkSong, and any other smaller games that are released.

I just beat the game 100% recently, all secrets found in every map, qll orange rooms (except final boss room tho I don't think it turns orange ever lol), lvl 100, all relics and spirits, max HP and Relic Slots, and every Achievement. What a damn fine game. God did I have a fun time getting through it all and experiencing everything it had to offer. I'd have to say my favorite spirit setup had to be Set A Umbral Knight, Elaine, and Gerrod primarily for combat, and Set B Umbral Knight/Ulv (mainly his charge attack), Verboten Champion, and Incompetent Sinner primarily for traversing environments. Man what a great Metroidvania to sink my teeth into after not playing one for so long. Huge thanks for making this vid cuz Idk if I would have ever known about this game otherwise. Now to actually continue waiting for anymore info on Silksong....

Theirs a lot of brocken spirit combos, once you upgrade hammer guy he gets a two hit combo, is pritty slow but the spider spirit fucking freezes enemyes in place, so i a pritty easy way to turn evirhting into tortillas. Also that furi soundtrack is still a bangging.
I saw this and Rusty's video about Ender Lilies and decided to try it. I'm a huge Hollow Knight fan and I'm so glad I saw these videos and decided to try Ender Lilies because this game is incredible! I'm close to the end of the game and can say it's my next favorite Metroidvania after Hollow Knight! This game is super slept on and there isnt nearly enough content out about it. Please put out more Ender Lilies content and I'll watch it all!
This is a great game! It looks so beautiful! I'll definitely be wanting to try this out. I'm getting a lot of dark souls and hollow knight vibes from this
It's funny because in my opinion, you passed up on some stellar A+ abilities. Witch's magic missile? Definitely super good, but the first ability you get, the swinging ball and chain? Unbelievably good anti-air. The floral sorceress tornado? It shreds enemy stamina like you wouldn't believe, Mad Knight's claw attack is extremely fast and versatile. Honestly this game did an excellent job of encouraging me to try out a lot of different powers to deal with different situations and enemies. Just saying, that eyeball in the nook would have been way easier to take out if you'd had floral sorceress.

It seems like a sign of being civilized, to me. In my own life experience as an American, there are two types of people, those who automatically remove their shoes when entering another's home, and those who do not. The latter are generally assholes or morons or, if neither, then come from a family dominated by such characters. It's like an instant litnus test for who is considerate and reasonable, and who is pushy and openly selfish. Now, wearing shoes in your own home is something completely different... and yeah that just sounds like some kind of psychopath or eccentric.
As an answer to the question. I where shoes in my own home because I'm deathly afraid of stubing my toes again like I do EVERY GOD DANG TIME. Not saying I'm not a serial killer but that's not the reason.
Theres quite a few more Metroidvanias out there. You just got to look around as none of them have a AAA hype train. Also I added this game to my list so I'mma skip this video to avoid spoilers.
The problem with some indie metroidvanias is they either look the same as each other, are way too expensive for a game you know nothing about (Ender Lilies is $30 and while I get that's cheap for games nowadays, Ori and Hollow Knight are cheaper), aren't actual metroidvanias (thanks steam tags), or are just real short and not that interesting
8:49 this video inspired me to pick this game up a couple years ago, so mission accomplished. The soundtrack blew me away especially when combined with everything else, so good.

Seeing your playthrough made me realize how much more open this game was than I originally thought. I actually got to the execution grounds and beat Hoenir before even setting foot in the area with Ulv in it. I also somehow made it all the way through the Verboten Domain without ever picking up the Heretic's Mask, I only found it later as I was combing for items and felt really dumb lmao. Also, the big club is the best weapon for general exploration and I will die on this hill, it also saved me during the blight lord fight because of how quickly it dispatches the laser minions.
Finally, after finishing my own video I could come here and watch yours Indei and as always it was worth the wait.

The music, atmosphere and artwork, and dialogue... so everything basically, is just mind blowing! The stories the characters had to say were compelling and when the White Priestess was talking to the player, that was a heartfelt moment... actually made me tear up T_T
If SilkSong comes out next year I’m gonna be spending a lot of money, “Battlefield 2042” “ELDEN RING!!, BABYYYYY!!!” “BOTW 2” “SilkSong, and any other smaller games that are released.

I just beat the game 100% recently, all secrets found in every map, qll orange rooms (except final boss room tho I don't think it turns orange ever lol), lvl 100, all relics and spirits, max HP and Relic Slots, and every Achievement. What a damn fine game. God did I have a fun time getting through it all and experiencing everything it had to offer. I'd have to say my favorite spirit setup had to be Set A Umbral Knight, Elaine, and Gerrod primarily for combat, and Set B Umbral Knight/Ulv (mainly his charge attack), Verboten Champion, and Incompetent Sinner primarily for traversing environments. Man what a great Metroidvania to sink my teeth into after not playing one for so long.
Huge thanks for making this vid cuz Idk if I would have ever known about this game otherwise. Now to actually continue waiting for anymore info on Silksong....

Theirs a lot of brocken spirit combos, once you upgrade hammer guy he gets a two hit combo, is pritty slow but the spider spirit fucking freezes enemyes in place, so i a pritty easy way to turn evirhting into tortillas. Also that furi soundtrack is still a bangging.
Best thing: Ender Lillies already has it's sequel in early access.

I saw this and Rusty's video about Ender Lilies and decided to try it. I'm a huge Hollow Knight fan and I'm so glad I saw these videos and decided to try Ender Lilies because this game is incredible! I'm close to the end of the game and can say it's my next favorite Metroidvania after Hollow Knight! This game is super slept on and there isnt nearly enough content out about it. Please put out more Ender Lilies content and I'll watch it all!

It's funny because in my opinion, you passed up on some stellar A+ abilities. Witch's magic missile? Definitely super good, but the first ability you get, the swinging ball and chain? Unbelievably good anti-air. The floral sorceress tornado? It shreds enemy stamina like you wouldn't believe, Mad Knight's claw attack is extremely fast and versatile. Honestly this game did an excellent job of encouraging me to try out a lot of different powers to deal with different situations and enemies.
Just saying, that eyeball in the nook would have been way easier to take out if you'd had floral sorceress.
And we're still waiting

It seems like a sign of being civilized, to me. In my own life experience as an American, there are two types of people, those who automatically remove their shoes when entering another's home, and those who do not. The latter are generally assholes or morons or, if neither, then come from a family dominated by such characters. It's like an instant litnus test for who is considerate and reasonable, and who is pushy and openly selfish.
Now, wearing shoes in your own home is something completely different... and yeah that just sounds like some kind of psychopath or eccentric.

The problem with some indie metroidvanias is they either look the same as each other, are way too expensive for a game you know nothing about (Ender Lilies is $30 and while I get that's cheap for games nowadays, Ori and Hollow Knight are cheaper), aren't actual metroidvanias (thanks steam tags), or are just real short and not that interesting
What decent metroidvania games would you suggest?

8:49 this video inspired me to pick this game up a couple years ago, so mission accomplished. The soundtrack blew me away especially when combined with everything else, so good.
