Those shavings mean business. But we always hope its something simple. hardly ever is. You have what I would call a catastrophic failure. I feel your pain. I had to get my 2000 F150 tranny overhauled but had 218K. No shavings, just built in mileage failure.

Needs full rebuild, possible hard parts damage, fluid is overheated. driveway tip of the day...after loosening the pan allowing initial fluid drain just slide a floor jack under the pan and have it loosely support the pan until all bolts are out then with 2 hands support the pan against the trans firmly removing the slack and kick the jack away so the pan can be lowered.

My silverado had these same symptoms last year, wouldn't drive in reverse and felt like something was binding up in the transmission, but i could drive forward all day long for awhile, then after i tried to back up again it started binding up in forward and reverse both, dropped the trans pan and found metal chunks, long story short, chevys stock torque converters in the 2013 6 speed silverados are junk, it never locked up fully, threw debris in the pump and burned it up, scored the bellhousing, and starved the rest of the trans of fluid. The planetary gears in the trans were chipped thus binding the whole operation up. Had to get a $3200 rebuild. So in advance if you're looking to buy a silverado make sure that it has a 4L80e and not a 6L80e.

  • @williamC8227

I will tell you from experience that little yellow plug that you see inside the pan is the plug that would normally block the dipstick tube hole in the transmission they push that through when they insert the dipstick tube when the truck is being manufactured. A lot of times that plug will fall down into the pan and it's usually forgotten about it won't harm anything but to any good mechanic that knows what to look for if somebody brings in their vehicle with transmission trouble and they find that plug still in the pan that's usually a good indication that the vehicle has never had the transmission serviced. It looks like your transmission never ever had a fluid change.

Hey Joel, I'm aware this video is 3 years old. But if you plan to change your own fluid and filter in the future. B&M, others to probably, sells an aftermarket drain plug you can install into the pan. The only thing the kit doesn't come with is the drill bit to make the hole. It's definitely worth the few bucks!!

The next time for anyone watching you just take the main drain hole plug assembly out of the pan before to drain the fluid very easy the larger plug that connect directly to the pan simply remove that drain it and then remove the pan easy peasy

That's the bung or plug that fills the hole for the dipstick. Once the dipstick and tube are installed at factory, the bung gets pushed out and droppes into the pan.

@@lisahughes7053 just actually solved it on my uncles car, so we did 3 things, be my guest to try one at a time to know what the problem was. I said it was the computers that needed a reset, & the fluid was too high. There's 2 set of notches on the dip stick the lower one is what you're working with unless the car is hot you want to make sure you fill it between the lower set of notches on the dip stick not past. They filled it with double what it should have been. Also just leave the battery unplugged for a while to reset the computer ez. My uncle and cousin wanted to redo it. We got a new filter & gasket from advance auto parts & more transmission fluid. We redid it wiggled the solenoids with clean gloves on & hand tightened everything back together no big tools. Replaced the battery and filled the transmission one to one & a half bottles of transmission fluid until you get to the bottom notches of the dipstick. Give it a couple minutes in between filling to check the dipstick to let the fluid settle. Lmk if you get the chance to try it we are curious what it was. It's running better than it ever was like a completely different car magnificent.
