Created as a companion video to my series of CARTOON EVOLUTION videos (specifically 'Evolution of MARIO - 42 Years Explained'), I take a look at the vocal evolution of the character as I compare the voices of all of Mario's official voice actors over time!

Becoming Charles Martinet's successor will be quite the shoes to fill. The role of Mario is a gaming legend at this point.
Charles is a great man so whoever will take his place must bring the heart when charles becomes mario!

With the way things are going, they'll probably just use A.I. to replicate Martinet's voice. Or just use stock audio since Mario doesn't talk all that much and mostly just says a few words when he does.

What an amazing voice evolution on one of the iconic video game characters I remember hearing a little bit of Charles Martinez Mario voice While playing on Mario karts on the Wii U And of course I enjoyed Chris Pratt's performances as Mario In the Movie and I am absolutely amazed of how amazingly well that it did in the box office.
Chris pratt was amazing and I like when he says the line It's-a-meee!

That's Peter Cullen he also does Monterey Jack from Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.
With Nintendo announcing in August 2023 that Charles Martinet went to a new role as the "Mario Ambassador", Mario is now voiced by Kevin Afghani since Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Kevin previously made narration for Nintendo Switch commercials (which you can hear on his website) and he's a huge Mario fan that he owns a statue of Bowser, and he wore a Super Mario-themed costume for his high school prom.
3:29 Mario's first "Here we go!" and it does still sound like the modern version.

The Bad:
13. Nicholas Glassed
12. David Plastron
11. Ronald B. Ruben (Cheesy and awful as hell, but atleast they made an attempt to sound Italian unlike the last two)
The Meh:
10. Harris Shore
9. Peter Cullen (Both a bit too harsh sounding for my liking)
8. Larry Moran (Not bad, not bad, sounds very Italian, just a bit too soft for me)
7. Toru Doruya (His earlier performances are way too high pitched for Mario, but he improved significantly later on, giving the best Mario voice you could expect out of a Japenese man)
The Good:
6. Marc Graue (We can hate on the game and the terrible writing all we want, but on it's own, this is actually a pretty good voice for Mario, just a shame it couldn't of showed up in any other game)
5. Bob Hoskins (Again, terrible source material, but good voice. It has a nice edge to it)
4. Chris Pratt (Doesn't sound very Italian or Brooklyn like, but it still fits somehow)
The Perfect:
3. Walker Boone (Does a good job impersonating Albano)
2. Charles Martinet (What can I say, this is THE voice of Mario. I like to picture Mario with more of a Brooklyn accent myself, but Martinet is just so expressive and passionate in what he does, that I could not rank this one any lower than number 2)
1. Lou Albano (Maybe controversial, but I just think Albano works so well. Such a strong Brooklyn accent, and so expressive too. Even the terrible DIC writing couldn't stop Albano from bringing Mario to life so perfectly)
I love the voice evolution of super mario and my favorite voice actors are harris shore, tóru duruya, lou albano, walker boone, bob hoskins, charles martinet and chris pratt and both charles and chris are the best mario voice actors! ❤🥰🍄👍

I've came across this weird JETIX commercial from the UK that promoted Mario Kart Double Dash and the voice actor wasn't CHARLES MARTINET.
Comparing Charles Martinet in person at 8:22, to him in person at 8:28, and the Mario voice definitely sounds a lot deeper and more raspy and there's less falsetto. You can definitely hear the age in Charles in more recent years.

Awesome video and very interesting Chris Pratt isn’t gonna play Mario in other media video games or other stuff is he? Because we’ve only heard him in the movie if we hear him as Mario again I’m pretty sure that’s gonna be a second Mario movie, right?
As someone who was born in 2002 and had never really heard any other voices then Mario’s current voice actor, it is so freaking jarring hearing Mario talk in a deep New York accent.

In that clip with Mario In Real Time, Steve Coyle was voicing Mario. Another fun fact is that he was helping Charles Martinet test the Real Time puppet system before Martinet used it himself.
In fact, from the same video you referenced, you can see Martinet fitting the helmet on Coyle WAY before the event began. I would've told you sooner, but I forgot the guy's real name and didn't fact check in time. My apologies...😅

Charles Martinet is a legend. Legends never die. I'm sad to see him go. His last game was the remake of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Kevin Afghani does a good job. It's hard to move on from Charles that was the Mario voice of my childhood. I was 8 when I became a Mario fan I'm not 30. Charles leaving is another piece of my childhood leaving. It's hard to let Charles go. I'm excited to see more of what Kevin Afghani has in store as Mario. I'm still getting used to Kevin Afghani as Mario. Chris Pratt was ok as Mario. Everyone else crushed their roles.

Not just Sunshine, the entire GameCube/DS era. It felt like Mario’s voice was naturally high pitched rather than forced high.
