The Paper Mario games have always had the most creative deaths. If I remember correctly, Super Paper Mario has another one in which Dimentio takes control of Mario and Luigi’s minds using the Floro Sprouts in world 8-3.
You are correct. Also, there's another one where, if you refuse to help look for Luvbi in the Underwhere, Queen Jaydes hits you several times with lightning bolts to kill you, then permanently imprisons your dead self in the Underwhere. Brutal stuff...

Props to them for making the deaths not seem forced. It feels like everything that Mario dies to in this video is a legitimate way someone could die while playing. The most notable example is the first one in Sunshine with the spikes. They could've made Mario just stand in place and take the death without intervening, but they went through the trouble of either A, replaying that part until Mario died in just the right way, B, timing the spin perfectly to where Mario would die before jumping, or C, finding a clip of someone legitimately dying that way either in their own footage archive or someone else's. Either way, they put forth more effort than the bare minimum, which I can appreciate.
Edit: Bonus points for showing the lava glitch in CM for the lava death, I feel that's one a lot of people forget.
Edit 2: The poison mushroom one was pretty forced though, but come on, who in their right mind would do that unironically?

Not wearing the helmet is definitely the funniest death, especially because the player is given several chances, and the game is even nicer because after a while you have to choose "Yes" to die instead of "No" which makes it even harder to die

If there’s one thing I didn’t know you could do in Super Paper Mario is refusing to wear a helmet enough times to end your game, and I like how Tippi says it’s not like being in water! That’s the best I’ve seen yet! And to add, my favorite part about this world is battling against Brobot because of that sick background-even when you pause the game!
The funny thing is that you may accidentally miss the death because the yes and no are reversed (in the sense that after a while you need to press yes instead of no to get it)

...I wonder if 19 would be in a different category with the Amazy Dayzee's song (which does 20 damage instead of 2; also you have to be *seriously* overleveled to reach 100 HP).
You know, if you take the _Henry Stickmin Collection_ multiverse interpretation at face value and say that _all_ possible paths are equally canon... there's an exponentially higher number of universes where Bowser _won_ compared to ones where Mario won. From Mario's perspective, assuming each life is a new timeline branched off from the most recent checkpoint, he has to essentially _perfect run_ the entire game, from 1-1 all the way to Bowser's Galaxy Reactor, without a single mistake. Bowser? Just has to wait for his nemesis to miscalculate a single jump, and he's won.

The funniest death to me has to be losing a challenge in Galaxy. You are playing a game with a few penguins and just barely get passed at the end only to end up getting a heart attack and instantly die for no reason.

@@IvanFranco120 I'm referring to the final Antasma battle - sometimes after the bat attack Mario will fall asleep and will dream that he's getting chased by Antasma (and, if you're not good at dodging, falling down a pit of saws). If you run out of HP during this, Mario doesn't wake up, and the GAME OVER screen is shown. It's a bit morbid when I describe it like this, actually...

It had never really occurred to me just how violent a lot of these deaths are, apart from drowning and quicksand.

01 - Mr. Mario was crushed from the head down by approximately 32,000 pound of concrete. Facing severe crush syndrome, he was killed on impact.
02 - From what appears to be a mysterious accident beyond human comprehension, Mario was found cut clean in half in the abdomen by what can described in mechanism as "Smooth as a paper cut." His digestive organs were severed and he bled out within 2 minutes
03 - Disfigured remains were found washed up on a beach in the mushroom kingdom with clothing that can be attributed to the missing "Mario M. Mario". Investigations determine that he was eaten alive by an elephant sized piranha. He was believed to be killed in one bite.
04 - After going out for a hike in the desert, Mario suddenly found himself amongst a field of quicksand. Struggling to escape only pulled him further into the pile and he suffocated within 1 minute whilst facing body wide crush syndrome.
05 - Mario was found with 4th degree burns on his buttocks and lower thighs. With rescue miles away, he quickly succumbed to burn induced hypothermia and died.
06 - Mario came in contact with open electrical hazards and faced scorching burns on both his skin and interior organs. He was killed immediately
07 - Attempting to swim in the arctic, Mario quickly found the freezing waters to inhibit his muscle performance to escape and he succumbed to hypothermia and extreme frostbite.
08 - Mario was out with what can be presumed as a "morbidly obese twin brother", A sudden thunderstorm produced an E-5 Tornado. Mario was sucked by the 302 MPH winds and was torn apart immediately. Only a tiny fraction of his remains were identified
09 - Mario M. Mario suddenly...had a heart attack
10 - Investigations were inconclusive, however hypothesis says there was possible improvised ordinance from an unknown source in the area of which Mario's remains were found. He had minor apparent injuries but autopsy revealed his organs had been pushed forcibly and ruptured resulting in total organ failure. Conclusive was some kind of explosive device.
11 - In a case that has baffled the most qualified scientists and medical experts, Mario was found to have had all of his organs replaced with turtle shells that had engravings on them of an unknown language.
12 - Mario was taking a tour in a DOD classified facility when he discarded his low level clearance badge and made his way towards top secret testing. The facility was placed on lockdown as the search began. Dispatch team was able to quickly locate Mario as he had been penetrated with a Lazer from the top of his cranium all the way to his groin. Damage to vital organs was detected and he was pronounced dead.

Don't forget hammers, boomerangs, failing to pop all the balloons on a roller Coaster in Super Mario Sunshine, and not watching the Super Mario Bros Super Show and being turned into a goomba.

The Paper Mario games always had funny ways to game over, but one of my favorites has to come from Mario and Luigi Dream Team.
If you hadn’t played the game, I don’t blame you, it’s very lackluster. But there’s a point in the game where you come across a dream fountain and if you drink the water from it, there will be a scroll of text saying that the water put Mario and Luigi in a deep sleep where they dreamt that they were in a land full of mushrooms and then grew so massive that they couldn’t shrink back down, and then you get a fake game over. I guess it doesn’t really count as a death though because your companion wakes you up immediately after the game over screen, but that was definitely the funniest part of the game.

Some of these are hilariously gruesome and/or dark for a kids game when you think about them. Take the cut in half, eaten alive, swallowed by quick sand and being frozen for examples. Those are very painful ways to go. Gotta love Nintendo! (Also worst way is Gravity for any video game, hardest boss ever!)
