The beauty of PARIS | Lumix S5 + DJI RS2

  • Hey,
    this video took me over a year to finish because I had so many other projects but now it is finally done...
    Anyways, in August of 2021 me and my girlfriend spent about a week together in Paris and I wanted to capture the feeling of this amazing city. I hope I could do this for you and you enjoy watching it!
    GEAR
    camera: Panasonic Lumix S5
    lens: Sigma 24-70mm F2.8
    filter: Freewell 2-5 Stop VND
    gimbal: DJI RS 2
    Edited with Davinci Resolve
    Graded with Phantom LUTs (Eterna)
    The video is (almost) exclusively filmed on a gimbal because I had just bought the DJI RS2 before the trip and wanted to test it out.
    Normally I like more of handheld look or at least a mix of handheld and gimbal. If you want to know how that looks, you can check out my last video from a trip to Berlin: • Freezing days in BERLI...
    Have a good time! :)

    Incredible and beautiful work! For a moment I thought you had used some vintage lens, due to the halation of certain shots, but then I saw that you used a Sigma 24-70mm. I imagine you added it in editing.
    Either way excellent work. I have the same camera and I'm about to buy the Sigma 28-70mm lens. One query, at what focal length did you use the lens for your shots?
    I just subscribed. I'll keep an eye out for your content. best regards!

    • @kunterbuntfilm
      @kunterbuntfilm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for the kind words and your sub. I try to upload more regularly. :))
      Actually yeah, this is all shot on this single Sigma Zoom Lens but I love to hear that it gave you like a vintage vibe even though it is such a modern clinical sharp lens. This is what I was going for and yes I added the halation in post. :))
      I really want to finally try out real vintage glass though!
      I have to admit, especially when I switched to the Sony a7 s iii half a year ago, I asked myself if I should go for the 24 or the 28 to 70 from Sigma (just for emount this time) and then I went with the bigger one again. The extra 4 mm played a big role for me at the low focal length but my advise would be to rent maybe just the 28mm one because it‘s cheaper to rent and buy of course and if you are fine with it in terms of wideness you can go with that one and save a lot of money and weight which is also a big factor of course…. But don‘t forget about the 2nd version of the Tamron 28-75 2.8 which is optically almost identical to the Sigma version. I would just decide depending on the price between these two. By the way the used market is great for all three of these.
      Ah, one last thing to consider is the weather sealing if you are not afraid of rain and have a sealed camera body I might go for 24-70 because it is weather sealed.
      So yeah. Sorry for this very long message that kind of escalated but I hope it could help you. Haha

      I got so many questions about how to use the phantom luts together with VLog footage that I am planning to make a video about it because it is actually super simple.

      Thanks a lot! :))
      I loved the setup and especially the camera, but because of the wish for better codecs and framerates I went over to Sony‘s a7s iii and I have to say it produces really nice images and the autofocus is awesome
      BUT the camera usability in terms of buttons and menus and the build quality is worse than on the S5 at three times the price… Lowlight performance is actually also basically identical to the S5.
      So what I want to say is: Stick to the S5 my friend and maby wait for a mark 2 or S6…
      Actually this was all shot in 1080 at 60fps, no 4k at all, because back then I had to save storage but I am actually surprised how good the image quality is in general and also in terms of detail even though the footage was lowres in today’s standard but it just shows how everything else matters so much more. :)

    • @dreamwalks8200
      @dreamwalks8200 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love this footage. I also rock the S5. Idk why but when i compare S5 footage with A7Siii footage, the S5 seems always softer and somehow the image Pops more on the Sony in terms of the feeling of depth and detail in a picture. I wonder if i can achieve that with the right settings and grading.

    • @kunterbuntfilm

      Hi, I only use manual focus with the S5 because the autofocus is just not reliable at all and on the gimbal I used the electronic manual focusing through the camera but I was quite disappointed how jumpy it looked. So for a focus rack without these little steps I would use the external motor! :)

    Great shots!

    • @kunterbuntfilm
      @kunterbuntfilm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, the filter doesn‘t have an impact on image quality in terms of sharpness but definitely color (green shift) and also build quality… After a couple of months the play between the two parts of the filter became too strong so that the rotation was not smooth anymore so that I returned both the 2-5 and the 6-9 variant.
      Since half a year I am using the Nisi True Color VND and that one is nearly perfect in terms of optical quality (color and sharpness), build quality and in that it has the highest useable range of a screw on ND of 4 stops (1-5) that I know of, without any issues such as vignetting or x-pattern.
      I know one Nisi True Color is basicly double the price of one Freewell and you don‘t have the high ND numbers but I just use a solid 3 stop ND under it on sunny days and it works flawlessly.

      @@kunterbuntfilm do you recommend the s5 or sony a7iv for gimbal and handheld work filming stationary cars?

    • @kunterbuntfilm
      @kunterbuntfilm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePistonPit This is a tough question.
      If you have invested in any lenses for one of the systems yet, I would go for that one.
      Even though I switched to a Sony a7 s iii the handling and built quality on the S5 was much better.
      If autofocus (especially in video) and better stills matter to you the a7 iv might be the better pick.
      In terms of video features overall and the low light, the S5 is slightly better.
      To name some superior video features on the S5: true cinema 4k, anamorphic modes, shutter angle.
      If you are completely starting out, the a7 iv might be the more expensive camera in the first place but the lens selection and pricing for emount is generally better.

    • @ThePistonPit
      @ThePistonPit ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kunterbuntfilm thanks for your reply.
      I’m just worried about having it on a gimbal and shooting cars close up etc and how the auto focus would be.
      There’s a deal going for the s5 with the kit lens and the 50mm f1.8…
      Problem is i got the a7iv with the sigma 24-70mm… thats the only lens i have, but long term would the s5 be a better choice.
      I can sell the a7iv with the lens, buy the s5.

    • @kunterbuntfilm
      @kunterbuntfilm  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePistonPitI mean that is your choice but if you already have this setup I would definitely stick to that. You get a basicly identical image out of the S5 and the a7iv.
      The hustle of reselling isn‘t worth it in my opinion.
      What I forgot to mention earlier are the way better codecs of the a 7 iv which are much easier to edit.
      And another thing is that both cameras have quite a strong rolling shutter effect so you don’t have a difference there either.
      I only had the 24-70 2.8 for over two years because it is the best all arounder on the market but if you really want that 50mm with a higher aperture you have a lot of cheap but good ones for sony as well. :)

For grading I started with the Eterna Phantom Lut as a base, added some slight general color adjustments, then I tried to make the skin look as organic and true to life as possble and apart from that I just put on some halation and grain again.
