first? With that out of the way...great demo! It's also nice to see some quality lighting in there, can't wait to see the new videos coming out of the updated studio and well drained wash bay. Great water behavior on that DPT coating, reminds me of my Diamond Body 36 that is coming up on 12 months of life and still beading like Day 1.
1:55 is expanding and contracting not also something that occurs when an unprotected paint is exposed to heat? My understanding was that was the reason why water spots where difficult to remove, the heat (or cold) combined with the water (and mineral content) once returned to its normal temperature, is no longer expanded or contracted, which is why it’s difficult to remove.
My 3M PPF is 4 years old and I have had no issues. It goes through Chicago weather annually. I do my own maintenance with clay barring, compounding, polishing, washing and coatings. A mix of brands with some toppers in between everything. I treat the PPF the same as the paint. Looks great. It has prevented so many potential rock chips. I will continue to use 3M PPF on future vehicles.
Halo V2 is a great product that I can vouch for. Bug guts are a nightmare on ppf and will etch. Halo V2 makes bug removal easier and at best use Gtechiq W8 as that is the best bug remover I have ever used
It is fine, they mean not letting it dwell on the surface. because it can cause product to swell. But you still need to prep the panel by the Halo Instructions which state to use panel prep
Unfortunately many ppf brands will only warranty the film (PPF) if you apply their ceramic coatings. So applying your ceramic to say XPEL ppf will void the 10 year XPEL warranty. Be careful people. Ask your ppf installers.
But if a yearly "maintenance" (topper) is required for that 8 year lifetime...is it actually the coating that lasts for 8 years? Or is it just the topper that gives the illusion of that? By that token, I've made Bead Maker last for 4 years because I apply it every 3-6 months.
@@jeffc6832 another channel found Beadcoat lasted only a month on a panel kept outdoors, while Xpel's 4-year coating was still holding up by the end of the test 2 years later.
@@jeffc6832 looks like my previous comment was deleted. But to answer your question, no that's without maintenance topper. Another channel tested Xpel's 4-year coating on an outdoor panel without a topper and it was still beading when the test ended 2 years later. They also found Beadmaker lasted less than a month.
First (for the most part) i like that you don't give a lot of spin about products usually but this video, I am not buying it. Paint coatings expand and contract. As you are aware there are many nonspecific coatings that will work just as well or better. So not digging the advertising.
“Nick is wrong!” Could not agree more 👍

You beat 1st from Puerto Rico 😳

Yes, you're right. Clear coat does expand and contract as well, but it does so at a much smaller scale compared to PPF or vinyl.

Glad to hear your experience with Halo v2 and W8 have been amazing! Thanks for watching!
So if you've already got say Optimum paint prep, you're saying it would not work to prep surface before applying other brands of coatings?
The Gtechniq panel wipe says “WARNING: Do not use on Vinyl or Paint Protection Films (PPF)”?

Was hoping this new video would have the OG studio renovation. Nope. Still see those silly hex lights. Time for new improved content😊
haha don't worry, our next video will be featuring the new and improved TRC studio!

@@jeffc6832You bring up a great point. None of these coatings really last as advertised unless "maintenance" is done.

I am disappointed, for that coating applicator I expected you using the “puck” style!
