I seriously need to start making my own clothes. Retro/vintage styles are superior to modern so much of the time! Every skirt wearing girl needs at least one of these on her closet!
Thanks ❤️ yeah it's one of my all time favorites! I just want all the clothes 😂 and the actual show was awsome too. I mean I really love the clothing in Alienist and the show is good but a bit dark to binge watch often were as this one is still dark but not too much.
oh my gosh!!! i love them so much!!!! you really ought to start selling your drafted patterns!! id love to have a go at this!!!! theyre beautiful!!! you did a great job!! xxx
Thanks! ❤️ I'm not really any good at pattern grading to all the sizes 😅 but I am planning on making some of my single size patterns available eventually now that I figured out how to turn them into pdfs when I made the regency bonnet pattern 😊
@@sewthroughtime put it this way, what you draft for yourself is a pattern and that is good enough for somebody like me to attempt to interpret and recreate, the fact yur already on the journey to making pdf file makes me so happy, i will be purchasing some from you!! you make absolutely beautiful pieces and you explain the process so well, even the demonstrations and showing of the pieces at the end... you're just great at what you do!!!
So happy to see an Amalia cosplay! I'm working on a cosplay of her outfit from the first episode, the skirt/blouse/jacket ensemble. Your skirt turned out lovely! I have the Truly Victorian 1901 Split Skirt pattern, and it is also the style that buttons up the middle, I'd like to try and convert it to the front panel style as well.
Ooh! That outfit is soo good too! 😍 The conversion wasn't too bad esp if you learn from my mistake and pattern out the front pleat were the buttons go 😅
@@sewthroughtime I appreciate you pointing out the mistakes! So much of my sewing is a gradual working towards eliminating all the mistake I made along the way :)
Thanks for sharing. It was enjoyable to watch. I have plans to sew my own in the future. I found a Buckaroo Bobbins pattern that is called a Western/Frontier riding skirt that looks much the same. Plan on doing a matching waistcoat when I do it. Now only to get my finances more stabilized and the find the perfect wool or cotton serve for it.
Sounds like a good plan 😊 I too am planning on making a matching waistcoat at some point since I have enough wool left. This one was a super lucky remnant find for a song so I got all of it lol
What kind of weight was the wool fabric used? I've been thinking about making this one off and on for about 5-6 years. If I did, then a matching long vest or jacket to go with it. I consider my creations to be retro as I sew it to suit myself. It would work well for a Goth aesthetic if the right wool fabric were used. Perhaps even a jacquard.
This was a remnant at an outlet so no clue as to the weight but I'd call this a mid weight. Definitely much heftier than a thin suiting but too thin to make a proper coat from. I'm still planning on making a matching vest but haven't got around to it 😅
@@sewthroughtime thanks for answering. I'm still planning this one out but also having to save up for the fabric. I'm a bit influenced by Bernadette Banner's Victorian Mob boss vibe. I wear my retro/period clothes as a part of my regular wardrobe.
@@sewthroughtime that's really cool. Once upon a time I wouldn't have been so daring. The split skirt with matching vest and dress shirt is something I would wear to work at the hotel. Also would work out for wearing to church too. So many things I want to sew but it would make my current wardrobe too big to manage most of my current clothes I made 8-9 years ago and they're still in great shape after wearing and washing every week. Control over quality is why I love to sew.
Lol now I feel ridiculously dumb! The reprint is of the 1901 version, the one on archive is the 1908 version on the split skirt in it on page 184 IS this style that I converted this into! 😂😂😂 I could have just used the free archive version and saved myself the trouble of figuring it out on my own! 🤣🤣🤣
Where do you buy fabrics ? I want natural fibers but geeez! They are expensive from what I have seen. I want to know how people afford all the flouncy ball gowns in taffeta or skirts in light or heavy wool ?! The cotton lace and velvet trims ?!? How do you do this I mean I can’t spend $600 on a dress ! Bc you add in chemise , corsets, petticoats, drawers, crinolines or corset covers, you add linings and trims , stockings and such, not to mention accessories that go with each.. I just don’t see how? Soooo I need to know where people find their fabrics that are quality but not break the bank quality !?

Haha saaaame
I watched it 7 times! 🤣🤣🤣... The esthetic... The clothing... Holy moly! It is gorgeous! I love it! 💞

Never heard of the show. I just bought it on amazon because of your recommendation. I love that time period too. Gonna go binge watch it! Thanks.
Have fun! It's a great show 😊

@@sewthroughtime I hope to find some good wool next time I'm in Portland.
Lovely!
you are a genius MWAH
I too drafted the pattern but am struggling with construction.
Well I hope this video helps a bit with it! Atleast for me the hem needed much more evening out than most patterns.

I love it! It such a wonderful creation. However I must be blind because I cannot find a bicycle skirt in the linked book on tailoring. :p
