Knock off with the Coast Guard vs. Navy. I personally are going through MEPs through the Navy for AIRR and the testing is similar for both. Only major difference is Navy has more missions WetSide where Coast Guard do much more DrySide. Wetside=internation missions, dryside=American land and or water. Both deserve your respect and appreciation for putting their lives aside for people that have never met before in their lives.
Spent a day with the SAR helicopter crewmen up at NAS Whidbey. Which happens to be the NAS this was filmed at. Great bunch of guys. Makes me feel a little safer.

@21ROYIK21 I have 20/2400 vision....basically almost legally blind yet I just got BARELY accepted into the Navy. But for a job like this, your vision must be about 20/20 (or better) I want this job, but I'm enlisting as a regular sailor and gonna do office work until Im 20 so I can get Laser-Eye surgery to become qualified for this job. CAN'T WAIT!!! And btw, Navy pays for the surgery :)

Yes they deploy on carriers and warships and work there to secure pilots who fly over the sea, only coast guard rescue swimmers stay within the border
if i fail buds and fail to become a SEAL can i apply to become a rescue swimmer or a diver or a SWCC??

Do rescue swimmers go to war? Let me explain something....being a rescue swimmer is only a small very small part of what you do as a aircrewman. Maybe 5% if that is spent getting wet after RSS. As for combat? Try looking up HCS 4 helicopter squadron and what there job entails before you make assumptions. It has since been renamed hsc 84 i think but red wolves patch is still same. Hh60 choppers and still home base out of nas norfolk. If you have questions you are better off asking an actual rescue swimmer! Think i saw one of the RSS instructors posted hell if he cant answer nobody can. I went through the school but was never an instructor nor have i been with squadrons such as anti sub or mine hunting or any frs squadrons attached aboard carriers. There are many squadrons in the navy and every one of them have a swimmer as a aircrewman. The job duties of each squadron is different as night and day. We had a sister squadron on west coast hcs 5 but every other unit was different. We solely did support operations for spec war group 2. Door gunner on h60/taxi ride for navy seals in short but yeah if a plane went down behind enemy lines we would be called. Fortunately while i was enlisted that call never came but yes i was trained for it.
They both do great work,and i was glad to be part of it back in the day.But please don't compare us to the puddle pirates. just kidding

@brandonberg1 you should pass but in boot depending on your age you need to do 55 pushups, but if you can do all taht youll pass its mostlly mental i got med discharge in rescue swimmer school after graduating aircrew school.
I want to do this job, I do 74 push ups 59 sit ups and my best mile is 4:55
Do Navy rescue swimmers actually make frequent saves? I know the coast guard has super long wait lists so it this a good alternative?

dude the navy rescue swimmers are nothing like the coast guard rescue swimmers. Th coast guard actully has helicopter the same colors.
If you want to really do this join the coast guard

to me this looks the same as coast guard rescue swimmer except the navy deals with land rescuing and the coast guard just deals with the...well coasts and sea really
i can do the fallowing:
500 meter swim-breaststroke-11minutes:31 seconds
46 push ups-military style- less than 2 minutes
58 sit up- less than 2 minutes
6-7 pull-ups---- no timing
1 1/2 mile run 9minutes:33 seconds
today i sam 1000 meters(one thousand) breast stroke in 23minutes:24 seconds
now what do i need on my contract this june? doing the delay entry program.
What is the difference between awr and aws. Do you get to pick. Also, are the schools for each the same?
Also which ones go to the sea and which stay at the shore. Thanks for the feedback
"best job in the Navy?" Perhaps.That's all relative. Some say the best job is SEALs, SWCC, or EOD ...
@nicolas1999444 Sorry. I'm a ARSS Instructor and we get a lot of BUDS DUDS that walk around like we owe them something. Go through whatever program that you are already one of them and you're just proving yourself to the instructors.

Yeah the is a very stupid arguement when one of my RSS instructors was coast guard. Up until recently all marine even though they hardly exist, navy, navy reserve, coast guard all went through aircrew candidate and rss together! My class had no marines,8 navy and 2 coast guard when was all said and done. Exact figures at the start i cant recall id say like 25-30 prolly? RSS has very high attrition ratio! To say one is better than the other is ridiculous. Forget the guardian movie dude it is a movie! Being a rescue swimmer is so others may live man not about who can pee further. Get real
