Good morning CW, I hope you are doing well! This round was purpose built for super sonic 130 to 150 gr bullets for deer and hog hunting and does very well at that. Many people who bought 300 blk rifles that do not own a suppressor would probably be better served by this cartridge. In the late eighties/early 90s, I worked on the development of the 30 Grendel (no relation to Alexander Arms). We had worked out all of the bugs and were about ready for production. I knew J D Jones and ran into him at the Trexpo law enforcement exposition in Tampa in '91. My partner and I had an integrally supressed AR chambered in 30 Grendel with us and we took him to the portable indoor range that was set up there. He was gonna help us with some publicity or so we thought. I personally handed him some empty brass. A month later he announced the 300 whisper. Our financial backer owned a small firearms manufacturing company in Cocoa fl and he shut the project down. He said that JD was to well connected in the firearms industry and that he could end our future in the business by blacklisting us. For twenty years, I wouldnt even own a 300 Blkout! Rat
I didn't get this videos notification. Glad I found it though. My tip removal method is more crude, I use a nail clipper and then medium grit sand paper to smooth the remaining tip. Achieve the same powder load and COAL as the 125 non tipped Sierra game kings.
It's hard to understand why this cartridge hasn't taken off. With the bullets we have today this cartridge is fantastic for deer sized game and tactical situations inside 300 yards. It will do everything the 7.62X39 round will do a little faster and with a .308 diameter bullet instead of a .310 diameter bullet. There are a lot more .308 diameter bullet styles and weights than there are in .310 allowing for more variety in performance. It isn't as good as the 300 Blackout for subsonic heavy weight bullets but at supersonic velocities with 100- 130+ gr bullets it does very well.
@@frankbrowning328 Yes sir! It is purpose built, for up to 150g bullets on Hogs. (Med big game close/med ranges) Its simply advertising. Wilson is well known and respected but they are not the marketing giant of Hornady...

I loaded up some 125gr sierra pro hunters, worked up to .2 grains under max with no pressure signs. Good accuracy, but only about 2500fps. Next trip im going to try max and a bit beyond. Im shooting for 2600 or a bit higher. Not that 2500fps is horrible, but as Jeremy Clarkson says. More POWER! Lol Thanks for an informative and interesting video.
So not knowing much about this specific cartridge, nonetheless leads me to add this to the discussion. I am bewildered by a certain element of the community who doesn't understand the importance of bullet construction relevant to its purposed intentional use. Or in other words that deer in the headlights look when talking that all .308 diameter bullet's are not created equal. The extreme differences with velocities design and intend function per projectile is vast. I've tried to simplify it to velocities to no avail. What works well at 300 black out velocities, is in most cases not suited for 30-30 velocities, as is 30-30 bullet's not well suited for 308 win and up. And opposite is also true. Hope I'm communicating it clearly, and know your understanding what it is that I am trying to convey. Long winded again Mountain man
@@StevenMMan The 30 had some issues with some bullets in some Cartridges. As a bullet purpose built for a 300 Magnum @ 3200 fps can be built to preform from 3200-1850 fps and 50-500 yards. Most people seem ta grasp this well enough. But somehow become surprised when they launch it @ 2000 and it fails to preform on game only 150-200 yards distant. Well just as when the bullet starts at 3200 and arrives at 500 doing 2200. That bullet started @ 2000 is only doing 1400 or so @ 175. MOST EVERY CUP N CORE GAME BULLET has a MINIMUM expanding velocity of about 1800 fps. ALSO MONOLITHIC COPPER BULLETS HAVE MINIMUM PROPER EXPANSION vel of 2200 PLUS! Before someone corrects me... They tell expansion is 1800 but let Me positively assure you, that is initial expansion and absolutely not "expansion" that you and I envision when we are told expansion. THAT KIND of expansion from a copper Bullet is 2200+ fps!!!!!
Sounds crazy but I knew a farmer that would use a bench grinder to take the tips of loaded FMJ ammo for his milsurp to make it legal to hunt with! Also saw a video years ago with a competition shooter that had a special cutter for competition bullets that did something similar.
1 thing I really like about the bonded bullets is that they tend to be a little softer than non bonded bullets. This allows them to expand at much lower velocities and in cartridges like this one that's a good thing

Morning CW! Interesting cartridge. Sounds like you almost get .308 performance, at it's slower end, but with the ability to run it in an AR15 size frame.
@@Tex_I_Can Yes! Some loads will 100% do what the 30/30 advertises. Which is of coarse BETTER than it actually does. I think we all know that about the 30/30. It advertises 2400-150 and 2200 with a 170. But in the 20" we are lucky to be mid2200's with a 150. Now this 300 wont shoot heavier than 150. But can send the 150's from 18" barrels past 2400 fps. Mine does!
Added benefit: that hollow point bullet won't plug up with cotton or polyester so should pass all tests.😅 You could also just leave those Accubonds in the box for 10-15 years until the tips fall off. 😅 Happened to me!
