This is a flop. Most speakers do not know what JVP-NPP is or for that matter even the moderator does not know JVP history correctly. It was the 1971 insurrection that JVP initiated as a Marxist party. The second uprising was a direct result of the 1982 Government proscription of the JVP under the pretext that it was involved in communal violence against Tamils which government itself sponsored and initiated. JVP uprising was against suppression of its political rights and then again against India's forceful intervention and imposition of federal system upon Sri Lanka. If you understand these circumstances and later the transformation of JVP into a broader coalition of every strata of the society from peasants to Scientists in the world (Sri Lankan expatriates) you will stand a chance at looking at the election objectively. NPP policy clearly lays out its international policies. These experts appear to be lost in their own interpretations. This is a disservice to the cause.
As a Sri Lankan, I would say I have never seen a Rajini or Bhagya as a political analyst in my country. I don't think either Bhagya or Rajini have read the NPP's foreign policy. There are a few mainstream political analysts in our country, but they are not among them. The BJP (NDA) secured only 36.56% in the general election and lost its single majority in the Lok Sabha. AKD uses a pragmatic political approach rather than a specific socio-political theory.😂

And about Sri Lankan Airlines… everybody can scream privatization but that doesn’t mean there are buyers out there knocking down the door to buy it. SLA’s service has been consistently top notch for many years. It needs the hardware (new planes) to go along with its top notch soft product. This is according to a recent analysis by an airline analyst. To get the hardware, they need to find approx $300m capital infusion. Maybe there is an angel investor out there who is willing to take a flyer 🤞🏽

NPP / JVP success will be definitely because of anti corruption rules & stopping government waste. If they get 2/3, the majority in parliament, I won't be surprised if they bring up a constitution similar to Singapore.
It's simple arithmatic that when you have a three-way election, there can not be 50% or more from one party when all three contenders are equally strong. For India, it's not how Srilanka will progress buy, more concerned about the China factor. What the NPP has pledged is that Srilanka will not take any action, which will be detrimental to India"s security. Srilanka will not make the same mistake twice made during JR Jayawardana era.
These guys do not seem to know what democracy is. When there are three major candidates one gets the majority out of three s/he wins. You cannot count the other two opponents votes and compare it to the winner and say he didn't have majority. Up until this election there were two major candidates in every election so one could get 50%+ votes. This was different. Poor observation of democratic norms on the part of these so called experts.
India’s influence over Sri Lanka will need to change course as new unities forged within shall blunt some of the old tools that were used in the past. Dear Ms. Bagya, Before diving into political analysis, it’s crucial to grasp the broader dimensions that the public considers when discussing political climate in Sri Lanka. Your recent review seemed to miss the nuanced understanding required to assess the country’s complex political landscape. The tone and approach reflected an extremism that could potentially cloud objective judgment, raising questions about your familiarity with the evolving situation on the ground. When participating in discussions of this nature, practicality is key. While you frequently emphasize phrases like "I think," it’s important to move beyond personal perspectives and provide analysis grounded in a thorough understanding of the political dynamics at play. Merely sharing individual opinions can fall short of what informed audiences expect, as it's the depth and quality of the analysis that matters most. There are a few participants in this discussion who bring a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of Sri Lanka's political realities. Their perspectives could serve as valuable examples for refining your own analysis. Furthermore, while addressing regional relationships, such as those with India, it would be beneficial to advocate for constructive engagement rather than dismissive critiques. Encouraging cooperation with the new government can be more productive than perpetuating a divisive narrative. Thank you for your ongoing efforts in sharing your views. I hope to see more balanced and insightful contributions from you in the future.
This discussion may have some inaccuracies, but is not too bad. The first thing that we must wake up to is how small we are compared to India, and how negligible our 22 million population. This does NOT mean that we should try to increase our population! I just got confirmation of the fact that if we submit a Wikipedia reference as part of a TH-cam comment, then it gets taken off automatically. Please listeners/readers look at the Wikipedia entry for the most populous cities in the world. Yes, as Talal says, we have a smaller population (already too many!) than many cities in the world.
The best political party which can unite all Srilankans come to gather free from fear and corruption.Earlier all parties with uneducated members in parliament only wanted to plunder the country’s wealth for themselves and the disparity of wealth between the rich and the poor was getting bigger and bigger because of the corruption at the highest level.
Nowadays, many foreign media, organizations, and think tankers eagerly talk about the presidential election held a few weeks back. Indeed, the people of Sri Lanka elected a president by practicing their democratic rights; hence, the appointment of AKD is a democratic choice of the people of Sri Lanka. Although he got less than 50%, the entire process is democratic and in accordance with Sri Lanka's constitution. So, this is a victory for democracy on the one hand! The AKD-based team indeed has a big challenge as Sri Lanka is an island nation that “officially declared bankruptcy” a few years ago. No burning issues of a country bankrupted by grossly corrupt governance can be solved/fixed overnight or in a short time, but once corruption, bribery, cronyism, etc. are curbed, AKD and the team will be able to do it. In addition, common citizens have high hopes (are optimistic) that the AKD-based team will do it! Fortunately, compared to other countries in South Asia, the average citizen of Sri Lanka is now politically advanced or mature! So, in this context, don't panic, and don't worry because the AKD-based group is of Sri Lankans and educated and love the Motherland, so let them continue because it's too early to talk about “big stories” related to them. “” Your countries also have many burning/pressing issues like poverty, health problems, unemployment, income inequality, crimes, prostitution, etc. Some Asian countries are large in size but poverty is severe, so PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAVE A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY CUM DUTY TO FOCUS ON THESE ISSUES IN YOUR COUNTRIES RATHER THAN WASTING TIME FOR SRI LANKA.”” All the best!
Problem with India is there scared Aragalaya and peoples rights will transfer to India and other south Asian countries for sure it’s a win for people of Sri Lanka.. He will win Majority seats in next election…As a Sri Lankan we are very happy with AKD..
The NPP foreign policy is based on the principle of non-alignment (please study the NPP Manifesto!), and they have clearly stated that their aim is to make a good country free from corruption, bribery, nepotism + cronyism.
