    I have the same radio and was wondering a good way to carry it around, you've given me some ideas. Look forward to seeing your system in action!

    Nice rig. The Armoloq TPA pack frames are excellent. You are right, everyone loves the Yaesu 857-D. Enjoy your radio. 73, W5SWX.

    I’m hoping yeasu brings out a true replacement for the 857d with a sound card in a similar footprint/weight

      I wish too, however why sell people one radio that does it all when they will still buy two seperate radios to do the same thing. Especially would love if they incorporated wiresx in a all band all mode in that form factor, would be a dream

    How l8ng are you able to run that 891 on the 12amp hour battery during a typical pota event?

    • @FITFO
      @FITFO  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Realistically I haven’t ran it out completely yet I usually charge it between outings and have yet to have it die on me even in sub freezing temps when the go pro battery kept dying out.

    Appreciate the look at your rig, nice setup.
    There used to be an observation tower along a volksmarch path near Ramstein. Wish I could be more precise but it's been 20 years. It would allow some serious height for your end-fed as a sloper.

    I was planning on using a bioenno 6ah for this application but looks like it can only draw 6amps & the ft-891 draws 23amps at full power
    The battery you showed looks like a better fit

    • @FITFO
      @FITFO  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I’ve yet to see mine ever get close to that however the 12 ah works perfect all day long. If I was doing overnight trips a solar panel would be nice but for 4-8h trips I have yet to get close to running out of battery even in the cold. I will say the bioenno version of this that is more sqaure than rectangular would be better suited the rectangle shape leaves room in the bag but tends to move around a lot if I don’t have the front compartment full. A square battery in the bottom of the front pouch would still leave plenty of room but wouldn’t bounce around as much.

      I've builded a similar setup ft891 in a 117G bag with a 6x6 adman pouch and use the bioenno 12v 12ah model 1212ad that has a smaller foot print KD9WTH 73

    Nice video. Manpacks I don't do, this process just makes scratches and dings much more prevalent. Sometimes we are not careful and forget, and we are all guilty of that. Just because it is in a case, does not make it immune. I try to keep my equipment mint as long as possible. I think that is extremely important if you ever want to sell it. Just my thoughts. Everybody is free to do what they want.

    • @FITFO
      @FITFO  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I buy most of my stuff used already and am personally more of a utilitarian type person. I like the radio for the capabilities it has and since I don’t plan on reselling it, I look at it more like is the usage I get out of it worth the price. Use it like a tool, take care of it but don’t be afraid to use it.

    • @bradhansen4312
      @bradhansen4312 ปีที่แล้ว

      Analogy, some mechanics work everyday in a shop storing their tools in a chest of drawers, wiped down after every use and we'll cared for. I myself have drug my tools out into the field in the weather and mud and snow to fix heavy equipment. They do the same job as the shop tools but they will get dinged up a whole lot more. It's all about what your end goal is. Loved the video!

    I like the addition of the Tactical Tailor radio pouch on the side. Do you run into any issues with the mic button being pressed when you place it in the pouch?

    • @FITFO
      @FITFO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes when I’m putting it in and out but there’s enough room it doesn’t hold it down another option I could use is putting some steel somewhere attached to the Molle webbing as the back of my hand mic has a magnet on it from the last owner

    • @CW-le8wc

      Loving it still. The radio has survived now, to and back on military air to Germany. On the return trip the rail got bent near vfo knob front side. This was from my duffel bag getting tossed around. I took the rail off the radio and hammered it against some wood carefully to bend it back and good as new! Much better protection than other rails and even with the bent rail it the vfo knob never got hit so it probobly saved my radio.
