This is me trying Indomie for the first time, trying internet noodles was super fun. I also try Teh Botol (the popular Indonesian tea drink). Finally I try tick tac (the Indonesian snack). This was cheap Indonesian food in NYC and delicious, go check it out!

    I love Indomie. Even before watching this video, I've already planned a trip to the grocer to get me 3 packs of those. I usually add ham, egg and a few veggies. Then partner it with a slice of bread. Ultimate comfort food.

    • @unculturedtravel
      @unculturedtravel  ปีที่แล้ว +54

      Wow a slice of bread, is that typical? What type of condiments?

    • @bashersbeware
      @bashersbeware ปีที่แล้ว +37

      @@unculturedtravel just gather any meat you have in your fridge. If you have ham, slice 'em up into 1 inch squares or if you have chicken or ground pork or beef. Whatever. Just Sautee in a pan first then next throw in minced garlic and onion, carrots maybe and cabbage. You need to season these ingredients with a bit of oyster sauce, a bit of soy sauce and some hot sauce. Next you toss in the pre-boiled noodles, sprinkle a bit of sesame oil then finally empty onto the pan the sachets of seasoning ingredients included in the package. Mix well then plate it. On the same pan, cook a scrambled egg then put on top of the plated noodles. Warning though. You'll get addicted and you'll definitely crave this once a week.

    • @bashersbeware
      @bashersbeware ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@unculturedtravel oh and about the bread, just like pasta, you need it to neutralize the overpowering flavor of the noodles. I suggest, cheese wiz, slather generously on two slices of tasty bread. Get a generous scoop of your noodles and put that as filling on your Cheezy slice of bread. Thank me later.

    I ate Indomie almost every day for decades (so many flavors and ways to cook them!), one of my most favorite foods in the world (mie goreng is irreplaceable!)...until I had to stop carbo because of diabetes type II earlier this year. I miss eating them so much, but I also enjoy my new healthier weight. 😊❤ Now, I limit myself to eat them only once in a couple of months.

      I used to eat Indomie almost every day too until my students had a hot debate about whether they can only eat Indomie once a week or once a month. I had to step in and tell them that eating instant noodles too often is not good. I felt that I couldn't tell my students things that I didn't do myself. Hence, I reduce the frequency of eating Indomie.

Now, in the age of TH-cam, every non-Indonesian suddenly worships this cheap meal. And now, I realize, after I tried many other brands, I've never found one as good as Indomie.

    You could also pour some your Tic Tacs on a dish (preferably one with rice) as a crunchy mini-crackers, it's good aside from just snacking on it as is. Also the reason why Corned Beef prevails as the best toppings in here is mainly because they're cheap and widely accessible in small shops or convenience stores everywhere, and they're usually put on shelf next to the Indomie packs. And since corned beef is in a can, they have a long shelf life alongside Indomie packs and eggs rather than buying a fresh meat for toppings. It's perfect for the students like you said as a comfort food or even emergency food

    You can buy the traditional Internet noodle only for less than $1.5 even in big cities in Indonesia. If you buy yourself the ingridients at the supermarket, you can greatly reduce the cost to just less than 0.75$ a bowl.

    I suggest you try Soda Gembira literally means Happy Soda, next time. It is made from soda, milk and coco pandan syrup. A very refreshing beverage that is commonly sold in Warmindo (Warung/Shop Indomie) -- a Warkop version in Indonesia.
    Indomie has a variety of flavor inspired by local foods in Indonesia. More than 30 flavours I think.

    @kipkrakem ปีที่แล้ว +9

    its first counterpart 's been around since the seventies. it's made by a different company and had different flavour. it was quite good, but didnt sell so big as the mie goreng kind. then only about 40 years ago, this particular flavour (that you just tried) was launched and it's been on the top of the instant noodle food chain ever since. young kids and adults all love this product, but adults tend to limit their intake because of health concerns, due to high content of sodium and msg. but the cravings are still there. nobody can deny it 😅

    Got this recommendation from TH-cam after finishing my Indomie rebus inside my home 😂
    Btw, there'a also a more complete variant called "Internetju" = INdomie + TElor (egg) + korNET (corned beef) + keJU (cheese). Traditional Warkop used to serve Burjo (bubur kacang ijo = sweet porridge made from mung beans) & roti bakar (= toasted bread) as well. There's also a talk in Indonesia that a Warkop's Indomie is tastier than a home made Indomie 😅

      @@unculturedtravel I explored your channel, and seems that most of Indonesian food you already tasted are Javanese food (well, Javanese people are everywhere in Indonesia including myself 😅) except for Papeda (from Eastern Indonesia). There's also Padang food which is also very popular in Java (Padang itself is in Western Sumatra). Padang food is also well known for its spicy dishes, so if you like sambal, I believe it would be a good option. There are also Balinese food and Manado food that are quite popular in Indonesia, but might be rarer in US.
      I tried to google Padang food in New York and I found Sky Cafe & Awang Kitchen serve Nasi Bungkus Padang (seems to be rice + rendang - rendang is one of the most popular dishes of Southeast Asia), don't know if there are any other restaurants in New York that also serve Padang food.
