I've always held the opinion that Sonic games had the best sound effects created from the YM2612/PSG (and probably the best of the entire 16-bit generation), and they still hold up today in newer games. I've had the chance to analyze the operator settings on a few effects before, and it takes real imagination and skill to create something that fits so well, even if you know the synthesizer like the back of your hand. 8-bit sound effects, though? I think the NES Mega Man series is the best there.
I've actually been waiting for this and never thought it'd see the day. I was very curious specifically the drowned sound because it's the best sounding one imo.
Can I make a request. Can you do oscilloscope deconstructions of Wolverine: Adamantium Rage(SNES), Earthworm Jim(SNES), Time Cop(SNES), Green Lantern(SNES, Unreleased), Waterworld(Genesis, Unreleased), Akira(Genesis, Unreleased), and Outlander(Genesis), and The Flintstones(SNES).
Why does it seem the noise channel of the PSG seem like it can do more when the Genesis uses it over the SMS? Is the extra processing power used to make it do more than it can on the SMS alone?
@@matthewbolf7353 Seems like that one is the sound effect right after what I hear when I click on the timestamp. The one it starts on I think is the blades turning in Wing Fortress.
4:37 - Sonic really wanted to rev up his spin dash for the demonstration.
Sonic 2 always had the best sound effects of the trilogy!
Particularly this one: 4:06
And this one! 4:37
The second one gives me a headache
Poor Sonic 3.
@ Don’t get me wrong, though! Sonic 3 still has excellent SFX as well!

Most of the sound effects are similar to Sonic 1.
the Emerald Get Jingle.... is it a sound effect, or can be considered it's own song?
4:05 What is this sound used for?
Super Sonic Transformation
