Hey Jeff, great job with the refurb. I think your float issue could be just that it is in the tank "sideways" and as the float tries to rise up, it is hitting the side of the tank. You seem to be good at taking that thing in and out so should be no trouble to fix. Try installing the float mechanism so that the float part has space to move freely in the tank. If you do this with enough gas in the tank, you'll probably be able to feel the float floating against the sides as you slide it in, instead of it hanging all the way down toward the bottom of the tank.
I don't know if anybody said anything to you about this because it's probably somewhere in the comments, but proper valve gapping can also cause this problem or should I say improper valve gapping. Intake should be at 1 3000 and exhaust should be at 1 4000 You'd be surprised how many of these come from the factory with this problem

Fuel float may just be in wrong. Usually can go in many ways but only 1 is the correct way to allow it to maneuver.
You are probably right! I actually sold it shortly after making this video though so never got a chance to check. New owner may have an easy fix on their hands.
You have an odd automatic choke on your carb. It is filled with wax and has it's own heating element. This may be why you cannot rev it too quickly after startup. With the bad fuel problem sorted out, it might behoove you to clean the spark plug and check the gap. I have one like it that I paid $100 for as a basket of parts. It is together now but the wiring harness seems to have been made up of about 4 or 5 different ones and it is a real bear to correct as none of the plug ends fit together or if , by some odd chance they do, the wires do not match what should be there. Just thought I'd let you know that things could be worse. Be good now.

as you don't know how to adjust valve clearances, all things considered you didn't do a bad job. part of the fun is doing it.

Intake manifold sucks false air in, thats why the idle isnt consistent, after that adjust the idle screw a bit more. Thats all
try to remove the hoose from catalyst and test drive it. i had the same problem whit my moped booging on full trottle. if it works just take
self fusing tape i think its called. and plug the hose from the airbox to the exhaust.
you should also try to get the right fuel air mixture
Did you check the Springs I'm not sure how these work but I would be checking the throttle control linkage I don't know if they work on cables or what all I know is that that idle getting really high has nothing to do with bad gas I would be looking at a throttle control linkage or I don't know what these have built-in Governors like lawn mowers do

About the melted wires: Just guessing that since the kick starter was broken, somebody tried jumpstarting it from a car.
You can jump them off a car but with the car turned off I have been working on scooters for many years

The fuel filter looked like it was installed backwards

también tengo un desperfecto que me vino de fabrica las luces del tablero que te indican que todas las luces están encendidas derecha o izquierda no me funciona aunque las luces y están encendida tú nos puedes saber si las llevas encendidas o apagadas porque las que te indican eso en el tablero no encienden como puedo hacer para solucionarlo y estoy viendo que en esta tao tao es lo mismo solamente funciona la derecha izquierda y luces altas no funcionan

Hola amigos acabo de adquirir una y quiero hacer un cambio de aceite pero no encuentro el filtro del aceite no sé si este modelo contiene algún o Alguien podría decirme dónde está Porque he visto el manual y sólo me aparece filtro de aire no de aceite

A couple off pointers!
When pouring oil from the kind off bottle you have in the bike there at the end, they are meant to be used the opposite way from what almost everyone does.
And i´m willing too bet Guude´s balls :=) that you probably use it the wrong way too.

Only have or used old cans with bendable pipes myself so not 100% sure about this.
