  • Pro Tools Basics: is Your Session Playing Too Fast or Too Slow?
    In this video, we talk about what may be the cause for a Pro Tools session that plays back either too fast or too slow. Hope this helps someone out there!
    [Also, sorry my video is a bit washed out - I'm not a visual person and couldn't get it to balance properly!]

    Your analogy of samples to frame-rate is a really good way of explaining how DAWs can play a higher sample rate *audio file* in a lower sample-rate *session* and plays it slower. 👍 😊

    That's a great tip. I used to have trouble a lot in earlier versions of PT with things not converting properly.

    I having a similar problem.. I can hear my session slowing down or speeding back up during playback (inconsistent tempo).. however I’m just using virtual instruments to make a beat!.. Any idea what may be causing this issue?

    My issue is I have a project that suddenly changed sample rates because I changed playback device, it’s playing ay 44.1 when the entire project was 96.9 now I can’t get it to play normally again.

      I was able to go into backup files folder and select a previous version of the project that helped get it back but there should be an option. Logic is so much more user intuitive. Pro tools should emulate everything Logic does along with what they already have.

      Do you mean 96k? Pro tools usually won't switch your sample rate, that's usually an issue on your hardware end. To change your session sample rate in pro tools you actually have to purposely do a new save of the session in the new sample rate. What interface are you using, and what system are you on? I'm guessing it's a configuration issue with your interface. And the logic thing is interesting. I recently learned some of the basics on logic with a private instructor, and I think logic is great! But there are definitely features that pro tools has that a one man band making music wouldn't need, but are essential for a pro audio engineer working with a client that needs to keep the pace and workflow going - and some of those features just aren't available in logic. So I used to think it was a bit more arbitrary that pro tools is what's used in commercial studios, but I'm seeing some reasons why now that I dig into other DAWs. But, with that said, other DAWs are perfect for other scenarios, it just depends on what you're doing and what your goals are. Pro Tools definitely has a ton of customization that most people probably don't need or want to worry about, but we often want that when working in a commercial studio with clients.

    So my session vocals are going really fast and the beat isn’t I’m trying to make my vocals go back to normal they sound so sped up how do I fix this

    • @CatoNoise
      @CatoNoise  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried re-importing the vocals, and making sure you hit copy or convert, so it uses the proper sample rate? I think I talked about that in this video, but I'm not sure.

      @@CatoNoise I tried changing sample rate on one and it worked but when I try and import the session data for the other I need a specific sample rate how do you find specific ones?

    • @CatoNoise
      @CatoNoise  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truevision3153 you don't. You just go to the import audio dialogue, find the file you want to import, and then choose copy or convert. Dont choose "add". Then pro tools with convert the audio file properly upon import
