The crime is using campaign money as hush money to hide information that would have swayed the campaign and then shuffling records to try to hide it. Paying her for silence isn't illegal, using campaign money is. So is doing it to hide information that would sway the vote. If only they were this aggressive about lies against opponents. That alone would do so much to clean up elections.

Let's use this metric on all our leaders. In the unlikely event that would occur our court system would come to a stand still. One thing that anti trumpers do not consider is that these charges were brought on by individuals that are given the blessing by more powerful entities to investigate and bring charges. The indictments are recorded and the courts mince though the evidence. If Biden, pelosi, Schumer, schiff, nadler...etc. were investigated then we would see wrong doing because everybody knows they got part of their wealth through illegal and unethical means, but there are no DAs brave enough to bring up any type of charges or investigations because they are off limits. Now menendez was caught in a bribery scandal, with evidence (including gold bars in his home) and nothing came if it because he is on the right team. That should show you how powerful these people are, and how they will use their power against their enemies. Don't you ever be part of that group because because nobodies would be erased from existence. Why should they yield so much though? The power is now being used to protect themselves rather than the constituents.
