    mặt dày interesting translation, in English we say da dày which means thick skin. The meaning is similar to how you described it tho.

      not really, thick skin means more of not getting hurt by criticism, rather than not being shy

    It seems like words that begin with the letter v, the v sometimes sounds like v, and sometimes y. How do you know which one to use?

      It’s a dialectal difference. In the North, they always say it as V. In the rural South, people always say it as y. In Sài Gòn, you have some words that people say with a v and others with a y. Generally, if you learn the Saigon dialect, you should use the v. I use the y sound for v most of the time, but some words like, “và” and “bởi vì,” I would usually use the v sound. In load words, we only say the v as a v sound, like in chiếc va li. You might hear people from very rural parts of the South say this as “ya li,” but most people will only use the v. People understand you either way, though. I hope that this helped! (P.S. Central dialects vary a lot).

    Nổ means exaggerate; not showing off.

    • @LearnVietnameseWithSVFF
      @LearnVietnameseWithSVFF  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi K. Ng, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the meaning of the word "nổ". While "nổ" can indeed mean "exaggerate", it can also have other meanings depending on the context in which it is used. In the context of showing off, it can mean "to show off" or "to boast". It's important to understand the various nuances of Vietnamese slang and how they can be used in different situations. I hope you found this video helpful in learning some common Vietnamese slang expressions.
