Honestly I thought Guga was a cute teddy bear, but seeing him comparable to size next to these sumos is terrifying and unexpected asf
If I remember correctly, he is almost as tall as Nick DiGiovanni who is well over 6'3"

@@JTBassvocals I'm pretty sure Guga's actually like 5 foot 8. Maxthemeatguy is around 5 foot 8 and you can see they're basically the same height in this video.
Also, if you look at any of the videos hes done with Nick, Guga's way shorter than him.
How is it terrifying? Sumo wreslers aren't enormous, they're usually under 6 feet, just extremely heavy.

NO WAY, GUGA!! You met the legendary Konishiki?! I'm so jealous! He was the heaviest rikishi of all time, nicknamed the "dump truck" and kicked butt back in the day! He is such an awesome guy, too. It's such a shame he never got to make yokozuna, the highest rank in professional sumo. Sumo is such a fascinating sport and I implore all of you to check it out. It's been gaining in popularity especially after the Sanctuary show dropped on Netflix! Thanks for the video, Guga!
Yeah, Konishiki got completely robbed. He won two back-to-back tournaments and the committee refused his deserved promotion. It was absolutely unfair.

@@shadowtheimpureif you watch sumo long enough, you can see how preferentially the native rikishi get treated. The best was when The Great Hakuho did a banzai with the crowd. The JSA hated that. He got in actual trouble.

It's really nice that it's lately been breaking out of the stereotype of "oh they just eat a lot, haha fat". These dudes are RIDICULOUSLY well-trained athletes. I was amazed when I learned the first time just what they go through.
Back in the day, when we got sumo on sports TV, I was a big fan! This sport and everything around it is great.

As I’ve always said since I started cooking professionally at 15. Food is the greatest international language. It doesn’t matter where someone’s from, or what language they speak. If you take the time to make food with emotion and appreciation, the person eating it will be able to understand and appreciate every little sentiment put into it through the flavor. No matter how pretty or plain it is. It’s the greatest gift you can give to another ❤ so great to see such amazing content and different people with amazing and different personalities and backgrounds to come together and share a meal like this

I'm in awe of this episode. I've been a fan of Sumo for a few years now, and I'm a bit astounded that you got to meet a Sumo legend like Konishiki. That man went up against the likes of Akebono, Chiyonofuji, Musashimaru and many other greats. I'm glad they enjoyed the meat Fiesta you assembled for them!

@Dephire I'm right there with you! And I'm sad he retired, but after hearing the assessment he had with his coach, it only made sense. I enjoyed the times I got to watch his matches here on TH-cam, though.
Interesting fact for those who don't know: Konishiki [outside of his legitimate sumo career] also played the bathhouse customer in Tokyo Drift.

Sumo traditionally eat a meat stew called "chankonabe" in Japanese...you can get it at some Japanese restaurants in the States, and once you try it, it's easy to see how you could get to the size of a sumo wrestler. That stuff is gooooood.
But even sumo need some variety in their diet, and that's where Guga comes in.
Yeah, absolutely right. Chanko is pretty healthy too. Too bad it hasn't caught on here yet. Modified, it actually makes for a pretty good bodybuilding fuel without all the powders and supps.

There is a whole lot humanity in that opening shot. Guga might be the safest person in the world with all that security surround him. Easily my favorite video of yours yet, bruh. Well freaking done.
Love the fact that Guga used the oven. If you aren't doing a BBQ competition, once the smoke is done, finish the meat in the oven. Heat is consistent, a stall won't happen, and you save pellets/wood. Love the mango trees, which reminds me of an uncle's farm with so many fruit trees and I would just walk around picking fruit and eating. Very fun episode!
I do it so I can sleep after smoking brisket all night.
The oven has nothing to do with a stall happening or not. Getting past the stall is one reason why we wrap. Unwrapped meat can stall no matter what it is cooked on.
Aside from that, the oven is a good place to finish a wrapped BBQ meat. The only caveat is that your house will smell like BBQ for at least 24 hours.
