- The final part of the Rick Allen interview about the loss of his arm. This was a half hour programme called Fighting Back shown on BBC1 on the 19th of August 1992 in the UK. A program that each week Lynn Redgrave talked to a celebrity about a serious illness they have suffered.
GREAT videos of Rick!!! He's a hero! I'm a drummer myself, and I lost my right arm back in '02. Thanx to Rick I kept on playing my drums! I even got a phone call from him a few months after losing my arm, and he was such a great guy to talk to!

I've seen them perform in 1988, I think. Read about the one-armed drummer, saw and enjoyed the show, and only afterwards realized that during the performance I didn't have a clue. Great show. As a man, world famous in his late teens, made enough money to be comfortable for the rest of his life, and now he's doing volunteer work. I salute, you, sir!

When he says he likes the way he is it made me smile because I saw this article that said Ozzy called him a freak. It broke my heart because he went on to say he probably was a freak but now hearing he's happy with it just makes me happy because I think he's so cool and it's inspiring that he's not letting someone's awful comment pull him down. He deserves all the love and respect in the world.

4:36 there’s something truly amazing about meeting someone who not only looks like you but understands you someone who you can talk about your disability with and not fear any judgment or reticule people like him make me proud to have been born disabled having him in my community is an absolute blessing.

Ive seen Def Leppard twice and if you have never seen them in person Id recommend to anyone. They sound just as good live as they do on CD. Joe can still hit the notes, phil and rick S are still amazing on guitar and the Thunder God of course just gives you goosebumps when he plays. GO SEE THEM.

Definetely an Inspiration...when i got into Def Leppard,in 1987,i couldn't believe his story..then i saw him,widly and proudly playing his drum,and i thought:Wow,this man is incredible,so much Force and Spirit...and thanx to the guys who waited for him,D.L. have gone through many things like a real family,and this is something unvaluable,Great Rick Allen,Great Def Leppard!
This guy is a stud!!!at first when this happened and I was younger I hated it becausr I felt he was going to create some very special music because of how incredible of a drummer he was....little did I know that he would go on to indeed do just that he never overplayed back then but instead played what the song needed....to say he is an inspiration is an understatement this man is an inspiration to us all not just people who've been through similar situations but anytime we feel like maybe giving up because it gets tuff all we need to do is think of how it mustve been for him....thank u Rick Allen for your devotion to music Id hate to think of Def Leopard without you

I went to a Def Leppard signing once in the 90's.
And I couldn't say anything to the guys, just push my little CD for a signing. But at the end Rick Allen
smiled at me. And I'll never forget it. They needed to hold the CD so he could sign it.

I admire this man so much! He could have given up, sunk into a deep depression, become addicted to drugs or alcohol, but instead he’s worked hard at his recovery and is doing so much for charity. Rick, you’re amazing!
I so agree with that. I had no idea that his right arm was injured too. They don't say that in the movie. He is also really cute and sweet and has a smile, grin that you can't help smiling at!

Love Def Leppard and have tremendous respect for Rick and his comeback. It was certainly against all odds he would get back on the stage with the band and play great. The one thing that bugs me about the interview, is that they glossed over what really happened in the accident. He was trying to overtake/pass a Jaguar that had passed him a few moments before (hence the speeding), and as he hit a sharper then expected corner the car rolled and you know the rest. Add to this, it was New Years Eve, the early 80s, Rock Star, etc.. and I'm sure he had something in his system making him make not the best decisions. This doesn't make his loss any less tragic and in fact showed the world the strength he has within himself. Thanks.. :)
Robert S. It was an Alfa Romao not a Jag. And drink driving was still illegal back then and the was never any suggestion of that. It was afternoon on new years Eve, so it was likely that he was heading out to a party or something but not that he would have been out already

im happy rick is happy with the way he is now with one arm ,...trully remarkable how well he thinks and ;laughs at ,much well adjusted individual would not want to use an artificial arm either i would think happy he was able to save the other arm god definately with him on that and even just surviving he priorities changed he says im sure it did very sincere and caring kind mellow person.... donna varall 4/29/17
