    Sam, glad you weren't hurt. Don't stand down range anymore.
    Don, might be time to pin down the wedges. Back to the fabrication table

    nice video. i've just have a 27 ton single wedge craftsman. i like the lift and table on your splitter. i use my little John Deere and bucket to move mine around. works ok, but a lift and table would be nice. that exploding round got my attention. i have some maple that has some limbs taken off and it moans and groans and pops when it comes to one of those but never exploded jumped that way. Thanks for showing. glad no one was hurt. stay safe

    That was crazy! Glad no one was hurt! Another reason I like the design of my All Wood splitter, it takes a little longer to change but no way the wedge is hopping off like that. Definitely a great clip to make a short out of!

    I noticed no safety glasses were worn. That could have been worse if a piece came flying up and hit one of you in the eye. Hope Sam is ok I bet he will be sore for a couple of days. I wear prescription safety glasses all the time and saved my eyes a few times.

    Whoever owns that wood spliter needs to fix it so the 6 way can't jump off like that. Someone could been seriously hurt. No job is so important that we can't do our job safely. Needs to be red tag until fix. Have a great day be safe.

    I’ve had more than a few rounds explode like that on my Wolfe Ridge. It’s always on a knot or twisted section of trunk. Maple is notorious for it but oak crotches build energy like that also.

    • @OutsidewithScheib
      @OutsidewithScheib  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this was a first for me i have had them pop but not explode like that.

    • @grizzlywoodservices4825
      @grizzlywoodservices4825 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OutsidewithScheib my best guess is that part of it may be that your 4 way is free floating. At least for me it’s usually the chunks that go over the 4 way that go flying since my 4way is pinned. Just a guess though, might unpin it and see if I get the same result

  • @megamike4357
    @megamike4357 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a good 30 minutes of work! Even with the shoulder situation it was very efficient. I personally have founs ash to be the most explosive wood whils splitting.

    I heard you tried to split a new type of wood species: "dynamite wood".
    Suggestion:
    Send Chris (In The Woodyard) a whole cord of that stuff to split, it might wake up his viewers with something new. Thereafter, he'd be wearing a shirt that says:
    ---cut
    ---buck
    ---split/explode
    ---pile
    ---repeat

    Looking at the 6 way wedge, the lower part of the X appears to be welded on incorrectly. The result is the wood passing through lifts the wedge as the attack angle is reversed...

    It looks like Sam should be feeding more logs when it gets down to the last one instead of throwing logs. Looks like there was too much down time in between logs. That is if you want to make the best of your time.

  • @adrianphillips6238

    Hi Scheib, that was explosive. Did that because the round/knot is really dry?

  • @iancracknell1379
    @iancracknell1379 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's a shot of the pile near the end of the video. Should of moved the machine back a few feet and let the machine push the wood off the end of the table into a pile. What was the purpose of all that tearing and tossing?

  • @robkerwood6555
    @robkerwood6555 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad nobody got seriously hurt. Why don't you use the next round to push the previous pieces out of the wedge rather than pulling every split out of the wedge?

    looking good Scheib, def think Sam's yard is coming along, just a question about the 6 way, I saw on a few logs the 6 way needed to go higher on the fixed single wedge to center on the log, but instead you lowered it so the top of the 6 way was flush with the fixed single wedge, was that for stability to nothing got damaged?
