A deep South southerner, I’ve lived in three southern states, visited the others. Congratulations and thank you, ladies, for speaking out. Yet listening to you makes me so sad, like I want to cry sad. I’ve yet to hear any former Maga Republican face the whole of what really happened since Nixon, and earlier, since 1965. Books and articles, not mine, have now been written on this. When he signed the Voting Rights Act after signing the Civil Rights Act the year before, Lyndon Johnson said “Well, we’ve lost the South for a hundred years.” And so it has been and is. So many southern Republicans don’t appear to realize they are the flip side of the time when The Solid South meant solidly Democratic. For a hundred years, since Lincoln, in rebellion against what Lincoln did, the South became 100% Democratic Party. Again, in response to what a president did exactly a hundred years later, in 1964-65, the South flipped. It was never about policy or “fiscal conservatism and small government” as shown by the Nixon-Ford recession, the late 80s Bush I recession, the Bush II 2008 crash, and the Trump financial idiocy of adding two trillion to the national debt. In each case Carter, Clinton, Obama, and Biden pulled the nation out of those recessions and slumps. That’s history. It’s 2024. I hope you are showing Lyndon was wrong by 40 years. All I’m saying is face all the facts. Otherwise you come across disingenuous.
Thank you for seeing the truth and knowing your history. I am a dual citizen German/American living in this beautiful country for 33 years now. Given the history of my country when I came to the states I was shocked how religious and conservative Americans were. That is not or was not as they represented themselves to the world! I could never understand how republicans were seen as fiscally responsible contrary to the evidence! And experiencing my very own Kristallnacht in 2025 was heart wrenching! The continued assault for 9 years on truth, the law and the constitution is exhausting! So thank you and your fellow republicans for seeing the light! Not to say that Democrats are without fault, far from it! Thank you thank, thank you for giving me hope that I don’t have to experience Hitler 2.0 ❤🙏
Thank you ladies! Lovely to hear from you and so glad you are with us. I am a Democrat but grew up in a Republican family and the party is unrecognisable to me so I can only imagine how you must feel. But we are are a very big tent and you are more than welcome. ❤ Our arms are open. 😊
I’m a bred, born, raised conservative who walked away from the Republican party, because of Trump’s vile and vitriolic rhetoric. I am utterly disgusted with republican politicians who didn’t have the decency and backbone to put Trump in his place by impeaching him after January 6. I voted for Clinton (held my nose to do so) and Biden (was more than happy to do so), and will be voting for Harris (ecstatic to do so). Voted for Beto and will be voting for Allred. Will NOT vote for the Trumpian jerk who was gerrymandered into my district, but will vote for whomever shows up as his opponent! Harris 2024!!💙💙💙💙🎉
So nice to hear from you ladies. I’ve listened to many Republican Trump voters talk about why they can’t vote for him or other Republicans, this time, and in some cases anymore. Very few have been women out of all the Republicans for Harris channels on youtube. I thought that that was really odd and want to know why men seem more willing than women to speak out. I grew up in a family of liberals and all the women were very outspoken, and the men tended to be a little more reserved. Hell, I remember when my aunt was a delegate for RFK for the 68 Democratic Convention in Chicago, then after he was assassinated became a delegate for McCarthy at the convention. Anyway, Republican women are typically reserved while the men were the outspoken ones for all of my lifetime. My first election to cast a vote for President was 1976. Republican women need to have their voices heard too. Speak up, ladies. It’s your country and your life too. For you who have become registered Democrats, welcome to the Party. It’s a very broad and deep tent. I fall somewhere to the left of the conservative democrats and slightly to the right of the most left. (I grew up in Nebraska.)
I think women are afraid to speak up openly because of their husbands, they might not be on board with it so don’t want to start any issues with them but men don’t really feel that way imo
I’ll second the recommendation for Ground News. Being able to see how a particular story is being presented across the political spectrum, and who is deciding how that story is presented to their readership is a real eye opener as a news source.
I’m so impressed with each of you. Thank you for your courage in speaking out. God bless you all. I’m a Democrat in Kentucky so I feel your pain being surrounded by people who are totally dedicated to Trump. Stay safe and stay strong. 💙 You give me hope for a Harris victory.
This was refreshing to see your podcast. Thank you to all of your stories. I am a career democrat and almost all of my family is republican. They are so bought into Trump being the best candidate. I too don’t understand why they cannot see the track record and also the blatant disregard of that party and what it has come to be. I am working on being able to share information with them but it is really hard with one of my adult children.
I am so grateful my daughter is a Democrat. I can't imagine how disappointed I would be if anyone in my immediate family supported Trump. I wish you luck. I think a great many Trumpers have mental health, alcohol, & addiction issues.
I grew up in Iowa in a Republican family. I really knew nothing and thought Democrats were just unionists that wanted me to pay dues as a teenager. I was very naive and never saw racism because everyone was white in Iowa at the time. Trump could easily scare people into believing his lies. It wasn't until I left Iowa and went to Australia teaching that I learned how important unions are and how the wealthy control the right and mostly care less for people. I would never vote Republican again. I remember my father voting against Barry Goldwater because he thought he was dangerous. I wonder what my parents would make of Trump if they were alive. My elderly brother was sucked in by the NRA and Trump. He said, "but Trump was so good for the economy." He would sit there and listen to all the voice mails on his phone left by the GOP supporters. So sad. Not voting or writing someone in is always the waste of a vote. Always ask the doubters if they have fact checked and if they are thinking for themselves. Most of the people I knew were just indoctrinated from birth.
Hi Dorothy, Aussie here. We have such a different political scene here to the US don't we. I wish there were aspects of our system that the US could adopt .... Such as preference voting ..... When we vote we have a kaleidoscope of choice based on our values. We can vote for parties that won't win but they have alignment with our values. Our vote will count all through to the last two candidates. But as the first preference vote also available for people to see we get a sense of where our fellow voters are thinking and that tempers our concept of voting tribe. I am very left on many issues but conservative on a few certain points too. So I like that most political views are represented in our system but the centre gets the job of running the country. So even if I think radical left changes would benefit our country so much ....I can wait til the centre gets to where I am eventually. My parents may vote differently to me because if the centre right gets in .. I know we will be centre left again in a term or two. I won't have to live under a far right weirdo regime. Democrats are more conservative of our right wing parties ..... So I live in a radical left utopia already. Lol ..... I love when Maga says the demos are radical left .... Maga has never seen left let alone radical left. I am of the opinion the USA needs to radically change it's political system. Perhaps starting from local government elections make them compulsory and preference voting. Allow for diversity of political parties but see two main political parties governing most of the time. I wish you the best.
@@zoeolsson5683 Yes, I appreciate compulsory and preferential voting, but I have heard those on the right saying perhaps it isn't necessary. Also LNP would get rid of Medicare and other environmental protections in a heartbeat if they thought they could. Malcolm Fraser restricted bulk billing but they scrapped it because it was unpopular. It is so sad to see the long-game to steal democracy in America. Democrats have been asleep at the wheel.
Being independent increases the risk of a republican being elected president. Also it's close to 100% certain that a republican or democrat will be in control of a legislative body. House and senate rules are such that the majority party gets to elect a leader for that legislative body. That means it will be a democrat or republican because they are the major parties. The constitution specifies only a presidential candidate with the majority electoral college vote wins. If independent or third party candidates cause a plurality vote, the house members decide who won with one vote per state, not per representative. Most states are red, so the republican candidate will very likely win. Being independent or third party, especially this election, is the worst defense against Trump and the republicans from taking and keeping power.
