We All Deserve To Belong (with Dr. Nichole Argo)
It’s our last podcast episode of the year, so today we wanted to leave you with a broader view of community and our shared humanity. We talked to Dr. Nichole Argo, a social psychologist and the author of The Belonging Barometer: The State of Belonging in America. She’s also the host of a new podcast called Reimagining Us (www.nextchapterpodcasts.com/reimaginingus) .
But before Rachel’s chat with Dr. Nichole, she and Jasmine did cover some of the more unsettling news of the week - like the threat of RFK Jr. revoking the polio vaccine (really, polio??), TIME choosing Trump as their “person of the year,” and ABC settling their defamation lawsuit with Trump for 15 million dollars.
We’re all worried about what will happen over the next four years, and with good reason. But the first rule of resisting authoritarianism, as seen in Timothy Snyder’s On Tyranny, is “don’t obey in advance.” We’re disheartened by the preemptive obedience we’re seeing (we’re looking at you, ABC) and you can rest assured that here at Red Wine & Blue, we’re doing no such thing.
Resistance, however, doesn’t mean widening the divisions between ourselves and our fellow Americans. It’s no secret that political polarization is worse than it’s been in a long time. Dr. Nichole says that in the past, we used to see disagreements as a positive thing - prompting introspection and innovation. Now, many Americans see any disagreement as evidence that their opponent is an evil villain who must be defeated. If we want that to change, we have to be a part of the solution too.
It won’t be easy, and none of us will be able to manage it all the time. But Dr. Nichole reminded us that building bridges doesn’t mean obeying in advance. We can stand firm on our values and try to reconnect with our neighbors’ humanity.
It’s a real tightrope walk, but we can’t think of anyone more equipped to pull it off than suburban women.
If you want to support Red Wine & Blue as we build community and stand up against extremism in 2025, please donate here (redwine.blue/year-end-giving-2024/?Fundraising&SoSha&region=National&oa_audience=&oa_medium=SoSha&oa_source=multiple&oa_content=&oa_campaigntype=Fundraising) . The current problems those places you mentioned are experiencing are because of the current residents not yt people from 40 plus years ago. Minority poverty can't chase yt people around and expect them to fund their lives and send their kids to bad and violent schools that came with demographic change. The residents there now generate no tax revenue and because of that the infrastructure crumbles. No one has a right to make yt people stay in bad neighborhoods to financial support others and provide other races kids better schools at the detrimental affect to their kids

Moderate democrats are why we lost. I gave $3000 to the democrats. The fix was in, thanks to Manchin and Sinema --- supported by dark money, to blunt the progressive ideas pitched in bills. Go full progressive, like what Warren and Sanders are pitching and we will win.

The second worse thing about roe vs wade, is that it gave women a legal, destructive option to adoption. That doctor should have arranged a legal adoption, instead of breaking the law, and risking his profession and her health.

RE: 35:48 "we have to be curious." Toxic/Evil white man here, ready to be scolded by women obviously much smarter than myself. I think I can shed some light as to why the Democratic party lost so miserably. #1 inflation #2 immigration #3 culture wars #4 "The Democrats abandoned the working class" - Bernie Sanders (this relates to #3) What do I mean by "culture wars?" Republicans have successfully painted the Democrats as "woke weirdos" who only care about DEI, Cancel Culture, LGBTQIA+, and Gender Pronouns ("Kamala is for They/Them, Trump is for You"). Meanwhile Democratic Hollywood has been ATTACKING MEN from 2016-2024. So young men 18-26 have spent their entire adult lives being verbally assaulted by Left-wing media. These men got tired of being attacked by the Left, so they got pushed to the Right. Evidence of Hollywood's attack on men can be found in - the recent failure of all Marvel movies (except Deadpool) - Rings of Power (how to you screw up Lord of the Rings? Like WTF Hollywood) - Disney Star Wars - Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny - Velma - She Hulk - The Witcher season 3 - The Wheel of Time - Dr Who - Peter & Wendy - new Snow White In Hollywood, "Male and Pale is Stale" and South Park criticized Kathleen Kennedy for wanting to "Put a chick in [everything] and make it gay!" If you need more proof how badly Hollywood has been attacking men, a couple youtubers talk about it: The Critical Drinker, and Nerdrotic. The Dems have alienated and attacked men for so long that 74,000,000 people preferred a pathological lying felon who tried to overthrow Democracy.

In order to fight this, we need to understand how and where it’s happening and how to talk with the young men in our lives about it." The issue with this statement is its mostly past tense. This already happened over a decade now and we are seeing the fruits of it now, chat forums and video games were already completely captured years ago with little to no resistance from the other side. I honestly don't see a way out of this for the left, it would require such a radical shift in such a short time which I just don't believe will happen.

Gamergate wasn't about men ganging up on women. It was about corrupt insiders using feminism to get their little friend group jobs, money, and power. I wish my fellow women wouldn't just fall for these scammers who use identity politics and pseudo-feminisim to try to get to the top without a care for real women.
