Got a question if you don't mind. I have a 2008 Sporster 1200 low, if I put 8" apes on it would the stock cables work or would they need to be replaced?
it is becoming very common these days to file rings. .013 it very tight and can cause problems when the motor gets hot. .016 is way safer and will run the same as the tighter gaps. tatro
in the real world it doesn't matter because the rings rotate around 30-60rpm deppending on your combination. on the start up it helps to not have the ring leakage on the 1st start up. it does matter on a kicker bike. tatro
@@TatroMachine just so you know: i had a small engine motorcycle i think it was a kawasaki 1971 175cc and the piston had a small dowell pin in the ring land groove and the rings has a small cut out on the end gap so the ring could not rotate ...
I stuck a flat file in between the leaf of my dining room table and was successful at filing my ring gaps. Wife loved it....
the side of a rusty part like your trailer will work too if that is all you got to work with.

@@TatroMachine sounds like you've actually "been there done that"? LOL

I haven't seen anyone gap rings in 45 years. The rings always came big and I had to gap at 13 thousands. 👍

@@TatroMachine Thank you I remember that now. I was my 63 Triumph Bonneville. I love the way it would pull the tire out from under me.

question: do the rings rotate ever in the bore over time ??? if yes then the end gap location will change... so who cares where the end gap is ???
