    Hi all, a bit of a late upload this week because Tuesday was my birthday so I took some time off. I am now the big 22 which means I have no more age milestones to look forward to! Hooray... Anyways I hope you enjoy listening to my take on the "why I quit WoW" videos, as I am not your average FF14 story enjoyer and have a bit of a unique perspective. Thanks for watching :)

    One often overlooked fact is that while old raid tiers are no longer relevant gear wise, you can go back to any of the old raid tiers and play them similarly to how they were when they were current content by using the minimum item level sync. If you're here for the challenge, there's tons of content you can get into.

    • @XxTaiMTxX
      @XxTaiMTxX 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And to some, this old content is STILL relevant! There are titles and equipment to earn that you can't get anywhere else for Glamour purposes. These titles and equipment signify to anyone who has been playing a while what you had to do in order to get it.
      It doesn't hurt that the equipment itself makes you look pretty awesome, either. Even if it isn't "current endgame" gear.

      @@Wombeyy From what I've seen, people are always biased to their own games, as a ffxiv player I've never wanted to be biased as I just assumed WoW had a equivalent to ultimate. But hearing from vets of WoW who have done ultimates they seem to always say ultimate is on another level. I've done ultimates myself and after looking up Mythic gameplay idk... it looks more like a 4th fight savage level difficulty.

    So I was in a top 50 US 200 world guild during wotlk and cata. I quit hardcore raiding after cata and with every wow xpac I buy it, try to commit to a more casual raiding guild/schedule and I'll be into it for the first tier of the xpac. Then.. the reality of the grind for resources in modern wow hits me and I give up on it before the second raid drops. Every time.
    I've heard a lot of talk about ff14 in passing, but I remember playing shortly after ARR came out, I played the tank class and the monotonous nature of any tanking class in the early game combined with the slow GCD made me give up.
    On the advice of a coworker and being on a classic final fantasy kick at the moment, I just picked up the game, initially with the free trial and now after playing again and watching these types or videos, I am extremely excited to get deep into this game. I picked possibly thr best and worst time to start playing (leaning toward worst with these queue times) as endwalker just came out. I refuse to boost so I do kind of wish I was already max level so I could be into the current shit with the crowd but I'm happy with the game I'm playing now. I'm looking forward to actually investing in raiding again because of the presence of pros and lack of cons you listed here. I'm fucking stoked

    The gearing being so straight forward in FFXIV tends to be a criticism of the game, but I also only find it as a positive.

    • @tomasmyskin
      @tomasmyskin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@kiiturii I've seen the complaint enough to know it's not uncommon. It ranges from gearing being too straightforward, to substats being meaningless, crit being too important, lack of skill expression due to homogenization and inability to equip weapons other than the main one for your job. I personally don't mind it, i can see how it can be a bit dull, but i also realize that the price to pay for a more complex system would be balance. I also don't really care if my class underperforms, but lack of balance often means illusion of choice, skills that are never used, nerds obsessing over a meaningless meta.

    • @kiiturii
      @kiiturii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    • @jamvng
      @jamvng 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      it's a positive thing if you don't care about having to worry too much about gearing and just want to raid or play the game. It's a negative for people looking for more complexities in their gearing. It can be good or bad.

    • @hkoizumi3134
      @hkoizumi3134 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      They only see the negative because they don't understand the concept of Job system. It is meant to gear you faster so that you are encouraged to move on to gear your next jobs. By the time you have geared all the jobs, I'd be surprise if anyone craves to do more.

    • @shinkamui
      @shinkamui 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      there's def a huge idealization of high complexity systems. In the end having too many cute things just mean you need to go get the one that is the best. Also means more stuff to get, so more time spent playing. Devs have said so many times they are happy with player retention right now and would rather not increase it to allow people to take breaks. In my eyes the variety we get out of 14 is the ability to play any job anytime. We don't need obscure pieces of gear to achieve gameplay variety, it's built in the job system already

    I always have a hard time trying to explain just how wonderfully challenging FFXIV fights can be. The issue is that you can't really digest the dozens of hours of wipes because one person took one step to the left when they shouldn't have in order to convince someone of it. The popular content creators only catch videos where everything is going perfectly and the consequences of errors are never seen. It really is something you just have to experience for yourself in order to understand.
    Great video, hope it gains traction!

    Just always enjoy your perspective as a true high end caliber player. I’m always left wanting more in perspective as well Tanking. While their are many FF content creators and less as compared to WoW content creators their are seemingly few FF14 content creators with your particular perspective at the very high end as well often as a Tank. From a player as such we need more perspective that can help never players to the game ongoing. I’ve kindly asked Rin over on his channel who you had on your channel before as a guest to try and share his perspectives as well which again can help so many newer players. I just don’t know if he will. But never hurts to kindly ask!

    Just this!!! Other FF14 content creators are too focused on casual gameplay. When I told a WoW player from my guild that Ultimate fights on FF are harder than aything we had seen in WoW, he doubted me. Its also funny to watch WoW youtubers like Bellular, Asmon, etc, implying that FF14 is for casuals. WoW players in general should really watch this video. The fact that FF14 endgame can catter a lot of casual players with a variaty of activities, doesnt mean It's not a game with hardcore content. Now I am like you... cant play any other MMO because FF14 spoilled me.

    • @OmegaEnvych
      @OmegaEnvych 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think the reason why so many people are saying that FF14 is more casual it's because raiding isn't the main focus of the game. Not that it's completely secondary but game simply expects that you will play it in your own, and more relaxed pace (I'm saying more about while-not-in-a-raid type of scenario) and, as result, it is much easier for casual players to get a hold of combat, role, how and what to do etc. etc.
      So yes, FF14 is WAY friendlier for casuals, but it doesn't mean it can't kick you in the nuts when it wants to.

    Loved the wow vid. This video felt very well put together and I could keep up with it this time 😂 I wanted to see vids out there about the endgame content for both games but people kept talking about the casual stuff. That stuff is nice and all but I just started progging e4s recently and I love it so much. Even failing seems fun because I either learn if I did something correctly and it was someone else who caused the wipe, or I didn't stand in the correct position on time. I'm hyped to hopefully become a decent raider some day to be be on par with my high end friends and for the personal satisfaction of beating hard content in a game I love. Progging 1 savage fight feels fulfilling already and I've just barely scratched the surface of raiding.

    One thing you didn't bring up in terms of gearing is Relic Weapons, which are a semi-casual, somewhat grindy task to get what becomes the BIS weapon by the end of the expansion. And when the next expansion drops, you still have a neat looking item for Glamour/Transmog. Do you have to do this? Absolutely not. It's just another option for those who don't want to, or are not interested in grinding out Savage clears for that BIS weapon.

      Ultimates are basically like the last ~2-3 mythic bosses of a new raid tier pre-nerfs.
      Ultimates being 8-man does allow for much more individually challenging mechanics for specific player.
      But as a whole, their difficulty seem comparable to fights like mythic Kiljaeden, Sire, Unaat, Argus, Aggramar, Guldan, Avatar of Sargeras et.c.
      I think one of the biggest differences is that Blizzard always nerf these incredibly difficuly bosses ~2 months in to allow non professional guilds to defeat those bosses.
      Saying that high end fights in wow are a joke compared to Ultimates is pretty dishonest. Mythic bosses in wow are known to cause massive burnout in alot of players and completely disband high end raiding guilds because of their difficulty. They're incredibly challenging.

      @@Grebeny tbf, the only time you can "fall behind" is right at the end of an expac. as at the start of one you have Poetic tomestone catchup gear to get you to the previous "max" item lvl for all but the weapon(the previous capped tomestone augmented gear) to get trough MSQ quickly(up to around halfway you dont need to think about your gear)in the middle you have the normal and first alliance raids starting with enough time to do them a few times to get your gear up to snuff before the next tier drops.. BUT at the end of an expac, you have capped augmented tomestones and savage gear. which is where you can fall behind, as your BiS will be a mix of savage and capped augmented tomestone gear. and you will only be able to get 2 maybe 3 pieces per week total along with the relic weapon grind being there in its entirety and thus requiring a good chunk of time

    Another layer of difficulty you could always choose to add is blind progging vs using guides on Savage. My raid group usually blind progs for at least one day on each fight to get a taste of it. We also tend to come up with our own ways of dealing with mechanics that work better for us than some of the established strats(though on some we just use the popular strats too).

    Man, this should be upped more to be heard. This was the only reason I still play FF14 now, the gearing for ff14 is simple enough that I can get BiS and have enough time to play WoW. Since I'm similar to you since 2.0 I skip story, rush to end-game get the best gear, log out and wait until the next raid content comes in.
    Savage is exactly how you said it is late heroic early mythic, its difficult but for a regular mythic WoW raider it should be easy enough, but Ultimates, First time i stepped UWU during SB i was definitely put in my place and NOTHING in WoW is as hard or as exhilarating as that.
    Keep up the good work!

    Personally I love how easy it is to get into the endgame raiding for 14. I've never been the hardcore type of player in mmo's but wanted to try out savage raiding in 14 since im good at picking up mechanics. So a personal friend of mine got a group together with the intent of trying to beat UwU and they needed an 8th. He came to me saying that I would have to gear up in savage so that weekend we went in. Even though it wasn't on release and echo exists I did get my first savage clear of an on tier raid and it felt pretty good. Even though e9s is really easy I'm looking forward to fully gearing up through the rest of eden, then maybe finally getting the drk ultimate weapon.

    In regards to the replayability of old bosses, while incredibly niche/part of a minority of players in ff14, Blue Mage has personally been a huge incentive for me to go back and do the older content I never cleared.
    I started savage raiding this expac in Shadowbringers and never had a group to do the old raids Omega, Alex, or coils when they were relevant. But thanks to the Blue discord I've had a ton of fun progging fights like T13 and A12S to get more cosmetics and titles, and this requires no echo and synced item level so you mostly have to do the fights properly like they were intended (barring a few changes due to the nature of the job).

I remember getting my Uncorrupted Voidwing on Heroic N'Zoth (as a healer) at 1st try, after stopping the game for months, and Extreme Hades or Titania are way harder than, let's say, Heroic Grong/Xanesh/Shad'ar from BFA. It would be closer to Heroic Jaina and Azshara. On the other hand, I also think Savage would be between late Heroic and late Mythic, but maybe not the lass boss which is often way harder than the rest. Ultimate would be "World 1st race" difficulty for a harder Uu'nat, with hundreds of pulls xD

      Most raiders in wow do raids for gear though, not for the challenge of extremely hard bosses.
      That's why only a dozen of guilds manage to kill the last boss of a mythic raid tier.
      If ultimate bosses are as hard as the creator of this video says, then very few wow players will be attracted by the endgame raiding of FFXIV.

    Imagine actually not wasting your players time but rather giving them a choice of diverse content to earn their currency and gear themselves.
    Not only that, but this is also clear prove an mmo doesnt need to timegate their players from fun activities to keep them in the game and a proof that cosmetic rewards and bragging rights is enough to motivate players to tackle conten, provided the content is good.

    I appreciate your insight and have to give you credit, because ultimates are, as you said, the hardest content ever made. If I had to do 20 minutes of E12S Phase 1 mechanics, mixed in with some Shiva for good measure, I think I'd go insane.

    @RhadaGhast100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure if anyone will read this comment or more specfically question, but I have an honest question since you've done content in both games and thats in regards to difficulty. I'm a heroic raider and was never really good at it. Take a long time to learn mechanics compared to others, always being pretty low on dps and when I started to try FF, by the time I got to EW I've found a lot of the fights to be harder then what I ended up doing in Heroic. So my question being if I had such a hard time with something as easy as heroic raiding, Do I really have a chance in extreme or savage content when I can barely do the easiest difficulty of these fights?

    Hey Lynx thank you for this video. As someone who is new to Ff 14 and started back in January (just reached 5.2) I am enjoying the game.
    However, I am looking to get into the harder boss fights and raids on the game, and I have tanking anxiety. As a Dragoon main, I am looking to get into tanking while also trying to master harder content. But I just catheter over that mental and sometimes physical hurdle of being a tank. What should I do?
    Thank you for everything and love your videos!

    • @Auesis
      @Auesis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been tanking since I started and also had anxiety to begin with. The best thing you can do is just to remember that the fact that you're a tank doesn't mean much. You're basically just a blue DPS that's going to be taking the hits instead of someone else. It's true that you set the pace in dungeons etc, and that you'll have to move the boss around, but it's best to still think about it as a DPS.
      For example, learning from your time as a Dragoon, where do you want the boss to be? You know that if it were you, you'd want easy access to flanks and for the boss not to move much and face roughly the same direction most of the time. Same principle for trash in dungeons - you'd want them all bunched up and with multiple pulls worth so you get the most out of your cooldowns. Work backwards from the DPS mentality and you'll feel much more comfortable about it eventually. Hope that helps!

    • @aaronparshall466
      @aaronparshall466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They made tanking a whole lot easier when shadowbringers dropped, that being said it helps having a veteran tank in raid content that you can trust to have your back. I actually stepped up and played a tank in raid content during ShB and found it less stressful than DPS'ing.

      I don’t think so. FF is a very personal game and this is indicative of the low viewcount on twitch (outside of this asmongold boom). The game is really fun to play, but not very fun to watch. Method, before they exploded, actually did host a world first race for the second savage tier of this expansion. It only reached around 5k viewers peak, as opposed to wow’s hundreds of thousands of viewers. The game still gets a ton of viewership on ultimate releases, but I don’t think the world first race will be streamed or have a community around it.

Dont get me wrong story and side content is great but raids and combat gameplay flow is why i play this game. Even difficulty and gear aquisition aside - i just enjoy XIV rotation and class gameplay so much that i cant play other MMOs anymore. Even when i dont play it for some time i have an itch to come back and sit for 5-10 min on dummy cos it is just pure extazy for my fingers. Now empower all this with very good balance where you REALLY can play what you like( hello wow ), interesting as fuck savage/ultimate fights, good gear aquisition, better socialization ( beacause you know, it is much easier and healthier to be friends with 7 people and get to know them then with 19 baboons ), awesome feel of reward after boss kill when you master your rotation and can dance the fight without braking it and much more! I just wish more people see this video and more videos like this produced. If you are raider and feel sceptical because of all this - wow have better raiding nonsense - dude just try 14, dont rush it , have your time and you will get miracle level of enjoyment at the end content. Cheers.

      You pointed out one thing that Lynx didn't really touch on but for me is my No. 1 motivation for playing FF14 over other MMOs. And that is honestly the class design. There are a few jobs that I'm kind of 'meh' on, but I can think of 7 jobs in FF14 that I absolutely adore playing. I compare this to WoW, and...while I LIKE a lot of the WoW classes, I don't love a single one like I do Samurai, Scholar, White Mage or Red Mage. The rotations are so fluid, less proc based (aside from dancer and bard maybe?), and the animations look soooo much better than WoW's combat animations IMO. And the best part of this, you can play any of the classes in the game right now at a high level, because they're all balanced.
