Actually I feel like this help demystify Furby and make it less creepy. There are a lot of sophisticated and tightly packed mechanisms in that thing-I am impressed! Now if we can get a techy to show us how the motherboard works, we could redeem ourselves from childhood trauma with these things.
I'm really impressed that they were able to pack all these different movements (eyes back and forth, blinking, talking, smile/frown, moving eyebrows, moving the ears, and moving the feet) with just a single motor. 7 or 8 different animated parts, which all have the illusion of being independent of one another, on one motor. Some really great engineering behind these. If you would have asked me prior to seeing this teardown how these worked, I definitely would have guessed that it used many different servos.

I actually like the digital eyes on the 2012s to Connects, they're so expressive and fun to look at with many different animations. But I like the idea of physical ones moving around in different directions too, so it's sad all the 2023 Furby eyes do is blink.
I showed my furby this.....hes planning revenge....but a small problem is.....he is a partyrocker wich means he is very small. Also we live in the netherlands and idk how long those small plush feet will survive.
Those triangular head screws don't need to be Dremeled. You just need a flat blade screwdriver with a small tip that will fit into the long edge of the triangle. They'll spin right out, easy as.
To anyone wondering, it’s the 2005 redesign version, which is also widely known in the furby community for being one of the most awful and terrifying models ever.

I've had 2 2012 ones and my sister has had a (I think) 2012 and a connect The digital eye furbys are the creepiest things when they die and they don't just stare they stare with gigantic pitch black eyes staring into your soul as they do whatever creepy thing is standard with a dying furby
I had this exact type of furby when I was younger, though it was all white (technically my older sister's but she never used it). I never had any creepy stories about it. but this is still pretty cool and the engineering behind it is very complicated and very cool.
Does anyone know how to repair a 2005 furby with possible motor issues? It seems like the motor is overworking as it keeps talking and moving its eyes, mouth and ears nonstop.
13:20 I think Little live pets's ‘clever keet’'s leg/wing and beak/neck and ‘little live pets surprise chick’'s beak and leg have similar as this mechanism. This also has one motor rotating in different directions to move different parts.
the beak is in an amzing good condition...this part seems to be broken in all devices, the rubber deteroirates. and the expression with the corner of the mouth, smiling or not, really not bad. bummer that they did not develop that direction more...
sadly you NOT even took a second to show us the electronics.. i would love to see, what ICs and Chips were on it, or what kind of microcontroller they used. bit of reengineering..
loved this video!! i’m actually needing help, i’ve found a spring which has came out of my 2005 furby. her mouth is always open ( assume something has broken ) and her tickle sensor does not work. do you recall seeing a spring of some sort? couldn’t seem to see in the video:) i collect these so any help i’d be grateful of!!
Be cool to see some mods and or new replacement parts with 3d printing fairly accessible now and some sort of AI added with things like Raspberry Pis not being too expensive.

What was the purpose of the winding wire on the left and right sides? Nobody can give an answer. Are these antennas? Is this a capacitive sensor? It was believed that Furby could listen to a room and transmit sound over a distance.
I have a Champagne Spanish speaking Furby. I saw the wires leading from the reset button to the battery posts needed to be resoldered and I was able to do that, but then something weird happened. It speaks fine, but won't move. I have no idea if another wire that's for movement has detached somewhere. Can you help me with this issue? Thank you

I didn't see you mention that in the video? What was point of them leaving the wires long and wrapping them up in the case? Programing or maybe power while being quality checked? Just seems odd to leave those there like that instead of just clipping them off short if not needed or fully desoldering them from the board...

This is really interesting. But the thing is, 2005s especially are really expensive. That one looked in really good condition so you must've payed a whole bunch for it.

Iirc the wires are to allow 2 furbies to interact with each other. They’re RF wires and function as antennas basically
