Growing up poor and born in a remote village with no TV and all I had was a broken radio that I got it for free, I spent much of time after school listening to western songs which was considered evil in my world. I remember hearing songs from matchbox 20 in the mid 90s I was just entering my teenage years, I had hope, I felt like there's more to life than poverty, pain and hunger, there's a big world out there and I must go. Today I get to sit here in my lofty life and listen to these songs again and it brings tears.

This may seem strange, given the lyrics and meaning of this song, but when I listen to this, I am instantly transported back to the summer of 2000. The nostalgia of that summer -Swimming at the local pool, slumber parties with my friends, going to camp, and watching cartoons on the TV - hit me like a ton of bricks. This song was played all the time on the radio and as far as my 10 year-old self was concerned, it was a carefree summer anthem. It all seems like a dream now.
Just about that EXACT memory stream with a few tweaks and several additions, was myself summer of 1993 with Aerosmith's classic compilation album Big Ones. I was 14, gorgeous, chilling with my sister every day at my grandma's pool next door to us. Minimum of 6 hours by the pool daily in the blazing, ludicrous South Carolina sun (much akin to a mid day Sahara fever dream yet with a working ozone layer, bless it) wearing not nearly enough SPFs naturally, each of us deep in our personal journey/ relentless bloodthirsty quest to win the annual Tanning Contest 🤦 ( I apologize Dr. Bryan, my dermatologist, for my lack of any scruples regarding sun protection, skin care and SPF maximum of 8.....we were on an undescribably competitive, bloody, fight to the death quest for the ultimate and best tan, future skin to which I now humbly apologize be damned!!). Life was absolutely perfect....... I've experienced that level of happiness only 3 times in my life, ranging in various amounts of time from 4 months to 3 years......just bliss every single day. It was as if time were standing still, a wrinkle in time on which we rode a perfect wave every day filled with genuine joy and indescribable happiness that now seems several lifetimes ago. Would I go back to age 13 and live these 44 years all over again, with their impervious joys and absolute bliss..... tempered and now intertwined with indescribable clinical depression, the sufferings of loving too hard, unspeakable tragedies and periods of incessant and unrelenting loneliness? You bet your sweet a** I would. For only the highest highs can be felt knowing and comprehending the lowest of lows. Perhaps eternal life will be the summer of 1993 on endless repeat..... that's my idea of perfect bliss throughout eternity. How beautiful. To God be the Glory of this life and of course, the summer of '93.
Since Matchbox 20 came out in the middle 90's they still have the same sound and haven't detoured from their original roots. Rob Thomas still carries the vocals along with fellow band members, they still ROCK in THEIR OWN WAY!!!
Matchbox 20 has the vibe of an entire generation and Rob Thomas sings about all of the "questions" his generation has about life and all it's insecurities.
These Guys have been my therapist for over two decades. Their music has helped me more than any magic pill or head doc out there. It’s ROB! His lyrics, they touch my soul. This song has always made me think of one person...I have loved him my entire life. I will see him this weekend for the first time in 17 years. ❤️ MB20/Rob’s solo world have helped me sooooo much! I want to thank him one day for his music. “Unwell” saved my life.
This is "our song". I remember this song playing on the radio when we were sitting in the boat we were test driving at Lake Mead. It was a 1988 Four Winns Horizon 180 with a modified V hull. We were young and dating at the time and when it came on we both stared into one another's eyes and a big grin came over each of us. That boat gave us many memories over the years. I also remember this song playing in my Jeep Wrangler, with half doors, eating ice cream from Sonic. We were still dating. Still young. She was looking cute and hot in her yellow sundress!! I was a dork with a tan and a flat top trying to look cool and impress her with my pilot like sunglasses. lol. That ice cream would somehow end up on her neck & our lips would interlock for the next 25 years! I no longer have that boat or that Jeep but I still have her and three living kids. ☺
Love this song. Brings me back to the love of my life when we started dating In June 2000. Miss him more than ever. Thank you for this timeless classic.

Most people in this lifetime will come to a point in their life where direction is lost. A fork in the road in which you must determine the next path for the future. When this day comes I hope you make the right decision. Hopefully music such as this guides you forward. Life will continue to kick you down, it’s inevitable. Put yourself back together. ✊ Rise again.
90s and early 2000 when you had to deal with heartbreak and pain bc there wasn’t social media, fast internet and instant gratification. You just had music and art. Or go on a walk to clear your mind if your friends were unavailable. Such a beautiful time. That ended in 2001 💔
Grew up with this song, as well as most other songs from Matchbox Twenty's pre-hiatus songs. Love this song, was one of my favorites from my early childhood. Also Matchbox Twenty is a pretty underrated band I must say, I'd expect this song to have a lot more than 2,800,000 views.
This videoclip is basically depression and paranoia wrapped in a neat package; you see the faces of your friends on your enemies, you think the world's problems are uniquely yours, and when someone offers you help in the darkness, you turn them away because you can't remember how to react.

This song couod be about a break up but it strikes me more about depression and anxiety. The part where he is trying to walk but the wind is only pushing him back is how it can feel. Why is it only me having this hard time to do anything. The part in the ally where he breaks off from everyone (you do that in a sense) you try to withdraw but another problem will come chase you doing that too. I love this song, Rob Thomas has got me through some hard times for sure.

I used to listen to this song when I was only 14 years old back in the school days in mtv. Even when I was 18, I listened to this song in my friend's computer with pain and sadness in my mind that it embedded in heart. Sadly no one understood me not even my parents or friends or relatives. Now I am 33 years old and still listening to it. This song always felt like it was made for me and my struggle throughout the life like an endless loop and the obstacles after obstacles coming after me but I still kept walking and walking.
I used to think 'Back to Good' was their best song until I hear song in my neighbor's house when I was going to the work the other day. I have played this song for about 100 times since then.
Rob Thomas es un increíble cantautor. Letras profundas con sonido increíble, marcaron una época en mi vida. Son una banda genial que siempre tengo presente en mi ❤
I remembered this song being number 1 on VH1 Top Twenty. My first and only CD was Matchbox Twenty Mad Season and I love all the songs on their album. Bent touches me differently......
This is my favorite song out of the Matchbox Twenty Collection, I don't know why-this song just speaks to me. I can feel the pain and the anger of betrayal. And it's not an easy song to play Live on stage. The Bassist is an incredible bass player to keep this song going into a Locomotive 🚂 Train coming at you.
The good ole days.. crazy how things change and technology is like a poison to childhood of the new generations. I was born in 1990.. Nothing like the 90's and earlier music.. there's only a few bands/artist I listen to on a consistent basis these days.. the rest is garbage or the music is written without any meaning or any kind of story behind it..

"Bent" is very 2000's rock, it still sounds very fresh and iconic alter all these years 🙂
Lyrics
If I fall along the way
Pick me up and dust me off
And if I get too tired to make it
Be my breath so I can walk
If I need some other love, then
Give me more than I can stand
And when my smile gets old and faded
Wait around I'll smile again
Shouldn't be so complicated
Just hold me and then
Oh, just hold me again
Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together
Keep breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent
If I couldn't sleep, could you sleep?
Could you paint me better off?
Could you sympathize with my needs?
I know you think I need a lot
I started out clean but I'm jaded
Just phoning it in
Oh, just breaking the skin
Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together
Keep breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent
Start bending me, it's never enough
As I feel all your pieces
Start bending me, keep bending me
Oh, until I'm completely broken in
Shouldn't be so complicated
Just touch me and then
Oh, just touch me again
Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together
Keep breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me will let them
Without understanding
Here I go there again
Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together
Yeah, you're breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent
Thx great song lyrics 🤠

Even when I was 18, I listened to this song in my friend's computer with pain and sadness in my mind that it embedded in heart. Sadly no one understood me not even my parents or friends or relatives. Now I am 33 years old and still listening to it. This song always felt like it was made for me and my struggle throughout the life like an endless loop and the obstacles after obstacles coming after me but I still kept walking and walking.
Thanks for this commentary. Same here, mate. Hope you will be fine.
I love listening to a mix of Matchbox 20 and Train when I'm having trouble getting myself to face my day. These 2 bands always make me smile.
One of the best bands of all time! Still listening to in 2014!!!!
Kaitlyn Michelle I’m still listening in 2019 😍
This song is on repeat daily for me .
I relate from this song so much.
I used to think 'Back to Good' was their best song until I hear song in my neighbor's house when I was going to the work the other day. I have played this song for about 100 times since then.
It still is one of the best.
Back to good, bent and 3 a.m. in that order are my favorite.
Back To Good is their best song imo. It just has so many layers and innuendos and double entredes. It's so complex and yet so simple.
Best outtro /guitar ending solo of any song ever............. Could listen to it on a never ending loop
Rob is soooooo freakin gorgeous!! LOVE HIM!!
One of those songs as soon as you hear it, an instant time machine and transports me back to a teenager when everything was simpler
Rob Thomas es un increíble cantautor. Letras profundas con sonido increíble, marcaron una época en mi vida. Son una banda genial que siempre tengo presente en mi ❤
Life is like a music video back in college with your headphones on.
I remembered this song being number 1 on VH1 Top Twenty. My first and only CD was Matchbox Twenty Mad Season and I love all the songs on their album. Bent touches me differently......
Early 2000s music is my aesthetic...
And it still is in 2019...
THE BEST MATCHBOX 20 SONG EVER.
Trance K Blade:
Personally,I think that Smooth, with Carlos Santana is his best song going. Such a choice pairing of artists!
Unwell is better.
You are right about that!
So underrated it’s not funny
Back 2 good is in my opinion the absolute BEST lyrically not many songs hold a candle🤷🏻♀️🔥
One of the best songs ever made
This song says so much about who a person really is on the inside if you can understand.
I miss the 90's
Haha It came in 2006 dude lol
No I remember seeing the music video on much music in 1999
Oh you're right, just checked out the release date
+WithLove the song came out in 2000
2000s.
These guys pretty much defined alternative rock for me in the 90's. Great song here.
Childhood memories. born 1991. Anybody else? When this came out I saw it on MTV I was like 8
GyroLamb I was born in 1990, so yeah, I remember all of this music and when the videos would come on MTV.😊
Ella The best people were born in 1990!
Like 8, or 8?
when mtv actually still played music
This has got be my favorite Matchbox 20 jam-love the lyrics and how they flow through the instrumentals.
His voice is dynamic in this one.
😌🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶⚡🎶🎶⚡🎶💫💫💫💫💥💫💫💫
My favourite Matchbox 20 song!
That's goes for me too!
At work and this just came on the radio! ❤
One of my top 10s of all time. God bless my generation and the kids that have good taste
2019... I aged but this never gets old😍
This shit hits differently in 2020 than it did in 1999
Man doesn’t it just though?!?
Single was released in * 2000, fam ;)
I think for our generation all you need is pre and post 9/11
@@jdorritie idk, for me first was the April 19, 1995 Murrah Building bombing by Timothy McVeigh. But I live in Oklahoma City so it was personal. 9/11 just seemed like an extension of the terrorism that was brought to light way back then.
Sometimes people need to pray for how it's going to be in the end.
This song stays with me all the time🩷 it’s so beyond beautiful. “Wait around and I’ll smile again” 🩷
The kinda song I'll never forget. ❤
Rock 'n' roll, pls come back to life.
One of the best choruses of all time
This classic definitely hits you harder when you haven't listened to it for a while.
Best band ever
I can't explain feelings when I hear this song.
time flies but my love for rob thomas & mb20 music never change not even a bit
This song is so Badass
Quite possibly the MOST underrated songwriter of all time, most definitely of my generation. And he's from my state South Carolina 🤘!
I swear there music is therapy
Bent but not broken.
Exactly
Different song man
needed this right now.❤️
💯
Way to close for comfort ,, hope to bend back
best band in decades
I really feel this band doesn't get the praise that they deserve.
This song deserves millions of likes it describes what people are going through in life right now like me this song really helps me through what I'm going through I really appreciate this song ❤️❤️ I love this song ❤️💙💙💞
If this is the end of my world, I went out listening to Rob Thomas. Such a legend 😘
This song is about what it's like to be down on your luck and the helpless feeling that goes along with it;
no, this song is about being "bent" bent means diseased....he also has a song...called "disease"
if you break down the lyrics he talks about getting with the girl and taking on all her problems
I woke today with this song in my head. Was shocked to see how old it is.
Oh Rob, you're so dreamy
My name is actually Terry
Jeremy Shawn foster does care about you so be happy
The idea of this music video can fill out on whole Netflix series.
still their best song to date
i agree.....
I'm can't decide if I agree or not. I love all their songs, but I always find myself really favoring this song
+Becca Garr me tooo...and this is also my favorite music video of them 🙌
I love MATCH BOX 20,
Unwell is better IMO.
I loved it then ... and I love it now
