I was 21 in the spring of ‘03. I couldn’t afford to stay enrolled in school and couldn’t bear to go home… I was broke, lost, and deeply depressed. When I entered a karaoke contest, I sang this song and won enough money that I could afford to eat for another week. This song reminds me of those hard times, but also of the resolve we can find to survive them.
Whatever you’re enduring right now: Keep going. You’re gonna make it.

This is hands down my favorite song of all time. I never felt like I belonged anywhere no matter how hard I tried. I was loved by my parents. I had friends. But I still felt like I didn't belong. This song moved me the first time I heard it. Like someone dived into my mind and borrowed my feeling and put them into words for me. I cherish this song. Thanks Matchbox 20.

I was working today and this song played, out of nowhere, and it reminded me of when I was a 11 year old and my mom asked me to translate this song to her. And I did, and she was so proud!

This song helped save my life in Dec 2020. I knew I wasn't alone when the words hit me right in the soul. So I kept going.
In December of 2020 I was in the hospital fighting for my life after I was giving up on life I walked in the middle of the road at night and stood there and got hit by a snow plow it broke seven of my ribs and one of ribs punctured my lungs collapsed it, the whole time I was in the hospital I played this song on repeat, this song helped me through it, God let me live and showed me I had a purpose after letting me make it out of the hospital.
You're definitely not alone! This song was also a lifesaver for me in 2012. I was in the ICU with a brain aneurysm bleed, fighting for my life and my sanity

I was 16 when this song was released, but it means so much more to me today. I’m now 33, a veteran with PTSD, major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. My entire life has been halted because of my mental health. For the first time, these lyrics truly resonate with me. I’m crying right now because it makes me feel like there are others out there who understand what I’m going through. Like I’m not so alone. Because even when I’m surrounded by people who love me, I still feel really lonely. I guess it’s because they don’t truly understand, even though they try to. Anyway, I hope you’re all doing well. You're not alone brother. I always had anxiety and PTSD from my childhood but life/service in a PMC made it 500% worse. It seems my anxiety and depression have only grown. I'm working like mad to help things but there was a time when it was difficult for me to leave my house. Remember there are others... Society just likes to sweep this type of ailment under the rug because it's generally caused by something society allows to happen with the mindset that it's okay.
I hope you're all doing better. Take it a day at a time. You're never alone.

This song was immensely popular in the Philippines when I was a teen and I remember singing this especially when around my aunt who helped raise me (who was also schizophrenic, bipolar, and epileptic) Back then it was just because it had the lyrics "im not crazy, im just a little unwell" which always summed up her whole being, and a little bit just to spite her.
Now that I'm older and she's been gone for around 5 yrs (she died of kidney failure due to 30+ years of heavy medications), I could understand the true meaning of the song and how sad it really was for her.
Oh how I miss her and her tantrums, if only I could turn back time and sing this song without the intent to make fun of her, I would, just to make if better for her. I love and miss my mommy girlie :(((

This hits deep when you deal with depression. There are days I wish I could just go away from everything, but for some reason I still try to see another day through. Have loved this song since it came out, I feel many can relate now more than ever.

I think that what's really important is that this song has made a lot of people who are battling a variety of mental illnesses feel not so alone. I'm one of those people, and this became "my song" the very first time I heard it.

Man this shows my break downs so well. Exactly. This is what it was like trying to go to work and stuff. I drank heavy to combat the condition but that led to worse. Now I'm getting treated but no diagnosis yet. Could be borderline or bipolar but I'll tell you this much... It's kicked my ass and humbled me down to where I'm actually a better person ❤ and I treat people better because I have no idea what's on the other side of a nice smile or dirty clothes etc... I just know I've been treated with mercy so I try to do that.
I love this song because as someone with severe schizophrenia I can relate to lyrics a lot and the visuals of the video, I always listen to this song before my episodes starts to calm my brain down and make me feel less alone, this song saved my life when I was 15 from trauma, severe bullying and schizophrenia. If your struggling with this disorder or any other mental illness just know your not crazy and that you'll be ok your just a little unwell and that ok. Stay strong 💪 you got this

My aunt and grandma struggled with schizophrenia. 2 of the best people I have ever known. I will never forget them. My grandma has been gone for years but we just laid my aunt to rest on valentines day. You got this. Love and hugs sent your way.

This song continues to resonate deeply with me. The song's portrayal of life's struggles strikes a chord every time I listen to it. It's become my to go to whenever I need a reminder that I'm not alone in facing challenges.

As someone who suffers from bipolar disorder type 2, anxiety, depression, and severe moods swings, this song makes me cry so much. I had spent the last seven years alone, believing i was unlovable. Staying away from certain things/types of people, or places so i dont relapse and try to take my life again. And now im back to square one again after breaking up w my girlfriend because she cheated on me. 😢

I know what it's like to be depressed since I tried to overdose because I didn't want any part of this place called the universe or this thing called life. There's tens of millions of people like us and we aren't given a fair shot at life. I'm sorry that your girlfriend cheated on you. That's not fair for you. Words aren't enough to communicate a state of mind people like us have. Maybe someone like us will invent it in the future. I'm sorry that I can't find the words to help you and I'm sorry if I sound empty because I am. I just hope you can fill the emptiness with something and you can find a home in it since it's better than nothing. Don't give up ok.?! My grandmother passed away on my twenty-first birthday, about 4 days ago. I'm so busy with work and college that I haven't had the time to mourn her death despite how close we were. This song helped me deal with those emotions, and soon enough I'll have the chance to cry for her. May her soul rest in peace.

I'm 20 right now and a little lost, as if i've been dumped into a world that's not what it seemed. Life's been up and down and all over the place since i've graduated. My dad would listen to Matchbox and here I am in the same shoes. I know i'm still young but most of the time feel like I can't truly enjoy these times like i want to. When my parents broke up, I used to sleep on the couch often and listen to this song all the time, my little brother would sometimes sleep beside me and I would always share my headset with him, years later I found out it sort of became his favorite song, I knew this because he hates singing when there's people, but he cannot resist singing along with this song especially if I'm singing it too. My brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Myles, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life...

💔 I'm so sorry to read this !! Was my dad's favorite song before he passed, he was a Vietnam veteran with Ptsd, I always understood his mind, me having ptsd also I knew how he felt. He always told me as a Catholic I can not kill myself but he did, slowly with the alcohol.
I'm sorry for your loss. The friction leads to callouses, or raw nerves. For some, it's raw nerves, and they sadly pay the price. The calloused still function, but they stop feeling. It's hard to find a middle ground. Find the middle ground, honor your brother, and carry on, as I'm sure he'd have wished. Those of us dancing on the edge never want anyone to follow. Peace.

Not like anyone will end up reading this but I’ve known this song since it came out and it came on one day after my brother who was Schitzophrenic passed away. It couldn’t be more perfect about how he felt. He had a heart of pure gold and just because his illness was so bad (no Schitzophrenia doesn’t kill you and that’s not how he died. It also was not drug related) didn’t make him a bad person. As Rob sings, he’s not crazy, he’s just a little unwell🤘🏼!

This song helped me so much when I was suffering with my mental health, I spent 3 months in a psychiatric unit after my ex boyfriend had me sectioned purely so he wouldn't have to "deal with me anymore" as he put it. I've now been diagnosed with psychotic depression, not a nice thing but I'd listen to this song every night before meds and bed. I swear it was written for me!

Began to understand the meaning of this song when I had a depression. It was really bad. I was thinking of ways of ending my life. I convinced myself that its more peaceful being gone to oblivion. Havent got a good amount of sleep for months. Now Im glad my mind is starting to clear up. Training boxing and lifting weights helped me a lot.

This song made me feel normal when I was struggling with intense OCD as a teenager and had no idea the condition even existed. Now I work on a psychiatric ward in a hospital and I love this song because I see all of our patients are real people with real stories and hard life circumstances that have led to their serious mental illness. For anyone reading this, I highly recommend doing a Mental Health First Aid course. You never know what warning signs you might come across in someone you meet, and how you might save their life.
