    I really enjoy your videos. Your Yorkies are precious! I have two yorkies, a male (12yo) and a female (7yo). Just found out my female has an enlarged heart (unfortunately, my male does too), and she has gained 3 lbs in the one year we have had her. She was rescued off of the streets in LA. I believe she was in a puppy mill, dont know how she ended up on the streets. When they found her they couldn't tell she was a Yorkie because her hair was so long and matted. When I adopted her she was 6.4 lbs, now she is 9.4 lbs. I know I have to watch the fat content in their food. I feel like she isnt getting enough food, but I have to allow for treats I know she will get from my husband and my mother in law, who comes in to let them go outside after my husband goes to work in the afternoon. I prefer homemade food, but currently have them on grain free kibble with a small amount of wet. They get turkey pieces, half of a grain free biscuit (the same brand and flavor as food), and a Whimzee around 8 pm to help clean their teeth. Their medicine is given in Greenies pill pockets.
    I dont know what to do to help her lose weight. I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

    • @MeganGraham
      @MeganGraham  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Sandy, I think people think that it is kind to give their dogs treats, but I often disagree. If it were my dogs I would: gradually increase exercise, cut out treats (or give a blueberry or piece of apple once in a while, make sure they are nit getting and food for humans. Food is not love. So many people confuse it with love. They do it themselves, and say they "can't" give things up. Having excess weight is harmful to people and animals, and while making a change may be painful in the moment (you have to give something up)....not making a change will be much more painful because eventually, people (and animals) will become sick from improper diet. I would work closely with your vet, as well as a nutritionist for your dog. I don't know what will help an enlarged heart condition, but I am sure excess weight will make it worse. I also can't see your dogs size, but it sounds like (just from what they are saying) they are overweight. I would make changes in their diet with the help of a vet.

    My yorkie is picky and only eat wet food and fresh pet I’m not sure if that’s a good brand but we tried high end food from a pet store called healthy spot in L.A not sure if there’s one where you are but he did not like any of those so we tried petsmart brands he likes it but I know it’s not a good brand he likes the Cesar wet food and it smells but idk what to do

    Hi I just found your you tube and it’s so helpful . I just bought a yorkie four weeks ago and she is two months old and weighs 3 1/2 lbs but the breeder told me to feed her twice a day . Now I’m concerned since you said I should constantly leave food out for her . She’s very greedy and I feel if i did that for her she would never stop eating 😀. Also I feed her taste of the wild dry food . Im going to watch your video about best food for yorkies next .

    I have a 14lb yorkie, 15 yes old. I have fed him fresh pet. Max has always liked it. In December he had a mast cell tumor removed - very scary but thankfully he seems to be doing well. We just got a puppy, Leo. The breeder recommended Royal Cannin. We give are using the can and yorkie puppy kibble mixed together. I've been adding a little chopped string beans and fresh carrots. They both love it. We have been thinking of trying Dr. Marty's food Nature's Blend. Thanks for your videos. Any suggestions on puppy grooming?

    My Yorkie Marvin, beautiful and sweet, is 7.7 pounds and he has maintained that weight for some time. I feed him 3 times a day mostly. I always pay attention to him because he does ask me for food too by pawing my face. He had two episodes of pancreatitis. One time was brought on by me mistakenly giving him a bone with a lot of fat. That was a very scary time and both he and his brother a border terrier had to be hospitalized for 3+ days. Needless to say I also felt horrible and scared. He is also VERY picky. So I give him real human grade chicken, a pasta that is in a rice like form and few apple pieces (so he doesn’t get constipated) and a supplemental powder formulated by a veterinarian. I had his current vet check this diet and he said keep doing it. Prior to being on this diet Marvin ate scantily and burped all the time. His teeth are not that great, I’m going to have to figure out how I can get him to tolerate brushing. I’ve also thought about trying the “farmers dog” food just to see if the variety would be good for him. He still as an adult, is prone to hypoglycemia- hell start throwing up- and I have to give him something small and sweet like a piece of apple because he’ll also get anorexic, just like we do when you haven’t eaten and your overly hungry. His coat is shiny and he has great energy on this diet, but I am Always curious what others do about their finicky eaters. Thanks so much for your discussions!

    So my Yorkie is a senior, he's 16 almost 17 in August.
    He has been having some issues with his kibble as well as bathroom constipation issues. So he has Lost just under one pound since March.
    He seem to want to eat every 2 hrs so I have switched to making my own soft homemade food.
    He eats it alot better but I don't want to over feed him. If it was up to my pup he would eat everytime he wakes up.
    How much should I feed him.

    My vet told me to feed her every 2 hours instead of leaving it out all day because I need to see how much she can eat. My Rosie is only an 11-month-old puppy and weighs 2 lbs right now but is also hypoglycemic. She was 1 lb 8 oz at 9 weeks old. I was trying to get some nice wet food from the farmer's dog or similar for her but all sites said not until 12 weeks for their food. She won't eat and is super picky sometimes. Hopefully, I will find something she loves that is healthy for her. One more week.

      have you talked to a vet about it? sometimes it takes awhile for dogs to warm up to their new environment. That being said my dog eating schedule looks like this too. We free feed so he eats when he wants too. Sometimes it's once a day and sometimes it's 2-3 times a day. My vet has always said as long as they're healthy weight and aren't exhibiting any symptoms then it's okay. Also try giving your puppy some healthy treats (raw lettuce or cucumber for example) in the meantime. Make sure you still talk with vet to double check everything is okay!

    Love the videos. I’ve noticed that most of your videos’ audio is not balanced (more coming from the left the right speaker). This isn’t meant to be an insult and it doesn’t matter for most users but people with headphones will be less likely to watch videos in full when the audio isn’t balanced. I know you were saying you’d like to make your online presence (TH-cam) part of your business so watch out for that in the future!

    I have 4 of them. max is 8.2 lbs. he needs to lose. The vet told me Science Diet Metabolic. it is not working and he has to have a fatty tumor removed. He eats 1 total cup of food a day same as the other 3 but they all get a joint chewy in the morning, then a ginger treat for brushy, brushy, and then frozen green beans if they were good or did something. Just one or 2. Hardly any calories. Why can't he lose weight. Been on it a year now. Should I decrease his food to 3/4 or a half a cup a day? He needs to get this fatty tumor removed and he is 7 this month. Thanks, Megan.

    • @MeganGraham
      @MeganGraham  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is just my opinion (and how I would do things if it were my dog). I wouldn't use science diet. I have a video up on pet food, and in my links (look in the description below) I have a link for 10 percent off to evermore (it is real food). I think food is medicine, but real food.
      I'm not sure if you have seen my other videos, but I have been dealing with inflammation (due to toxins) and this can sometimes make me appear that I am heavier than I am (the inflammation can swell me)
      ❤️ proven.pet/MEGANGRAHAM ❤️(I am an ambassador for this company and use it for my pets. Whether they have a mold exposure or not, pets get a lot of pesticide exposure...plus small dogs like yorkie get big amounts of medicines (same size as big dogs put into their bodies quickly at their wellness check ups (I'm not saying the same of this mechanism, but you can figure it out.
      If you are using any of the topical or ingested flea and stuff, I wouldn't anymore. Regardless of what vets say, it is a neurotoxin. I use holistic stuff and will provide the name if you'd like.
      From Proven pet I would do cellular oxygen, cellular cleanse and cellular life ( I would add in one per week at a 1/4 dose. and eventually work up to a higher dose). I believe that all dogs could use this regimine. We live in a toxic worls and pets are exposed to so much.
      Make sure to give filtered water to pets. I put oxygen drops in my pets water to better oxygenate and fortify their bodies.
      Lat supplement I would add: Real mushrooms brand pet chews. Also detoxifying. In Japan this blend is given alongside traditional cancer treatments. I give them to my pets in advance.
      Lastly, make sure that your vet has tested for all parasites.
      Is this helpful at all? Please let me know if you have any questions. I don't actually think your pup has a weight issue. I bet it is an inflammation issue.

      3/4 of a cup divided by three is 1/4 per serving.

      I would look at her food, or speak to her vet. I went over how I figure it out on the video.

      Oh no, does your yorkie go for long walks? I have never had a fat yorkie.

    My Yorkie just won’t eat. I have to hand feed her.

      I had the same issue with my Yorkie when she was a puppy. There was a time when she would only eat her kibble when she’s on an incline and her kibble is rolling down 😂. She eventually grew out of it and now just loves food.

      I’m dealing with the same thing. Try mixing in shredded Parmesan cheese and mix it in with the food

      @@Sunlight-jo7je I would avoid giving Yorkies high fat foods frequently.

      This would definitely make your dog constipated and cause more problems down the line

    Clicks off because it’s a cat and not a YORKIE 😂
