      @radhakrishnangopal8282 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I agree with you totally.
      Nature has instilled such an organised life into them, we humans cannot match their efficiency. Despite their numbers the harmony that exists in each hive is certainly a lesson for humans (particularly in this age of intolerance)
      So many qualities that humans should learn from these little creatures...
      Their strength in protecting the colony and their queen
      The coordinated team efforts they put up together with defined roles
      The care they put forward to care for their next generation
      Their amazing sense of smell and ability to sense temperature changes
      Their ability to save food for future
      So many interesting things and the list can go on and on....Bees are simply amazing!

      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely need a stingless bee hive in your balcony , since you are enamored by them as well !! I agree with all of the points you listed out so nicely , humans are way behind bees in so many ways ....

      These stingless bees are native to the tropics and subtropics and they would visit my garden every year when I had basil and mustard flowers bloom , I just didnt know their name and would call them tiny bees . Then I stumbled upon this bee keeper and his work through another you tuber David from " work with nature " who is currently living in Kerala , India . Just amazing isn't it , hassle free bee keeping , I hope you find them where you are located .

    I think that the queen excluder is closed with propolis and they dont go up to store honey so thats why ur colony is low in population try to open the holes and put some honey pots from the other green hive so they start moving to the upper part to save honey there.

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello ! They need to store the honey first in the brood chamber and once they have enough there , they go to the honey chamber to store by removing the propolis . ( This is what Binu had explained to me when I had asked him about the queen excluder being sealed ). I don't get why the bees did not do well in this particular hive , when all the hives had the exact same closed propolis which is put there intentionally by Binu . Yes I will consider the option suggested by you once there is enough honey stored in the other hives, I will wait till the pollen seaon is over to do this . Thank you for your suggestions !!

      You can easily maintain a stingless bee hive in a terrace garden . I have my hives since 2016 .
      If there is nectar and pollen source through the year they will be fine .
      I won't be opening my hives , so I won't be making a bee video for a while now .

    I know that honey bees get very agitated when their combs are moved. It is my belief that they communicate by touch in regard to their immediate environment. Their 'bearding' which forms a kind of lattice throughout the hive likely allows all the bees to know what is going on within the hive regardless of their position in it. My bet is your bees do something similar.

    hai mam the colony no 1 arrived on 28/11/16 shown @ 5:42mins of video , i think the queen excluder hole is closed and that may b the reason it dsnt work well... ur videos r very informative.. thanks for updates . myself Sadik Ali from Kerala.

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello ! I had checked with Binu about the queen excluder being closed with the propolis when the hive arrived . Binu seals all the hives that way , he said when the bees are ready to store the extra honey they will make their way into the honey chamber . The issue is with the brood chamber not doing well , where the colony size should have increased and they should have stored honey and pollen in that chamber . Bees are not as many as there were when the hive came to me . I will observe and update in the next video . Thank you for watching !!

    Hi Mbg, very detailed video and very well explained,the bee hives look so sci fi ☺my favorite part was the bees feasting on different flowers from your balcony garden,can't wait to see the honey harvest :)) btw what was the pink flower at 11.49 ??

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Suzanne , thank you , I have been collecting footage for this video for a while now to give a detailed update , hope the bees kept you engrossed . Yes , especially in the close up of the mustard flowers I felt as though they were pushing each other to get to the pollen and behaving like humans !!! Let's see how long the honey harvest will take , definitely not this year I think . The pink flower was Ceylon spinach .

    Can we transfer bees from one hive to another hive using plastic tube? This technique is usually used when the hive is in a compound wall.

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Binu has a video on this , I think it will help you decide . You will need to transfer some eggs , not sure though , try after your hive is well established.

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi yes I do have them , but I recently lost 2 hives in these monsoons , just 2 remain. Hives didnt get strong because of less nectar and pollen year round . On a farm it would work great , in a city chances are less for success.

  • @RajmahendraR

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pollen and nectar is seasonal everywhere . Currently I have nothing growing in my garden and no flowers in the garden across. But as you saw in the video the bees stored plenty of pollen before the rains , so they are living on those reserves . They stay inside the hive in the rains and the colony size may go down as there is no surplus pollen to increase hive population. Once rains are over the bee hive acitivity increases again. I wont be harvesting till next February now , I will observe . I got my hives in November 2016 . As I mentioned in the video , even if you dont have a garden , as long as there is garden within 200 metres of the hive, the bees will be fine .

      Hello , thanks . Regular bees sting and we cannot harvest honey from them , your building will need to call professionals or experienced bee keepers who will remove the honey for you. My building also has hives on the higher floors every year . The bee keepers come and smoke out the bees and then go about removing the hive . We are told to shut our windows when they are removing the hive.

    A very useful video especially for begineers.After watching your various videos on stingless bees i finally bought a green rectangular bee hive( wooden) from Binu on 5/10/18 when he had stall in an exhibition at Trivandrum .I also bought another without bees.Unfortunately i could not meet him in person.I have kept the hive on the slab below a sunshade.Should i hang it ? Is this to avoid ants?

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and congratulations on your stingless bee hive !! Even if you hang it , ants can travel along the wire or medium you are using to hang . As long as it is in shade it should be fine . Only way to prevent ants would be a water bath around the hive .

    • @mpjairaj
      @mpjairaj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been advised to apply grease on the wire , to prevent the movement of ants.hope that helps.Actually i have 2 hives that are placed closed to each other.Hoping that bees wil migrate from one hive to the other.I have sowed some mustard seeds for flowers . And kept sugar solution as shown in one of your videos.

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mpjairaj Thank you for the grease tip , was not aware of this . Bees know their hive exactly , they will not go to other hive even by mistake 😁 , I have 2 hives next to each other . When you split your hive , they will go into both because they will recognize the scent . Or if a colony finds your empty hive and chooses to stay there . Good luck.

      Hello . Unfortunately everyone is in the same boat as far as Binu goes . He has some logistics issues due to which he is not shipping the hives with bees anymore . Yes stingless bees are very much around for us . You can make the box with any untreated wood . The green wooden one with side by side partition is better than the double decker model in my opinion . On Binu's you tube channel they show all their hives in a video , unfortunately it is in malayalam . If you can have some one translate for you , you can easily get the hives made . Good luck .

      I will need to do some more homework on the queen's flying abilities. When a queen cell hatches and there are 2 queens in the same hive , the younger virgin queen flies away when the workers find another appropriate location to set up home , so I am thinking it is the older queen that cannot fly , but the newly hatched one who has not mated with the drones can fly , that is the only way a new hive can be created . Confirmed this with Binu.

    This is awesome, inspiring and exciting :) I am in! I will contact him :) Questions:
    1) If I am not in city with door locked for 1 month, will it be a trouble? How long can they stay unmanaged?
    2) Should I protect them from birds or anything? I am in Mumbai Urban too and it will be in Balcony with no garden there. I will have to roam around and see if there are any flowers around. Not sure if this is flowering season here, I am new. I am on 9th floor btw, so nothing is close. We have many honey bee natural ones here, but they are stinging honey bees. As you said, these are small and need flowers closer.
    Thoughts?

      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol yes I felt the exact same when I found Binu's stingless bee hives November 2016 !! Regarding contacting him , I suggest you wait till 1st week of July when he will be taking orders , he isn't too good with taking and returning calls haha :) :) , so I suggest you drop him a line via sms or whatsapp. Answering your queries : 1. You do not need to do anything once your hive is in place outside your window / balcony , you can be gone for even more time with no issues . 2. Birds won't be interested in them , however spiders love to hang out just outside the entrance of the hive to catch their meals , I try to move the spiders but they come back , they are just looking for food , so I accepted that some bees will fall prey to predators which is nature's way . 3. No flowers / no garden in your balcony is not an issue as you saw in my case , as long as there is some nectar and pollen source within 200 metres of your building . I cannot say for sure how 9th floor will be with stingless bees , but I know that regular bees make hives every year on the 16th or 17th floor of my building . I have seen stingless bees visit a friend's terrace garden on the 6th floor in Mumbai . Hope this helps !

    Hi, I have a question about the hive that has two chambers, how do the bees move between the chambers? Also do they produce honey through out the year?

    • @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
      @mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a connection between the 2 chambers , the bees starting using the storage chamber only when the 1st chamber where they are residing is full. These bees are very tiny , about a 3rd the size of a housefly , so they produce only small amounts of honey , around 300 gms can be harvested from the pvc hive once it is full. My bees dont have access to pollen and nectar thru the year because I am in the city , so they use up what ever they store, a year now since I have the hives , not been able to harvest so far.

    # Message from Binu Pt regarding STINGLESS BEE HIVE ORDERS.
    Due to very heavy and continuous rains in Kerala , the stingless bee hive colonies are not ready for splitting and making new hives for sale , hence Binu will be sending out STINGLESS BEE HIVE ORDERS only in NOVEMBER 2017.
    Please contact him in 1st week of November 2017 for ordering your stingless bee hives .
    #stinglessbees #stinglessbeehive
    # This morning I had an emergency with my bee hives and Sarah Hamilton from Bee Yourself , Australia was very kind to help me out right away , thank you so very much! Link to her you tube channel :th-cam.com/channels/Qm0p_gg83y8snApjqbYbGQ.html
    Please choose your hive location carefully .If one needs to shift the hive in the same window or balcony , one can move it around 1 to 2 feet and bees will find the hive , however if one needs to shift to another window for some reason , the bees do not easily find the new location and keep coming back to the original location and may eventually die when they do not find their hive .I am experiencing this first hand this morning as I needed to shift the hives to another window due to the renovation work in my building and the bees are not able to find the new location near window no 4 . I may need to shift the hives to my parents house after closing the entrance tonight till the renovation work of my building is completed . A new location has to be at least 2 km away for the bees to return to their hive .
