I have a Marlin 1894 in.357 Magnum that is basically the same concept. A short, quick handling carbine and those .357 magnums out of a 16” barrel are no joke.

Back in early 1980, I bought a Winchester 94 .30/30 Trapper model. I really liked that rifle/carbine but, a friend offered a Remington 722 that my youngest son wanted so, I traded. I still have a full size 94 that will most likely go to one of my grandsons, gotta keep em in the family.

I've done similar things. In the early 1980s I cut down a 7 1/2" Super Blackhawk Ruger to right at the ejector rod. Then hard chromed it. Everyone wanted to buy it! Ditto for a Model 92 Rossi I did, cutting it down right at 16 1/4". It does indeed change the whole feel of the rifle! Roy H.

I did this with an old Marlin .30-30 that was abused by a former owner. Got it for next to nothing. It had the long barrel on it. Had it cut to 16” and 11 degree crown. Had Marbles buckhorn sights and new stocks put on. I’ve considered having it SBR’d and lop off a few more inches.

My Rossi 92 is in 44 mag. Know 44 mag can handle most animals on the planet or in America for sure. But think that caliber its way overated for hunting anyhow. One reason is probably cause of the old Dirty Harry movies. But think this Rossi 44 mag rifle will be one of the best self defense weapons out there. Some ways probably as good if not better then a pump shotgun.

0:58 - old optical illusion trick, hold one closer to look bigger. You should have held them above the other to see how much difference you really had. Mine is a 19 inch barrel so I can't imagine what cutting 3 inches off would really do for me. Now the additional ammo storage and better sights are an interesting idea.

Maybe a lever gun in a pistol caliber like .38/.357, but that ammo is just as scarce and overpriced too.
