Great to see the two Canadians playing each other at the Crucible. Think I watched this on the night.

And could have it as a tax write-off in the process.

Oh how I miss the 80's, cigarettes and pints of beer, live on daytime TV

Bill was an unusual guy a great player but probably the unhealthiest athlete of that time drinking copious amounts of beer and chugging on packs of cigarettes as well . RIP big Bill !

Always enjoyed watching big Bill play, he died way too young.

yes he died way too young but was never going to make a good age, heavy drinking, smoking and obese, not a good lifestyle to make "old bones" real shame, by all accounts lovely bloke and a real character.

Quite a lot of off-air mic talk you could hear in this one. A real tactical grind of a match it seemed.

You realise the state of the country now when “Big Bill” doesn’t look big at all, by today standards id have called him Big Boned Bill.

I read somewhere that Thorburn made the first ever live 147 in the world championships. Not sure what year. And that it took him 2 years to compile the break.

It was a running joke that Cliff Thorburn took forever to make a shot.
