Exploring the Waldorf Q Keyboard

- This a probably a boring video if you are not interested in the Waldorf Q Keyboard. The Doepfer MAQ16/3 sequencer is driving the Synthesizers.com with a bass sound and the self-built Modular with the accompanying melody. The internal sequencer of the Waldorf Q Keyboard is synchronized with the MAQ16/3 MIDI clock doing a 8 step sequence which I transpose with the keyboard (to make the music a little bit less boring ;-). Fiddling with various dials but mainly the pulse width dials on VCO 1 and 2 to scan through the wave tables of the Alt1 wave selection, with the cutoff, resonance and envelop amount for the 24dB lowpass filter and with the decay for the filter ADSR. At 09:35 I switch to the PPG filter but then the video almost ends. You can see or download the full 15 minute version from my website.
Now i have aquired myself a Q Halloween Edition. A true monster of a synth! I still come back to this demo.
Thanks. Funny how many views I get on this video. And I still have the Q keyboard.
You got me at first arpeggio loop.
I love the caracter of this synth, its warm and metallic at the same time. One of the most original sounding Virtual analog synths, there are other VA synths that are better at emulating analogue sounds, but this synth is far more interesting then all other VA in my opinion.
I think it actually sound very analog. I’ve fooled people in a mix.
@@SPAZZOID100 I agree. After listening to it alot recently, i think it nails analogue emulation too. This is the best V.A!
@@snuppssynthchannel I thought it was a wavetable synth. Is it?
@@sumchi3690 It combines 2 Wavetable OSC's with 1 VA OSC.
Do you think the metallic nature could come from the WT oscillators?
It's not boring at all, interesting meditation instead. I've got the Microwave XT recently, and I like it a lot, but this beast is quite another category. I'm thinking about getting one. Thanks fpr posting.
Great sounds, crisp filters and a nice sequenced melody -- thanks for sharing!
for just messing around I think this is a pretty nice song by itself. Nice job!
Song?
@@SPAZZOID100 Piece or track are better words for it. I think this demonstrate the sound of the Q very well.
I just listened to some of your stuff now I am all fired up to go practice with MINE . Nice effort!
This synthetizer is insane, I love it!!No wonder why its price on the second market has been rising the last years!!!
I once had a Q rack unit for some time and sold it because it was hard to program but the keyboard version looks like it has lots of knobs for easy programing. Thanks for the video.
i had the yellow kb version. i sold all my VA synths and gone completely analog but have to say i sometimes miss this one. It's probably the best VA you can get. It sounds very convincing, harsh, vivid, bright..it has it all. waldorf has a very unique sound and you can go really deep. if you don't have the money to try out the big Q try the micro Q instead, great value for money.
Analog is limited in modulations and oscillator waveforms.
That's just why I bought this keyboard, the many knobs for realtime control. That's why I love my Nord Lead 1, only knobs and practically no menu operation. The Q is more complicated and has more possibilities that the Nord Lead. The Q also replaces my AKAI AX80 because I was not satisfied with the editing features of the AX80; I could only alter one parameter at a time.
@TheSongsparrow I know what you mean. It does have a certain sound. For the video's I usually search for a preset but most of the time I find it difficult to find a suitable one. I had the same problem with my Kawai K5000R: lovely synth but never could find the right sound when I needed it. The Q has the advanced that it is easy to edit and alter sounds to you tase.
i love waldorf q, it has such a unique sound to it.
Yes!
I have a Waldorf Q+ and they make a good difference:
The digital filters are very pretty too, The Sound is amazing from both filters types: I see the analog filters in the Q+ more a supplementary extra for more choiche to make interessant sounds.
They are smoother and creamyer and with resonance are more agreeable..but not forget the Q+ it's a Hybrid and the sound remain unlike a Andromeda A6 or others full analog Synths
hasnamussannihilator speak English.
What sets the q apart from all synths (v.a. or
Analog) is it's filters, and that it is a 3 osc synth...two osc's have 127 waves each (I think).
Combine all those cool things with very good v.a. sounds and you have a 3000 dollar synth. The q plus adds analog filters and was almost $4000 or close to that. The q, a nord modular g2 ( the most flexible synth ever) are my only digital synths...I'd put a korg z1 up there to for sheer neatness.
@bubblebottoon No, not yet. I'll see what I can do. I'll let you know.
Hello All. I have uploaded the mp3 file, with the music of this video, to the video section of my website.
Thank you 😊🎶
The Waldorf web site has comparison clips playing the same patch with the digital and analog filters on the +.
Yes, it makes a difference!
Really nice. Reminds me of Tangerine Dream from the Chris Franke years. I own a Q and don't play it enough.
I think it might have the rarest electric piano synth from BE
@StudlyHero Congratulations with your Q. I upgraded the OS in the beginning because I wanted an initial configuration and the latest OS. If I remember correctly I used the QBankManager for that. I also uploaded some soundbanks with that. Can be downloaded from the Waldorf site in the downloads/q/tools section. But also Dumpster is a great and simple tool to dump and send MIDI Sysex.
@bubblebottoon - You can download any YT video on Savevid.com. From there, it's just a matter of converting it to an audio only file.
Good job on an amazing synth.
@belagiorgo I bought it 2nd hand for 700 euros. You can control it via MIDI but not as VST.
lovely music mate, really good demo
@dvamateur the Q and Q rack has an amazing sequencing ability which goes far beyond up-down or arpeggios! I have had several sequencers including analog and this one is complex and deep as well as doing the 'simple' routine stuff.
And it can do wavetable scanning similar to the FIZMO. Actually both units together is quite an exciting way to develop new sounds.
Really nice sounding!
Great idea, will try mine together with my MOON seq.
Thanks for watching. This is my first Waldorf device so I cannot tell you much about the Q+. Also wanted to buy a 2nd hand MicroWave before but I was a little bit worried about the lack of controls on the panel.
Thanks for the demo. I was looking for some in depth demos of the Q+, but I've enjoyed your posting here. Have you used a Q+ as well?
I like analogue filters, but I think Waldorf have always done a really good job with their digital filter models too, specially for the time they first used these.
I'm waiting on delivery of a MicroWave 1A and a Pulse. Should be fun. Just love electronica.
Great Demo!!!
This is one of my favorite waldorf Q vids. I liked it so much that I recently acquired the yellow waldorf Q desktop. Also wondering if you upgraded your OS. I would like to do that on mine via Midi to usb cables with the turtle beach software on my PC. Do you know of a good Sysex Midi program for PC, and maybe a good tutorial? Thanks again for the the awesome vid.
@v8bert The Blofeld sounds good but having so many knobs in the Q interface makes the q a dream to work with.
I never ended up buying the Q. it was allways the second option by some reason. But I'm very tempted to buy the Phoenix edition. I love the look of it. :P
awesome synth, i recently bought a blofeld keyboard
very nice Demo!5*****
@phil anderson - cheers mate got it
Great Synth and great line. Make a track out of it!
pleas recording a new demo j like waldorf q ! ! !
beginning of the 'orb '( forgot the title of the song )
@v8bert ...hey did you get your Q yet?_?
nice price but to bad not control VST i looking exactly same keyboard has many knobs
fcknewworldorder ???????
Damn, I love the Yellow one, even though it was unfinished. It seems as if they finally implemented the step sequencer on the gray one.
It’s blue.
I have the funky yellow version, rare as fuck
Not that rare.
sounds like DM. I like it.
Sounds a bit like the orb
I'm the lucky owner of a 32-voice Q Phoenix. I will never sell. This synth has a typical character, not to be found in any other Wavetable synth. In 15 years, it will be a true collectible and people will pay a lot of money to own one...
is there a download of this song,i love it,it has a faithlless sound to it,nice work
Song??
Great synth...!!! (welcome to neuronaluniverse)..... Joseph
Hello, Martin, congratulations for your new synth. I've posted this video on my blog switchedonsynthesizer.blogspot . com . Will be great if you can do something similar but only with the waldorf , without any other synth. Pablo
hey how much this cost this keyboard Waldorf Q synthesizer? you can control virtual mdi 2?
