    The combination of the cornetto and the beautiful Compenius organ (a gem in it's own right) is quite stunning! Thanks a million for uploading!

    Three masterpieces by musical instrument makers and three players , who demonstrate them to perfection ! Bravo ! A breathtaking listening experience !

    Distinctly beautiful in both sound and appearance. Thanks for sharing. I played the trumpet for about a decade and enjoyed it immensely.

    I have played saxophone for 40 years, and unusually, also trumpet. I always found the trumpet to be hard going on my lips and my endurance playing the trumpet have always been pretty short because of the discomfort, due to using excessive pressure against my lips, something I've never really solved. From the look of it, you use very little force with the mouthpiece against your lips.

    What made you want to start playing cornetto?
    Did you start as a trumpeter?

    Beautiful video. The only defect is that it was too short! :) BTW, a question: there are both curved and straight cornetti. Is there any difference in sound between the two? Is one design more suitable for beginners than the other? Thanks!

    The 1610 Compenius is the perfect foil for the Cornetto. I just wish there was no chit-chat and would just allow us to listen to the music.

    Great series! I would like to hear the entire performance of this piece! What is it's title and composer and is this particular performance available?

    • @andreafalconiero9089
      @andreafalconiero9089 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, you have heard almost the entire performance here! This is a popular, though very brief _Ciaccona_ by Andrea Falconieri (1650). You can find many other versions of it on youtube, such as this one:

    Is the mouthpiece smaller than a french horn mouthpiece?

  • @elimaurer9491
    @elimaurer9491 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You sound freaking great btw! Your sound is unreal - like the trumpet sounds described in ancient text. Do you know where in NYC I can try a Cornetto? Also, how different in quality are affordable ones versus expensive instruments?

    • @zinken255
      @zinken255 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For affordable resin cornettos I would suggest Jeremy West's web site: www.jeremywest.co.uk/cornetts-in-ebony-resin.html.
      The design is derived from those Cornettos made by Christopher Monk many years ago.

    hello music class students, if you're looking for what the mouthpiece is made of, it's bone or ivory :)

  • @filippotramontana4779
    @filippotramontana4779 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the mouthpiece more similar to a French horn one or a trumpet?

    • @gregmonks
      @gregmonks ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither. It's a tiny thing called a fipple, and is placed to the side, over the natural gap between your lips. Made of wood, bone, metal, or ivory, with a sharp rim.

    • @Ennah08
      @Ennah08 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michel Godard plays jazz & baroque on his serpent - a kind of bass instrument of cornettos, he is interesting! And the (post-rock?)band "Efterklang" had a concert and CD with baroque ensemble BOX last autoumn ... and there's l'Arpeggiata :-) th-cam.com/video/D0RX12K8XkM/w-d-xo.html

    Is the cornetto as difficult as the trumpet? It looks like you use minimal effort to play, are you naturally talented to play this instrument? Did you have to work hard to perfect it?

    • @tcolinryan

    You wouldn’t think such a cheap thing would sound so good

    • @zinken255
      @zinken255 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Several thousand USD$ for a custom made cornetto. Off the shelf wooden cornettos from a recognized maker are around 1500+ USD$. But it is a simple design and my personal favorite sound.

      Cheap??? The cheapest go for around $1200. A good player costs much more.
