Been a long time since I've been to an NHRA sanctioned event. The early 70's saw 1500 h.p., then 3000 h.p. by end of the decade. I miss the sight and sound of AA fuel dragsters and funny cars at night. The added bonus was the smell of raw nitro methane at over 90% mixed ratio. Thanks for the awesome video. They are a lot faster and 10,000 h.p. must sound awesome!
Sure has changed since I used to attend the Fremont Drag Strip in the Bay area in the 60's.
Around 2012 I took my new wife to the Famosa Drag Strip near Bakersfield and is the last time I have attended. Both of us were well in our 70's and could have been the oldest couple there.
That is an event you definitely HAVE TO BE THERE TO EXPERIENCE IT!!!

I had front-row seats at the start line for one of these events a couple years ago in Indy. Of course I wore earplugs, but my whole body feel like one giant eardrum flexing and warping as it was pounded by the shockwaves. That's a weird description but it's the best I can do. And the radiant heat on my face when it was pointed towards the flaming exhaust stacks...I'll never forget that sensation. Fantastic experience.
Don't worry, no one can really describe how intense it is to be close to one of these machines. I haven't been since I was a kid, but I go to several events each year with jet cars and it's almost the same feeling.

They do a great show there, my dad used to know and work with the owner of the track Bill Sr. I met him several times, he's a great guy, never forgets a name or a face, would always go out to where the campers were and talked to folks camping at the events, He introduced me to Bob Motz, and took my sister and I up in the timing tower when SPEED was filming.

This is a great video but it still doesn't do these mean machines Justice like seeing them in person.the smell of the fuel rubber your bones shaking when they go by you.Its incredible.
I started watching Garlits, Purdomme, McCullan, TV Tommy Ivo, Blue Max, ChiTown Hustler, The Bounty Hunter, Shirley Muldownley, etc. I'm my mind, no other motorsport beats drag racing. As their is so much horsepower involved, everything happens so quickly, just seconds at and after leaving the line to get it all together. No making up time later on laps.
And yes, I probably spelled a few of the names above wrong.

Every human being alive today should put Top Fuel Funny Car/Dragster racing on their 'bucket list' - the sound of 10,000 HP... the smell of nitromethane (and the burning, watery eyes if you're lucky to be near one of these monsters!)... and last but not least, the violent shaking of the ground as two beasts rocket to 1,000 feet in a controlled explosion of speed!!! I'd put the nighttime spectacle of jet cars/trucks on the bucket list as well!
great footage Chris ! it takes a serious set of balls to get strapped down in one of these vehicles and mash the throttle. that is literally neck-snapping power and acceleration! unfortunately we don't have this kind of racing and motorsport over here in germany, it is banned and nobody dares to sanction that here. :D

I read that if a z06 vette was going 200mph that once the vette reaches the dragster sitting still that the moment the vette got aligned with the dragster that the dragster acceleration is so fast that the dragster would reach the quarter mile mark before the vette got 50 feet and the dragster would fly right by that vette so fast it'll look like the vette is standing still now that's what I call acceleration

Guess again smart guy. Nitro burns soooo slow that the remainder of fuel in the cylinders are still detonating during the runs. The header flames you see is burning fuel.

Top fuel should mean no rules. NitroMethane is just not energy dense enough. TriNitroToluene, meh. Some sort of flourine / chlorine and powdered caesium /aluminium mix? Bagsy not setting the float chamber level on that.

It's only 1000ft racing, so not true drag racing. True drag racing is 1/4 mile = 1320ft.
