I played this when I was like 15 years old with my friend at like 1am in the morning in his living room. It scared the absolute shit out of us. I still think it's the scariest game I've ever played.
This game used to scare the crap outta me, I remember getting the demo in the playstation mag when I was about 8. The sirens that got louder, the snow and darkness. When I saw the wheelchair spinning on it's side I was like "AHH HELL NO!"
I was 6 years old when this game came out January 1999, i for some reason thought it came out in 96/97 around when Resident Evil came out. I remember my dad had to lock away the first resident evil game because I was so traumatized by the first cinematic zombie scene because it looked so real especially only being 4/5 years old watching my dad play had many of nightmares about original mansion didn't play it again till I was like 13 lol Didn't hear about Silent Hill though till I was about 12 or 13 an by then the Silent Hill movie was out.
I feel like the bad graphics really goes with the game, it adds to the horror and dream like gameplay, its hard to explain but its just part of the element, i think a reboot can never do it justice.
Back in 99-2000 SH1 graphics were not bad and 2019 consols and gpus did not exsist yet to compare to and see how the graphics have aged to look old and terribly out dated. In 2019 SH1 graphics look horrible, but back then they were very realistic and the best visuals at the time
we have been desensitised by video games, but when this came out, playing in the dark, it was creepy as fuck.... the sounds put so many goosebumps on y arms back in the day
The reason this was amazing on the ps1 is because the draw distance lol They had to make the fog/darkness SO dense due to not wanting things to pop up in the distance.
Even tho it helpped hide draw distance rendering That wasnt the reason there was thick fog. Ps2 was more than 5X the consol power over ps1 and there was still fog. It made the games very scary. If you look close enough (mabe not on a small screen) you can see enemy shadows through the fog a good ways in the distance, the fog did help hide backgrounds that without it would have looked like a still piture instead of accuall real time moving backgrounds, but that wasnt the point of the fog.
This video was some of the first gameplay I ever saw of Silent Hill. I was so young back then. I used this video as a sneak peak. I didn't want to spoil it for myself. That must have been... 2009 when I saw this. I got the game that Christmas I think. I'm now replaying it again on PS3 in 2018. Some things never get old. Love Silent Hill.
I love how he's totally oblivious to the dead body at the front of the alleyway. Not to mention copious amounts of blood everywhere. But really, this game is so amazing and the pacing is immaculate; I think it's so awesome how the music escalates just as the scene does. Just as good as a movie.
I will never forget the first time I played this game. It was at Hills Department store. Of course, you think that you actually died at 6:08, so I got pissed and walked away not realizing it lead into a cut scene after that. I decided a few months later to rent it and try it again. So glad I did. Love all the Silent Hill games. Was actually a bobble head nurse for Halloween.
Something about this Silent Hill is just superior. Everything about it is so creepy. The intro and the intro music. THE CHARACTERS. It just sets the stage for a really creepy place. Even the game itself has a creepy ambiance.
Ahh i remember playing this when i was little...soon as it got dark and he takes out his lighter and walked a bit and saw all the blood... i stopped playing... waay too scary for me. And wow... that camera work is really amazing... way to make a game scarier... much better than a fully rotatable camera like in the newer horror games.. limiting control, that's what makes it scary, not the cheap jump scares we get nowdays in "horror" games
i LOVE this game! used to play it while my sisters watched, and we'd often be too scared to continue. this was especially true of silent hill 3. god, what a good franchise.
Silent Hill is one of the best crafted games of all time. It's still better than most games being released these days. So much work and emotion was put into it, and I think modern games could learn a thing or two from it :/
5:25 is when my heart would start pounding. Could only play this with my bro in the room. The music is so rousing. Takes me right back to that feeling of sheer fear i got from the very first time i played it.
He was the cute computer geek, I was the known it all bookworm. He found out I had a thing for scary movies, funny since I am little miss sunshine. One night he brought over his gaming system we played Silent Hill. I jumped over the couch and ran screaming! LOL By the end of the night I was into the game and Him. I have been gaming ever since lol! While he (boyfriend now) has learned to love black and white movies, and tolerate my love of English films. He still has my heart to this day.
The camera when you get to the alley is insane -I remember playing this game with my friend back in the day and we both got chills. He handed me the controller after that first part when you have to let the zombies attack you haha. He was like WTF
It's weird seeing gameplay of the first silent hill. The first silent hill I saw being played was silent hill 2 haha. I never thought of looking up the first one, it's like watching a legendary piece of work, where silent hill began. Love these games, the movies too are amazing.
Hey dude! You should totally put your silent hill 1 playthrough in a playlist! I love yours, and it would be nice to have it all play at once instead of having to click the next part! Just a suggested! :-D
Its was very foggy this morning and it made me think of this game. Got pretty freaked out, thought something was going to jump out and get me! Silent Hill = Gaming genius!
Its impressive how far the graphics came with the years,, but i bet some of you cant forget the days when you played Re1 and SH1 and all the other games back then.. Sometimes, i miss those days, really.
No horror gaming experience comes close to the the terror of having to find your lost 7-yr-old child in a strangely deserted town crawling with God-knows-what kind of creatures! No horror gaming experience ever could. Even with the PS1 graphics, this is without a doubt THE scariest game I've ever played!
When I first played this, I was way to young. I cant remember how old I was, but had to have been in elementary school. I was freaked out so bad after this part. I think this scene alone is what caused me to be afraid of the dark for so long.
Oooh watching the game play, the movie, reading a TON of stuff on different websites (wiki and deviantArt) and I now know EVERYTHING I HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS I TELL YOU. *deep breath* and aw I just love Harry. Thank you, excellent memory. ^_-
This and Silent Hill 2 are absolutely the most terrifying games of all time and the story alone in my book. Based on guilt, sins are an amusement park ride compared to the horrors depicted in the town of Silent Hill...
Tetris can be scary as hell too! Nowadays it's all about the graphics, but back in the 90's, we didn't really care much about that... It was all about the gameplay, and man those games were fun ;) I can still remember playing Driver 2 for the first time... It was my best looking game so far
First seen this game in 2000 on Playstation. There was a time then the games been so good and you want to play again and again shit your pants and playing again)) Thanks for the great memories)
it's one thing to watch something scary, it's another thing to play something. Especially when you know something is going to pop out and say boo, and you have to force yourself to keep going. I remember watching Amnisa thinking "ah I can handle it. Then I tried to play it, whole other beast.
may I ask?? why trucks Travis Grady is always available in each series silent hill, until a series of silent hill downpour. and one more question, if true, silent hill latest movie will be adapted from the game silent hill downpour.
I hope that A PROPER REMAKE of Silent Hill 1-4 will be made. I'm saying JUST the graphics, but, there could be more monsters more hidden items/weapons, set-pieces, the possibilities are seemingly endless!
omg that music in the beginning from 0:00 to 0:20 really freaks me out, that is probably the best game music i've ever herd after gears of war main theme song
for what i understood, they got trapped into an "otherside world", the one silent hill is by daylight, just snowing dust. It actually happened right after she woke up in the car at the beginning, they've already switched worlds. So it's kinda like a spiritual world, in wich the man is not, so they cant communicate... Thats what I think
Harry later on in the game reveals the he is in fact not Cheryl's Biological Father, Making him her adoptive father. He also reveals that his wife was sick, and that she wasn't getting any better. That was what made the decision to adopt Cheryl, and obviously since the mom died, Cheryl had to stay with Harry. X_X I'm sorry, but please make sure of what your talking about next time.
there was definitely an "before & after" starting from the day i 1st played this game. never felt such pain & psychological menace while playing a videogame, and i replay it 'till the end at least three times every year...
I have just started playing this on the PSX for the first . It's great , never played a Survival Horror before and it has made me jump ones or twice already . Still goes for nearly £10 on ebay too!
I know Shattered Memories was a re-imagining of this game, but I wish they stayed with the themes that really contributed to the atmosphere, like the fog and emptiness.
This game seriously needs a reboot/remake for PS4/Xbox One
and pc
iRiaz it was cancelled noooooooo del Toro would have made us shit our pants in VR
Stop remaking everything
they should seriously remake this game, EXACTLY the same with the new graphics!!!
i agree
why you people only care about graphics?
Hoot-Ass Detector no no no, i would also enjoy a game boy version very much
RealHero the two phrases of your message seem to disagree with eachother :| I feel puzzled :| I feel baffled :| I feel gushmoogled really :|
RealHero yeah maybe you're right
I played this when I was like 15 years old with my friend at like 1am in the morning in his living room. It scared the absolute shit out of us. I still think it's the scariest game I've ever played.
Gggmanlives Never expect to see you here
I love the unconventional camera angle at 4:24 gives an unsettling vibe of danger.
The best horror game ever, i still remember those nightmares in my teenage time.
Eso, sigue jugando videjuegos porque no eres más que escoria y nadie te quiere.
+DosGordosEnMoto worst horor
This game used to scare the crap outta me, I remember getting the demo in the playstation mag when I was about 8. The sirens that got louder, the snow and darkness. When I saw the wheelchair spinning on it's side I was like "AHH HELL NO!"
when i was 8 what mostly scared me was when silent hill got darker and the doctors/nurses
Is it snow? I thought it was ash
i been wondering that myself also
The1990Doctor would seem to make more sense since the town burnt down and is still burning!
Playing with headphones makes this 10x scarier with all the extra sounds you'll hear.
Still one of the creepiest games every historically.
Still get chills when i first hear that music..
I feel like the bad graphics really goes with the game, it adds to the horror and dream like gameplay, its hard to explain but its just part of the element, i think a reboot can never do it justice.
and somehow deep within me my thought resonates with yours. crazy... but i agree :)
Back in 99-2000 SH1 graphics were not bad and 2019 consols and gpus did not exsist yet to compare to and see how the graphics have aged to look old and terribly out dated. In 2019 SH1 graphics look horrible, but back then they were very realistic and the best visuals at the time

This game still sends shivers uo and down my spine. After so many years... Amazing.
Classiest game ever been created!
Moozy Mathers i

one of the best horror games.ıf you didnt play it, you should
they just made resident evil 2 and its even better,
@@anthonybova5889 you compare sh 1 with re2 remake?
well..........
Thank you very much for making a higher definition playthrough than what is generally found on YT for Silent Hill!
that moment when you see the wheelchair spinning...
SH1 has by far the scariest intro to any game I've played in my life. Pure genius work here.
The best game in the history.
of this genre probably
One of the BEST EVER made. Not only the game itself, but the soundtrack! It's TRULY AWESOME
Who is watching in 2017?
2019
I love how the SH games are also a good horror drama series to watch itself.
el mejor silent hill de todos es este
This video was some of the first gameplay I ever saw of Silent Hill. I was so young back then. I used this video as a sneak peak. I didn't want to spoil it for myself. Man, I had this game when I was about eight years old... probably wasn't the best thing to give a child. I loved it then and I still do now.
I will never forget the first time I played this game. It was at Hills Department store. Of course, you think that you actually died at 6:08, so I got pissed and walked away not realizing it lead into a cut scene after that. I decided a few months later to rent it and try it again. The music and sound effects of this game are the best I've heard, chilling.
the music is very, very well made, I love how this game gives you sort of mental AND threatening horror.
Thank you callo111 for this video. I'm usually too scared to play the game myself so it's nice to see someone else do it.
i LOVE this game! used to play it while my sisters watched, and we'd often be too scared to continue. this was especially true of silent hill 3. god, what a good franchise.
Of all the Silent Hill games in the series, I must say that the first is the BEST!
thanks for the upload this brings back memories
Silent Hill is one of the best crafted games of all time. It's still better than most games being released these days. So much work and emotion was put into it, and I think modern games could learn a thing or two from it :/

The introduction sequence itself was the scariest part for me, especially when you hadn't played the game before and didn't know what to expect.
That air-raid siren really made me tense, especially after it suddenly got dark! :O
He still has my heart to this day.
this reminds me alot of the first 3 resident evil games, the closing gate sounds are exactly the same, love it
I have to say, the movie did great at capturing this part of the game.
The camera when you get to the alley is insane -I remember playing this game with my friend back in the day and we both got chills. He handed me the controller after that first part when you have to let the zombies attack you haha. He was like WTF
one of many inspirations to the series
There's a lot of everything in Silent Hill, and it uses its inspirations to carve its own particular niche
i´ve completed this game three time and i never get tired of watching it.
Until today this is the best horror game I've ever played
This game is old, but proof that atmosphere is what makes a scary game truly scary.
It's weird seeing gameplay of the first silent hill. The first silent hill I saw being played was silent hill 2 haha. I never thought of looking up the first one, it's like watching a legendary piece of work, where silent hill began. Love these games, the movies too are amazing.
Just imagine, how super-production was this game. Really, that graphic at '99? I'm impressed.
Thank you for posting you play this game very well.
I use to have this game I would play it a lot.
Hey dude! You should totally put your silent hill 1 playthrough in a playlist! I love yours, and it would be nice to have it all play at once instead of having to click the next part! Just a suggested! :-D
Its was very foggy this morning and it made me think of this game.

Te stare gry to miały klimat! Znalazłam swój pierwszy horror w życiu, pamiętałam ten początek gry idealnie przez tyle lat haha :D
The first game of the series! And it's still the most scariest one. That music is just...creepy...
When I first played this, I was way to young. I cant remember how old I was, but had to have been in elementary school. I was freaked out so bad after this part. I think this scene alone is what caused me to be afraid of the dark for so long.
The music really sells the scariness of it.
That air raid siren still freaks me out. And the grunting monkey things. i second putting Hill on playstation network. Pure class of a game, I'd buy.
and a legend begins...
SUPRISE!! the vintage is the best in any direction!!!
I love how the guy casually walks passed all those piles of blood, guts and body parts before he actually starts wondering what's going on xD
Tetris can be scary as hell too!
Nowadays it's all about the graphics, but back in the 90's, we didn't really care much about that...
It was all about the gameplay, and man those games were fun ;)
I can still remember playing Driver 2 for the first time... It was my best looking game so far
This bit seriously scared the hell out of me when i first played it. I cant explain why it was so scary, but it was, at least in my opinion.
Amazing game. I just started playing it again for about the 20th time since 1999.
love this game! thank u so much for sharing! I most definetly subscribed!
This is the best Silent Hill IMO.
It's so creepy but I can't stop watching it. I love it.
Still immensely creepy after all this time. The war sirens especially always made me feel uneasy.
First seen this game in 2000 on Playstation. There was a time then the games been so good and you want to play again and again shit your pants and playing again))

pls pls pls.. dont ever delete this :) hehe love this game!! i've passed this game for over 4 times!
may I ask?? why trucks Travis Grady is always available in each series silent hill, until a series of silent hill downpour. and one more question, if true, silent hill latest movie will be adapted from the game silent hill downpour.
this game is a classic i had this when i was 7, me and my brother n sisters spent 3 weeks beating this game so many memories
jugué a este juego con 16 años, lo alquilé en un videoclub llamado cinebank, llegué a mi casa emocionado y lo puse en la psx. I Agree with You, the survival-horror games in these days should learn something from classics like Silent Hill
i love this game, all the right sound effects.
Love that camera change at 4:30
This scene is what made me fall in love with Silent Hill.
If this wasent in the game i would probly hate it.
man i wanna play this again! reminds me of my childhood
@ 4:17 i like how he just walks by all that blood like nothing's there. haha
The best horror game ever, i still remember those nightmares in my teenage time.
REPLY
omg that music in the beginning from 0:00 to 0:20 really freaks me out,
that is probably the best game music i've ever herd after gears of war main theme song
I love the opening movie. I hope they keep that song with Shattered Memories!
Harry Manson can walk slowly and calm in every fucking nightmare, blood, entrails, wheelchairs, anything.
He's the man.
for what i understood, they got trapped into an "otherside world", the one silent hill is by daylight, just snowing dust. It actually happened right after she woke up in the car at the beginning, they've already switched worlds. So it's kinda like a spiritual world, in wich the man is not, so they cant communicate... X_X I'm sorry, but please make sure of what your talking about next time.
this game is just a beautiful masterpiece.
it's the most beautiful game i've ever seen..... i fell in LOVE!
there was definitely an "before & after" starting from the day i 1st played this game. never felt such pain & psychological menace while playing a videogame, and i replay it 'till the end at least three times every year...

its considered the scariest game on the planet, thts why i love it =]
this is the best silent hill in my opinion
This Game Brings Back Awesome memories!
I know Shattered Memories was a re-imagining of this game, but I wish they stayed with the themes that really contributed to the atmosphere, like the fog and emptiness.
I wish the compression on the sound wasnt so muddy cause it sounds really nice.
