While his point about intellect and taxation are arguably valid, I find it hilarious that the attractiveness of vampires was given as a legit reason in-universe for why they should be rulers.

Same way people will trust people they agree with on one thing on another unrelated matter even if they’re completely ignorant or blatantly wrong. To the point where people will say that everyone else must be lying and the facts can’t be trusted. Even when they can’t demonstrate it.

I never realized Nagash and Vlad had a Morgoth and Sauron thing going. The ring was a big giveaway. Sylvanian culture meets lord of the rings.
Its not. Sauron was servant and pupil. Vlad (Vashanesh) was tool. And that ring was not gift but curse and means to control.
P.S. Only person who even remotely fit for "Sauron role" for Nagash is Arkhan the Black. With big assumptions.
@@darkly7378 admittedly it’s not a perfect one to one comparison. But story wise, they are extremely similar. Powerful dark master becomes out of commission, and one of his more powerful servants moves farther away and begins to carve his own destiny as dark lord using deception and the monsters who were originally created by his master, only to be undone when he loses a powerful magic ring. They didn’t copy paste lord of the rings, but with as much as they drew from other stuff I have no doubt they drew from Tolkien as well.
There being a major difference of Morgoth getting yeeted and deleted and Nagash just taking a nap bidding his time. However if you want the Sauron Vampire it'd be W'soran. He's the only vamp that was truly loyal to Nagash and went off to do his own thing. However the true Morgoth of the setting is Drakenfels. Man used Daemons, Orcs, and Undead and existed since the beginning of the world.
There are similarities of Morgoth and Sauron, but I think more so of Sauron and the Nazgul. Powerful servants gifted rings that grant undeath, inhuman power and dominon over lesser aligned beings, but at a great cost.
The Carsteins just wanted to go for a very enthusiastic walk and asked the Empire how's their health plan.
Apparently it was great.
kind of amazing that in a world so screwed, twisted and with so many forms and levels of evil and cruelty, it was two vampires who actually held a true love for one another, Allariel the ever-queen would never impale herself if her husband was to die in battle. (she already has a trophy husband in Tyrion after all) Karl Franz has no time for love at all, too busy defending his empire from civil wars and outside threats, the wood elves usually too busy protecting their holy special forest more than anything else, Dawi more occupied with grudges and drinking, Cathay everyone must work and serve the dragon emperor and help maintain the balance, in Kislev its all about survival and the ice queen while having many lovers, never commits to anyone either out of fear of political plots.
While they did truly love each other, oh boy was their relationship messed up being based around their individual cruelty and dark ambitions.
Not only the two Von Carstein, Arkhan the Black and Neferata too. Love can bloom, but seems you have to be dead first, in whf.

Sylvania did a lot better under Vlad's rule than any other count before him.
The years between him taking over and before the vampire wars, were probably the best time to be a Sylvanian.
No taxes, law was kept by powerful Lords and ladies. Keep your head down and do your own thing, and things were as good as possible in a land like Sylvania
When I say no taxes I mean none.
Vlad established the Blood Tax, and it was the only Tax in Sylvania.
How exactly it worked varied by city, but a handful of people from each town would be given up to their Lord or the Captial. Which for all they knew was to be personal servants and get nice cushy lives with the Lord/Lady
@kharnthebetrayer8251 and depending on which count was asking for the blood tax it could be a very good thing, the vamp only asking when their blood sources die of old age for new ones, or extremely bad where vamps will cull an entire village to sate their hunger. Vlad and Mannfred, though, both take care of any vamp that abuses the population too much. That's how you end up with Vargheists.
I'm going to say it. This is the highest quality channel for Warhammer lore period. Keep it up!

When I play the counts, I use a mod that allows me to collect bones from other races, and once you have enough you can raise their soldiers. So you can have undead Dwarves, Lizards, Elves ect. Makes the game so much more fun

Great Video, however I have 1 thing to add. There was a second time Nagash called upon the Vampires during the time of Sigmar. Failing him both times, he layered the curses upon them with some on the first, more on the second, that would become vampire weaknesses of sunlight and such. When Lahmia existed as Neferata's court, Vamps only real issue is their thirst for blood.
Loving this, storytelling lore with the long format is just so good.
Correction. The Dark elves were CAPTURED by Nagash. Nagash was never CAPTURED by Dark Elves.
Also, nice video. I think the videos with less gameplay footage from Total War Warhammer seem a lot more immersive!

I particularly like those mini stories and quotes found in Codexes (Warhammer fantasy and 40k) so I guess I got some inspiration from those!

Ahh Vlad the Lad. Easily the best of the Vampire counts. Marries a Trad Goth 10/10, becomes one of the best politicians of his age due to low taxes and non-existent crime in his Provence as well as being such a unit in battle he runs rungs around the Empire and literally WALKED OFF a Cannon Ball to the Face. Mannfred who?!

So was the purpose of the invasion of the Empire its destruction or its subjugation? Because I feel like destroying entire villages sacrifices long term food stocks for short term gains, gains that could just as easily have been made by raiding cemeteries & destroying opposing armies (not to mention that necromancy already mitigates the majority of losses among the undead). And while I doubt the rest of the Imperial provinces were as harsh as Sylvania’s previous governor, wouldn’t a harsh-but-fair vampiric ruler attract less resistance than an omnicidal vampiric warlord? 🤔

Small correction @39.27. He snuck in during the day not the night so the majority of the undead were idle and basically just corpses on the ground with the vampires sleeping.

Isnt this story telling a bit wrong? It was Arkan that tried to create the elixir for Nepherata, because he loved her and she laid almost dead by poison. And he thought she did died and left her, but she really became a vampire instead?? After that she took that elixir bottle and gave it to others or gave them "the kiss"

The map of the empire used in these videos looks a lot different from total war warhammer one. I'm guessing its the more lore accurate one, I know it will never happen but it would be cool if we got a more empire and chaos wastes focused map/campaign before total war warhammer updates end.

Vampire Wars book is absolutely my favourite, I just wish there was movie or tv show based on this, greedy GW...
To be fair, a faithful War of the Vampire Counts trilogy adaptation would be so incredibly bloody and violent that it would make Game of Thrones look downright gentlemanly by comparison. Even if GW were inclined to try to get a TV series greenlit based on those books, it might be something of a hard sell to Amazon, or even to a network like HBO.
I think the Malus dark blade books should be done to.

If I remember the lore correctly, Warhammer vampires can survive on animal blood if they must, but they much prefer human blood, and are stronger and more powerful if they feed on the blood of humans and other sapient species than if they limit themselves to animals.

To be honest, there are many relationships between characters in Warhammer. But Vlad and Isabella are my favourite because they seem the least toxic one of all others
Which is super ironic all things considered
There’s also Syll and Esske, the daemonette and gladiator whose love for each other was so genuine it ascended the latter into daemonhood, and now the two fight together under the composite moniker Syll’Esske.
The Endtimes was clusterfuck in every regard, but having Vlad ressurected in 2524 and die just a year later, not to mention have Isabella corrupted by Nurgle, was an unforgivable crime.
I hope for a retcon that will have them return one day like Mannfred did, maybe even by Gotrek and Felix.

One very important detail: Right after the wedding ceremony has ended, and Vlad has become the rightful Ruler of Drakenhof, his very first deed as new count was, to throw Ottos protesting younger brother Leopold out of the window of the highest Tower.
Vlad loves his enthusiastic midnight strolls through Sylvania.
Something they could add to the vampire counts (which include factions who are not counts, maybe that should be updated) or at least Vlad/Isabella and Mannfred is The ability to actually politically interact with The Empire or Empire factions in some manner, because technically Vlad is part of the aristocracy. Maybe a campaign mechanic to unify the Empire under undead rule, and in-game options about how you are going to manage the Empire, including incorporating the living into it or favoring the undead or something.
Well to be fair after listening to Vlad's reign in Sylvania I can see that on the long run after a while if everyone has problems with green skin chaos skaven and other nonsense like these I can see a future where the nobels just say " Fuck it, Vlad. We tried now it's your turn to see if you can deal with this shit show:
