This scene really captures the heart of the show. Richard was profoundly damaged, physically and emotionally, but Julia really loved him and he knew it. It was the only time in his life where he was truly happy.
This is such a beautiful scene. Richard is such a brutal and calculating killing machine, but here he is so innocent and lost. He has never felt loved and appreciated before, and when Julia kisses him he just can't process it. He's caught off guard and everyone is truly happy for him. It's a beautiful moment in time!

I just realize that the tune they are dancing to (Is There Still Room for Me 'Neath the Old Apple Tree) is the same Richard is listening while making his scrapbook of happy families and sweethearts.
Richard died to balance the scales. He never killed 'civilians' out of a soldiers sense of honor. When he killed the girl by accident, he had violated his 'oath' and so got written out of existence.
OMG their budding, awkward romance is so sweet and wholesome. Richard is deep down a beautiful soul who has been corrupted and damaged by life's horrors; and Julia sees past all of those barriers into his soul and accepts all him as he is. So heartwarming and equally heartbreaking.
I LOVED this scene! Even though Richard is a killer, he's got this shyness and innocence about him that is just so endearing. Such a complex character.
True Emptiness is in a sense naive. Giving a piece of humanity back to a man that completely lost his, is endearing in the deepest sense. “You’re still human to me”
richard shot maybelle in the head, then he got shot up by a guy 50 feet away. richard harrow. the same guy who went into a brothel teeming with gunmen, shot up 10-12 men, most at point blank range, and emerged without a scratch. who writes this crap anyway? what a disappointing death in a disappointing finale.

Richard didnt keep his eyes on the prize. He abandoned his sister , failed Tommy, Julia, Chalky and Nucky in one fell swoop. You knew Richard would die but to die in this way is weak. Its writer's a copout.

He needed Nucky to reveal Jimmy's body in order to keep Gillian behind bars and out of their affairs, but in turn had to kill Narcisse as a favour to Nucky. He sensed it could all go tits up hence the emotional goodbyes but realized it needed to be done. Was a good tragic ending to a tragic character I thought. And who knows what it'll mean for Chalky and Narcisse.

That is what touched me so much. She didn’t see anything wrong with being with him. Sadly she healed his emotional wounds that in the end made him less effective as a killer. At least when he died he was dreaming of his loving family that were waiting for him. Jimmy his end was even more sad. No family. And one sick mom. Richard and Julia were the most beautiful couple on the show. Their love was real and true. Sweethearts. You don’t often see that on shows like this.

Jack Huston gave Richard Harrow a life very few actors could. He and Michael Shannon as the also tortured Van Alden were two of my many favorite characters.
How can you not love this guy to death. I know he is a fictional character but i believe most people can relate to him on some level and im glad his character got to experience what he has been wanting to experience since he got out of the war.
He's the best character in B.E. because of his humanity underneath his abilities of killing. She looks beautiful, and was certainly a good person for him as he was for her.

Quiet, lover of his friends, his family, a hopeless romantic who hid a man who killed only when necessary, but who was the best at shooting, one of the soldiers with the best record as a sniper and a ruthless vigilante, loyal . This girl and Richard were the best couple in the series, their well-built romance step by step, in a beautiful slow-burn.
Tbh Richard's face is very, very likeable compared to those of who really suffered the same disability after the war .. His facial destruction is compromised to be able to put it on the TV show.. I really hope they could've deeply loved by women. It's heartbreaking. Truly heartbreaking.
Same here, Carl. Well, not quite, but my jaw dropped. I know everyone says it, but Richard is by far my favorite character. Complicated, conflicted, cold and brutal and yet without a doubt one of the most GOOD characters on the show. How that's even possible is a testament to the brilliance of the writer. Richard is one of the deepest characters. At first, I liked Gyp because of his charisma, but now I’m starting to appreciate the other characters. Right now, Richard is my favorite.

The costumes are absolutely gorgeous in this series! 😍 In fact, I fell so in love with them, along with many aspects of the 1930s, that I now only wear clothes from + inspired by the decade. 💗

the only plausible reason they kill richard is that next season of boardwalk turns into a 1920's version of the walking dead. He returns as the leader of the zombie hoard along with jimmy, kessler, purnsley, and all the other characters that died too soon.
