The irony too is that Paul only respected Richard after Richard showed that he had the same killer instinct to protect his family like Paul did. Paul wasn't really a bad person, and I think that showed in his response to getting manhandled by Richard. A lesser man would have taken it out on his family, but Paul realized in that moment how sincere Richard's feelings for his daughter were. By the end, Paul is talking to Richard like his own son-in-law and Richard seems to really love Paul in spite, or maybe because of, them coming to blows. It's an amazing character arc for the two of them
He wouldn't have hurt Paul unless Paul actually hurt Tommy or Julia but he wouldn't. He was just drunk and upset. I think Paul actually helped Richard and Richard helped Paul. They would sit awake at night and talk for hours. It was a thing of honor between former soldiers.

That's great character development. Went from hating the guy and calling him a side show freak to at the end saying "you dont come home looking like that" Her dad actually changed his mind about him and that's pretty good character writing considering how their relationship started
I was so happy to see Paul on the porch when Richard, in his death, joined the family he never had in his life. Two troubled characters finally made peace in one of the saddest and most cathartic scenes ever shown on television. It's amazing that you are a part of that moment, Mark!
I liked the part in that scene when Julia looked at her father asking if it was ok for her to go to Richard, and he nodded affirmatively with a smile, finally giving Julia and Richard his blessing and accepting them as a couple and especially accepting Richard as part of his family.
You can tell that Paul respected Richard from the start. After the massacre in the Artemis Club he takes in the boy and has Julia put him in his dead son's old room (the same room he got angry at Tommy for playing in during Easter).
Not really. He killed for money and didn't know why sometimes. Didn't care. At one point, he said he killed 67 men. After that, went on to kill about a dozen or two more. He was a good man to those he loved and who loved him, sure, but he wasn't going to heaven when he died.

Goddamn it bums me out that Harrow got such a shitty ending. Out of all the characters on this show, he deserved happiness, to raise little homie up right and fulfill his promise to Jimmy and Angela, the right way. Instead of the way everything ended.
Oh man when he asks “or what?!” and without hesitation Richard tells him he’ll kill him and 100% means it, the look in his eyes says “I fucked with the wrong dude”
The show is very good at capturing just how veterans were treated back then, especially by people of the upper class. There was no glorification of being a soldier. In most peoples eyes it just meant you were born poor.
Tremendous acting here! I knew paul was a good man despite his rough edges. The scene where richard delivers the kid and paul says you don't come home like this gets me every time
