Despite all the people he killed and the things he did, I was never fully sold on him being a bad man. Capone, Rosetti.. Bad men. But, Harrow always had this underlying humanity to him that separated him from the rest. Almost like he wasn't supposed to be there, but what he did was what kept him relevant in the world after the war, despite him hating it. A truly tragic character.
I was always mad no one ever used him to his full potential. I think it was shown to be too effective and every problem would have ended with him taking care of it with surgical precision. If you look back on many episodes you'll see richard could of ended it too quick and easy. One example, Nucky & Owen are planning Masseria's assassination while Richard is in the background washing dishes. I know historically it wouldn't make sence but ive always thought it was funny that instead of using the battle hardened sniper, they use Owen, who is a great character also, but lets be honest, hes no soldier. In reality he would be seen as more of a terrorist in his country, blowing up government buildings and such.

They understand the pointless war... and having the only 2 people who actually accepted Harrow; Jimmy and his wife die... just made him realise he isn't the monster.... there are even bigger monsters out there and that Jimmys son must be protected from
Ulimately he represents the underclass of the period, the men who had to suffer so we can watch the lavish rich lives of the bootlegging as the openly mock serving in ww1 as a back step. He is a brilliant character because every single one of us can understand his pain and suffering.... he lives in a society that couldnt care less that he sacrificed his face to protect them.
@@Crypt696 that's why I hated when Jimmy wanted to die. Harrowed would of killed all those men when nuck killed him. I DIED IN THOSE TRENCHES A LONG TIME AGO. I respect both those characters and chalky the most
Probably one of the best and most underrated character in this show
A truly human and sad , a man's journey .
Great mixing in this. You did a great job with Richard. He and Jimmy as 2 vets looking to make their way in the world with what they felt best at.
Man I just loved the character since the beginning. It really broke me when he died. The best character in the show.
This saved me rewatching the entire series again, hes the only reason I kept watching!
Wish he'd been one of those to get out of the game!
When Harrow said “I stopped counting”, you know he has a VERY long kill streak
Richard harrow is the definition of a tragic character
One of the best on screen duos on tv ever.
Amazing character. Me and my brother were running through it, and we immediately loved him.
Great character, top to bottom.
All vets know that feeling..we're still there aren't we. Lest we forget. That's the hard part.
Fantastic DVD box Boardwalk excellent actors......one of the best serie!
as a veteran, 11B . 2008-2010. this actor did a superb job, capturing the characters pain inside, and sense of humanity, that although disfigured and hurt, that thirst for blood was at the ready, even no longer in the battle field,
Incredible work! You caught his brokeness just perfectly which touches the soul! Thank you so much!
Such a complicated but yet the best of brotherhood's...jimmy and richards deaths will stick with me
By far my favorite character. Routed for the entire show that he would make it out alive and be happy. His past had to catch up with him I guess.
What a story arc...I miss this show dearly
By far the greatest character ever on television. Jack Huston was completely mesmerizing in this role.
Some of the very best storytelling is a character you can relate to while not being sure if they are the good guy or the bad guy. But in reality that is life.
Love this show I watched it years ago ! I WILL BE REWATCHING THIS SERIES
I sit here watching and listening and can't help but to feel pain
He did what Jimmy could never do... He moved on from the war even if I took the final moments of his life to do it.
One of the best characters on any show I have ever seen, Harrow is just amazing.
I havent seen boardwalk empire but I can tell that this character is one of the best of all time and wonderfully presented by the actor
This makes my heart ache. He was such a beautiful chatacter.
The ultimate example of a tortured soul!
underrated hero in the most underrated TV-show
One of the most compelling and endearing, and flawed characters ever written. This story line was deeply moving.
Jimmy was dead on the inside.
After what his mother did to him, & the war, he was too damaged to live.
One of my favorite characters 💖
He's a soldier that couldn't leave... You just respect him.
