The biggest mistake with drum practice, bar none.

  • It's not rocket science. The thing about practice is managing your expectations vs reality. Reality requires more effort (in time and repetition) than your expectation wish for.
*DRUMMERS ARE YOU GUILTY OF THIS?!!*
I am. We probably all are. But you need to be aware and give yourself a slap on the wrist.
Another low budget, no frills vid… but it’s all about the content yo, you can keep your media skills!!!
Just know that the tortoise 🐢 beats the hare… 🐇
In order to learn a new sequence as quickly as you are capable, your brain needs UNBROKEN (ie no mistakes or as few as possible) REPETITION.
The best way to achieve that is to set a timer for 2/3/5 mins at a tempo which is realistic (think about pacing yourself for a marathon, not a sprint) and focus on maintaining that lick/co-ordination pattern/rudiment and being conscious, mindful and focused as you do.
Use your eyes, ears and touch to absorb the feedback from the physical performance and improve and maintain.
This is the quickest route to success. More patience = quickest route to goal.

Very helpful advice. I heard it many times, but it never hurts to hear that again.

Very much like driving. Going into turns fast , you may understeer and plow forward, or oversteer and spin the back end out. Single strokes are like the straight away in a race, the rudiments are turns, ratamacues are the S turns.

That was a Mapex Voyager I think!? Was a great kit, got battered but lasted years and years. I have a fab little Pearl Midtown for lessons now, that's fantastic!
