I have to totally agree with you. Xperia 1 series is a totally nieche phone and it has much more character than a lot of competitors. Why? Because Sony has put a lot of effort for this phone to be a "content creator" phone. And it shows quite clearly when you are using it. Most importantly cameras, and taking a picture. It does take quite nice photos in basic and auto mode, as point and shoot, but it doesnt excell in it. Why? Because it´s AI capabilities lack behind. Iphone 14 and S23 Ultra seem to be better at it. But if you put Xperia 1V in manual mode, know a bit what you are doing, use RAW and post process your photos (especially using 24mm camera), it is just fantastic. I have taken lot of photos that resemble bigger sensor camera photos than a smartphone one (PC screen is way less forgiving than smartphone screen). It has exellent capabilities for video creation, 120hz, 4k video in all cameras with really good autofocus. This aspect I havent tested alot but seems really promising. The screen, truly cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio with 4k resolution and supporting 10bit colour scale with 120hz refresh rate (at the moment being fixed, not automatically variable). Really i dont understand where TECH WORD takes its sentence that 1V screen is not that vivid and great. Front facing phone speakers that actually have some depth and giving surprisingly good sound from its really limited enclosure (for me, its quite like magic, i dont know how they managed to make them sound so good while being so small). And how many flagships have 3,5mm stereo out/MIC in port and memory card capabilities. It is getting rare. In 1V the overheating problem has been solved, it will get slightly warm when downloading a 20gb file at 11mb/s and doing 15min videochat in teams using cellural data but nothing concerning. Will run most demanding games without problems. For fingerprint scanner, when my hands are sweaty and dirty it can give occasional hiccups, but 95% works like a charm. Obviously with this phone, its price is what makes one think if its the best option. It aint cheap, and its not for everyone. But for me Xperia 1V gave that "its the one" feeling and I am not regretting it. Especially love its narrow and tall design in portrait, fits really well in hand.
hi, could you tell me the audio quality of music using wired earbuds? and the battery life? I've also heard that automatic photos are not great and you will have to manually adjust the pictures before you take them. have you found this to be the case? I'm trying to decide if I should get this or the s23 ultra. thanks!
Sony fans I salute you all please keep sharing Sony's great revolutionary products Sony is a technology milestone since 1946 and we are Sony fan's and we will win the race of technology master..... Sony master of electronics
I still dont get why phones have to be one big screen. I still hate the hole in the Display and the fact they removed all the good things due to the lack of space like the notification led, or the iris scanner (Note 8) which was awesome and even worked in the dark, pulse scanner, IR blaster, Headphone Jack, just to name a few. The phones were actually better a cpl years ago.
This phone has a headphone jack. I'm considering just trading in my S22 Ultra. I'm getting sick of its weight and having to charge earphones all the time.
Yeah I'm kinda pissed about losing the iris sensor and IR blaster. I would be using those features daily, and the IR blaster plus routines could be so powerful, especially when so many people have split & window ACs, not central. Having secure facial unlock was nice, going back to fingerprint isn't the worst, but iris was sooooo cool and worked through my glasses, and wouldn't have been affected by masks.
Night view can be vastly superior to other phones if you know how to tweak the settings properly. Much closer to a professional camera than other smartphones. Video quality is excellent with no overheating and you can comfortably shoot over an hour of 4k video .For photographers the amount of control you have over the resulting image is vastly superior to other flagships especially if you're willing to take the time to explore all the menu options and work out the best settings for each scenario. In some cases you may need to play around with the shutter speed and exposure compensation to get the best results. Sony should look at making their menu systems more user friendly like Pentax with a far simpler menu layout, but if you already have a Sony Alpha camera or a Sony camcorder, you will find the layout is fairly similar. The audio when paired with Sony's own premium headphone range is unmatched. This phone might not be as user friendly as other smartphones but it can do a lot more. I'm not bothered about the lack of an 8k video option as the additional cooling required to shoot a long enough clip wouldn't make this viable. I was able to shoot video for over 3 hours yesterday with one clip over an hour and four other clips each around 30 minutes duration of red squirrel and the subject tracking was amazing for a smartphone.
Most of the missing features mentioned at the end are useless gimmicks and you can take macro shots all right on main or ultrawide lenses. There is AI automatic macro mode in basic mode and in PRO mode you can manually focus to macro distance. Optionally you can take tele macro. IMO best macro shots are with main lens 2x zoom. That's on my mark IV, on mark V should be even better. Fingerprint sensor is on perfect spot, however it's prone to fail if too dry or too wet fingers or when the sensor its dirty. My only complaint would be weak flashlight and focusing and quality of zoom lense above 100mm, and it needs almost perfect light conditions to be reliable. I also don't miss adaptive refresh rate, there is no issue with smoothness in 120Hz mode but rather with battery consumption.
I went from the Google pixel 6 pro to the xperia 1 iii and I absolutely loved it. I knew I have to change when I was trying to take a picture of my girl and the pixel simply refuse to focus on my girl, and I was so frustrated that something as simple as focus was out of my reach... The camera in the sony it's mesmerizing in the right hands
My pixel 7 pro has been honestly a disappointment and I'm looking to change after being a pixel fanboy for years Do you still think this phone is worth the change?
Xperia 1 iii user here, I've been using this phone as my daily since it came out, heck I pre ordered it to get the ear buds to try it all out. Went from an LG Stylo 4 to this and have used this since then with no issues. Eventually I got used to the camera, especially the pro app, and have gotten better at quickly setting up for a photo. I love it and hope to continue using it. Perhaps I may upgrade to the Xperia 1 V soon too
I agree, I expect after few tests no one will actually use 8k for now. 4k 120 makes sense for slow motion. More serious is that the main app cannot film 4k/60 - need to use Video Pro. And even then, the Sony does not allow to switch lenses when recording 4k/60.
I’ve experienced Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge with curved edge before never again using a Samsuck phone. Sony stick either Japanese design on their phone which I like while other follow the Chinese-ish design with those notch and hole some are worse than iPhone
I was torn between sony Xperia 1 V and S24 ultra. I really like the sony form factor, but it seems to have lots of ussues along with screen burn in. I like that the s24 has a flat screen, and nin reflective film applied. Leaning towards the samsung now.
OMG HARD TRUTH: no fm radio, no temperature sensor and lack of IRD - please wake up we are not in 00's - please tell me @Tech World when did you used fm radio instad of youtube or spotify... and when did you used ird to change channels in your TV instead pilot...
Most smart Tv's have their own android app for controlling the tv via your smartphone. I.R. is ancient tech compared to what the modern apps are capable of.
I've never heard of a phone having an ambient temperature sensor, considering the entire phone body heats up when used I doubt one could ever be accurate
Hmm...finger sensor is flawless and super quick and far superior to under the screen types and face unlock garbage. This phone is the hidden super gem of them all.
Are you referring to me or the reviewer? Myself I have had the mark V along with all the previous versions since launch. So yep the sensors have never failed and have become faster each phone revised. Maybe Vl sensor might be the same as the V but definitely quicker than the iii as example.
@@leetronix You. I'm saying you haven't had the current phone long enough to talk about the reliability of the sensor... 3 months is nothing, phones should last 3 years+ & there have been 1,000s of users that have reported broken fingerprint sensors (including myself) after long term use. Just because you like the sensor, doesn't mean it's not inherently flawed & less reliable long term than the underscreen sensors. It IS a problem.
Oh Kay...so where are these 1000s of cases about the sensors having issues, can you tell me what articles please or is making that claim as I have never seen or read about 1000s having these issues. Would be genuinely interested to look at this.
@@leetronix have you never checked the Sony support subreddits or forums? There are 1,000s of cases in those alone, not including people who just directly contact Sony, OR people like me that have the fault but are out of warranty & just deal with it. Why are you defending a corporation this hard? I like Sony, but what the fuck dudes you're defending them like it's your family or some shit, it's pathetic. It's a known issue that's all over support areas, go fucking look for yourself or search up some articles that aren't inherently biased in the search. Can't believe that's your response tbh, wow.
As usual there is 0 talk about Sony's LDAC sound, like do people testing these phones even use them other than on some benchmark testing? I surely mostly use my phone listening to music with Sony XM headphones and high quality music streaming service, nothing else comes to even close of that quality I hear everyday.
This "review" is hilarious. I have an Xperia 1 V and haven't experienced any kind of bugs or overheating, it has worked flawlessly out of the box. And only an absolute moron would have a hard time setting up their fingerprints on this phone, I've set up 3 fingerprints on my 1 V and never experienced any issues and the fingerprint sensor has worked amazingly, I'd say that it's the best fingerprint sensor that I've ever had on a cellphone. And what the hell is this guy talking about when it comes to the IR blaster and temp sensor? Which decade of phones is he comparing the Sony with? Those things haven't been in flagship phones for years. This guy is really digging into his bag of complaints, which doesn't really appear to be very full because all he's coming up with are the complaint dregs. Is the Sony perfect? No, not at all, but it is FAR better than this review suggests. Makes you wonder why they were so quick to take a dump on the Sony. It's the best phone that I've ever owned.
I wouldn't call the tiny thin bezels a win. I was sick of accidently hitting the screen by the note 20 let alone the newer Samsungs. The sony bezels are perfectly clean looking and functional
The voice sounds fake/generated, like the tiktok voice 🤮. The verbiage is overly flowery, like somebody pressed the thesaurus button too many times in word. I can totally see this being a real person's written voice, but still comes off as AI, all things considered.
i had a bug with my xperia 1 v where it restarted itself nonstop and after a few calls with sony and several restarts, it seems to have stopped on it's own. Other than that i love it, the fastest, most responsive, nicest screen i have ever seen and the camera is another level as well. never been slow on me and has enough ram to run 2 apps at the same time smoothly at 120hz. I highly recommend if you are in a position to purchase.
This phone is for people who want to photograph and shoot video. Not a single word about 10-bit video or how it is as a monitor on your Alpha camera. How are the photo- and video centric apps after three months of daily use? I guess it's hard to say when you haven't actually used the phone. Hard truth.. what a joke review.
Don't know about face unlock because I'm very happy with the fingerprint unlock but the statement about the LED is false. It works fine as flashlight; I just tried.
@@renatomachelett thanks for the reply, I'm gonna wait for the 5 V cause of the size, hopefully the camera's are on par with the s23 otherwise I'll be waiting another year for the next one.
Yep, I find i use the pin more than i end up using the sensor on my 1 III. I guess I'm old school that way. I'll probably end up waiting to upgrade on the vi, though. The III is still perfectly fine for me. But it'll be nice getting the big camera upgrades by then.
Temperature sensor? Which phone has this?? I don't use high refresh rate or 8k. I turn off the animations. SD card support and 3.5 mm jack are way more important and practical. I would only complain about the front camera
Lol when he started saying that it lacks temperature sensor or infrared sensor i expected for it to go into the direction of something like "just kidding, no major issues here" cause damn really ? What modern phone, even a flagship actually has radio or infrared or real temperature sensor lol. Oh and btw it has the customisable system colours and icons. So like huh ? it's not a perfect phone and there is a lot to criticise but this really wasn't it lol
I own Xperia 10 III, 10 IV and now 10 IV. Had no problem with the fingerprint sensor at all. Plus, I agree with some commenters that it is located at the most natural and convenient thumb placement.
This phone is simply brilliant! It has amazing display and camera. Expandable storage is so useful and flexible. I came from fold 5z - I liked the form factor of the folded state. This phone is the natural evolution. The phone is designed well with tactile back. The Sony case should be bundled with it.
Haptics and typing are phenomenal on Xperia 1 III, IV and V, they are work beasts. Finger reader is fine, you have to register the finger in every position once and not press it, only laying it
I thought it was same as 1iv which will do 60hz. It also reduces from 4K I believe when not being used. This is automatic however and cannot be changed manually.
Can we just agree on the fact that rich people who didn't like the 3 burner design of iPhone pro models will find this phone more stylish and unique to maintain their elite status
If you look at 0:59 the first camera is still not perfectly aligned to the back glass. The same is happening with my Xperia 1 V and some older Xperia phones i had. Not so good for this price range.
When your video has more dislikes than likes, you know you've done messed up and lied lol. I have zero fingerprint issues on my 1V. In actual fact, all the Sony phones I've had with side fingerprint unlock have had no issues at all.
This is my 5th and last Xperia. Got the Xperia 1V three months ago, nothing but issues. Blurry camera, frustrating Bluetooth connectivity issues ever since the Android 14 update, battery issues not charging, I've read on forums other people having the same problems. This is an excusable for a $1,500 phone. Not worth the headache.
If only it didn't stutter and lag like a pos 10 year old phone ! Sony doesn't give a crap about fixing issues. Yes i do have the 1 mark V and i wish i stuck with Samsung instead.
Hmmm!!! You complain bout finger sensor, you complain bout the wideness of the screen, you complain bout not having radio infact you complain bout almost everything bout this phone. What a critic!? In as much I don't have this phone or I can not afford it as of now.. But I have watched the reviews and the comparisons from other channels, 98-99% of the reviewers rated this phone well. Just some few people like you rating this phone negatively. Phone that beat Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra and others in many ways is the phone you're complaining nonesense. Sone Xperia 1V is not for children, is for professional users. If you can't handle it leave it instead of trash talking it.
it won me over with just tha Headphone Jack and SD slot without a need for a tool YES and i'm someone who held on to a Galaxy S7 because of those features despite i needed a tool to access tha SD tray for my Galaxy S7 but it's a very welcoming thing to not need a extra tool for any of tha SD features GG Sony u won me over in tha Cell Phone department! although i would rather have a button for tha POWER and access instead of a fingerprint thingy, but i'll take anything dat has a HEADPHONE JACK AND SD MEMORY options WITHOUT NEEDING A TOOL
Sony told also that if yoj have the camera in the display, you destroy the display so smart choise by sony like the fingerprint + powerbutton in 1 is also smart and keep in mind sony is the 1st one with a 4k oled display and the other brands will follow now with oled and also the headphonejack and sd card slot is amazing and smart. This is why I still drive my Pixel 3 XL. An oldie but goodie. It has the really high resolution screen and great front facing stereo speakers. That is what a phone needs. I am looking at an Xperia 1 mark, something. But cannot afford a 5. I guess as long as my OS 12 hangs in and my battery stays realistic I'll keep my pixel. But the front facing stereo speakers on the Sony, definitely keep my interest.

Every smartphone on the market right now sucks, they all have their flaws. I have a OP7Pro and nothing is good so I'm just replacing the battery. So sad. I don't like how sony's fingerprint scanner is not-in screen. My phone is 4 years old and has it. A shame, really.
My first mobile device was a sony J5
hi, could you tell me the audio quality of music using wired earbuds? and the battery life? I've also heard that automatic photos are not great and you will have to manually adjust the pictures before you take them. have you found this to be the case? I'm trying to decide if I should get this or the s23 ultra. thanks!
Sony fans I salute you all please keep sharing Sony's great revolutionary products Sony is a technology milestone since 1946 and we are Sony fan's and we will win the race of technology master..... Sony master of electronics
That was a typical Samsung ordered competitors review :)
It's better now I never liked big bezel phones
Yeah I'm kinda pissed about losing the iris sensor and IR blaster. I would be using those features daily, and the IR blaster plus routines could be so powerful, especially when so many people have split & window ACs, not central.
Having secure facial unlock was nice, going back to fingerprint isn't the worst, but iris was sooooo cool and worked through my glasses, and wouldn't have been affected by masks.
*Only Genius People Use Sony Smartphones ✌🏼*

So Genius that I’ve lost 800€ from the crappy 1 IV
My pixel 7 pro has been honestly a disappointment and I'm looking to change after being a pixel fanboy for years
Do you still think this phone is worth the change?
Xperia 1 iii user here, I've been using this phone as my daily since it came out, heck I pre ordered it to get the ear buds to try it all out. Went from an LG Stylo 4 to this and have used this since then with no issues. Eventually I got used to the camera, especially the pro app, and have gotten better at quickly setting up for a photo. I love it and hope to continue using it. Perhaps I may upgrade to the Xperia 1 V soon too
I need to do myself a favor to join the Sony winning team
Short of 8k video recording is con?? IT does 4k 120fps which is better .
I agree, I expect after few tests no one will actually use 8k for now. 4k 120 makes sense for slow motion. More serious is that the main app cannot film 4k/60 - need to use Video Pro. And even then, the Sony does not allow to switch lenses when recording 4k/60.
Curved edges on screens was a really stupid trend
What else you really don’t like on the phone?
I’ve experienced Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge with curved edge before never again using a Samsuck phone. Sony stick either Japanese design on their phone which I like while other follow the Chinese-ish design with those notch and hole some are worse than iPhone
My main issue with most smart phones
But serves a purpose I guess being more comfortable in your hands than angled edges
I was torn between sony Xperia 1 V and S24 ultra. I really like the sony form factor, but it seems to have lots of ussues along with screen burn in. I like that the s24 has a flat screen, and nin reflective film applied. Leaning towards the samsung now.

You haven't owned the phone long enough to give a review of the sensor.
I've had my 5 II for 3 years and the sensor stopped working about 2 years in.

Myself I have had the mark V along with all the previous versions since launch. So yep the sensors have never failed and have become faster each phone revised. Maybe Vl sensor might be the same as the V but definitely quicker than the iii as example.
@@leetronix You.

The sony bezels are perfectly clean looking and functional

i had a bug with my xperia 1 v where it restarted itself nonstop and after a few calls with sony and several restarts, it seems to have stopped on it's own. Other than that i love it, the fastest, most responsive, nicest screen i have ever seen and the camera is another level as well. never been slow on me and has enough ram to run 2 apps at the same time smoothly at 120hz. Sony makes arguably one of the greatest phones of all time. The US Market: never heard of it, or simply take a hard pass.

How are the photo- and video centric apps after three months of daily use? I guess it's hard to say when you haven't actually used the phone. Hard truth.. what a joke review.
I have read that the 1V also does not feature face unlock, and the llumination LED can only be used for taking photos (not as a torch). True ?
Don't know about face unlock because I'm very happy with the fingerprint unlock but the statement about the LED is false. It works fine as flashlight; I just tried.

Haptics and typing are phenomenal on Xperia 1 III, IV and V, they are work beasts. Finger reader is fine, you have to register the finger in every position once and not press it, only laying it
