The worst part about Sony pulling out of the USA is that for every manufacturer that does that, the more compounded the problem of the Samsung V Apple Duopoly gets. The market isn't supporting all these players, not because it inherently can't, but because the players choose to not support the market.
I miss 2012 where there were DOZENS of well liked manufacturers. The pool is shrinking all the time.

I stayed with my 1V instead of the 6. It wasn't screen size or 4k, but the camera apps. I absolutely love the dedicated camera apps and I completely loathe that vertical orientation they went to in the 6. Every other phone uses that and it really, really sucks when trying to go through the menus and taking a photo in landscape, which I do most of the time. Sony was the only phone with a native app that was clean and clear in a landscape format with settings, controls, etc. I think this was a good case of "trying to please everyone" and resulted in a worse device. I don't understand, the "Basic" mode in Photo-Pro was the everyday persons app, but you had the choice of the others. I hope the next iteration goes back to the separate apps with landscape orientation or at least the next iteration of the Pro phones do. All that being said, love your videos and reviews, please keep them coming and please keep bringing up Sony. Happy New Year Sir!

Pretty much is the reason Sony has lost a customer. If I wanted a phone with a great camera that is neutered by the app experience I am already spoiled for choice. I specifically did not buy the 1VI because the pro centric photo/video apps were no where to be found. For a brief moment Sony managed a phone that could replace a point and shoot and perform well enough to be used along side sony alpha cameras.

I have the 1 V and what I like most is the form factor. I have reg size hands and do not want a wider phone. The V sizing and weight compared to other phones is way better imo. Next best is the screen..its beautiful. The weight is lighter than other phones. I am not a pro photographer and for me the camera is too complicated when taking a quick pic and unless you know what ur doing pic quality will not be as good as other phones. Also my experience with the Sony Xperia 1V is it can be a bit buggy. The side power button fingerprint sensor is great when working but can be finicky. Ultimately unless Sony goes back to a slimmer form factor like the V and get their phones operating smoother I probably wont upgrade to a Sony. Honestly I dont like any of the new phones. Please Sony get back to setting your products apart from the rest. Their are plenty of us out there that appreciate the unique details, in particular the unique form factor.

Watched a Japanese techtuber a while ago, Sony hold the 2nd place on android market share 2024 in Japan with 19%+ , Sharp leading with 26%+ while Samsung and Google at 14%+ and 11%+ respectively.
Their main complain with Sony pretty much the same everywhere else, price. Also domestic brand in Japan usually got handicapped by carrier influence (Docomo, AU, SoftBank etc) with lots of pre-installed apps and software supports (tops at 3 year OS update, since more than that mean people won't trade in their older phone to newer model faster).

I've just acquired the US variant of the 5 IV via an auction on ebay (like new) and it's replacing my flip 6 as my daily driver without blinking an eye. And I have the 1 mk V working as my highway radar companion while driving. the flip and 2024 Razr plus I'm using as wifi remotes for my Astell & kern player while power walking..... and I also just sold my 15 max pro and I'm replacing it a 13 max pro and the 13 mini for the physical sims involved (switching back and forth as needed). I'm tired of companies pulling various options that I've valued (external storage and physical sim cards) and I'm now withdrawing from needing the latest and greatest rat race for good.

What disappointed me most is that apple has fucking surpassed Sony in mobile filmmaking. Like .. how???? Sony is literally a camera company. How does apple beat them at bringing better codecs?? The only real advantages Sony has at this point is the memory card slot and headphones jack which I do love but it doesn't matter if the 10 bit footage isn't as flexible as iPhones. I'm blown away with what the iPhone can do. Sonys basically doing qoa updates at this point

@@heikization Try pushing them both to their limits in color grading and you'll see Sonys image start to break. The Black magic camera app also works better on iPhone and I bet you it's because apple has a better processor compared to Sony crutching on snapdragon like everyone else.
Sony phones have cool advantages like their mic isolation tech and pro recording app, etc, but it's just not enough compared to what apples done.
iPhones also have a better camera UI that Sony just can't compete with for whatever reason.
With iPhone you can seamlessly flow between pro and casual modes where as Sony is just typical jank ass android shit. Sad really.

Not only in US, in Europe we still can found it in some carriers for deals but even though the majority of people don't even know that Sony is still making phones, when I bought 1 VI almost everybody was asking me if Sony was still making phones... In our country until 2024 Pixel wasn't officially sold here, and you can't get it though any carriers only when you import it from different country, but everyone knows about Pixel phones. On the other hand Xperia is still available at one carrier at least and still nobody knows that it is even existing...

I thought the entire software experience was poor. I had been using Samsung since the S8 and thought all Android phones looked mostly the same. I was shocked at how little attention Sony had for the software.
I switch back to my S20 after that!

I have the 1 mk4. It is a brilliant brilliant phone. However, in my view, it has been a major disaster with the chip heating itself into oblivion. Sometimes, I don't know how this phone is still working. It's so hot you can barely touch it, imagine how hot that tiny chip must be in there. This also triggers the phone to throttle down to unusable states and a massive battery drain. It makes me so happy to hear that they fixed all the heating issues because that was my only gripe with my current phone.
I'm looking forward to the next iteration that I might actually get. Sony 1 mk7, if it improves on the current formula, should be a magnificent beast! Nobody wants a hot phone, I hope they keep them cool next time around as well.
If there was something I would miss is the 4k screen. It was one of the only phones to be able to play its own recordings in full quality.
If there was something I'd improve a lot from my current phone, is the front facing camera. It's a bit low quality for this price point.
And I hope they keep the compatibility with the vlog monitor, otherwise it's there for nothing.

same here, fingerprint sensor is gone, and my camera sensor is no longer working, so I've been looking at the VI (which Verizon supports most bands), I've been looking at Xiaomi 15 Pro, which I think is amazing.

@@deroyjohnson4842 in my experience all the chinesium brands have oversharpened cameras and they`re just not overall great. Huawei was indeed, truly awesome, but the others feel one step down from that.
if the new sonys fix the heating issue, I`ll be happy.
my fingerprint sensor also stopped working. I sent it to get serviceed under warranty and they fixed it.
when I went with my huawei to get a new battery because my warranty covered it after 3 years, I also told them about the oled screen being burned in. They changed almost everything in that phone because the screen comes with all the accessories and the battery. all that was salvaged from the old phone was the motherboard and backplate.
I told sony that my oled screen is also burned in so they can fix it while they fix the fingerprint sensor. you know what sony did? nothing! that was very surprising! I had a tv that developed a dead pixel and they would either give me a new tv of the same but newer range, or a voucher for another sony tv. so I was expecting a better customer service regarding their mobile phones. I was slightly disappointed with them in that regard.

I've always wanted an Xperia phone. It has everything I want: Pro camera features/hardware, flagship SoC and an SD card slot. I could justify the really high price tag if it had similar software support as other manufacturers. Like you said, 3 years of software updates is an improvement but still far behind. The fact that it's been only 2 years until now has been a joke.

i am currently using 1 v as my work phone since 2023 along with se 2022 as personal phone...
the main reason why i did not upgrade to 1 vi is my upgrade cycle for a work phone - at least 3 years...
but i am afraid that if they continue with what they did on 1 vi (no 4k, 21:9 display), i am holding on further on my 1 v, besides, google play system update and feature drops from google is enough for me...
i also did not like the revamp on camera app... and how they do lens switching like everybody else...
but other people might like it, especially on the battery, 1 vi is the best xperia when it comes to battery, even surpassing the 10 series...
    ...
i also watched your video on x200 pro...
i preordered it on the first week of december and received it on the second week...
it is supposed to be an extra phone... but i am rethinking (since it can surpass 1 v's software support... so i can wait for longeeeerr before i get another xperia)...
but... but... but... sdcard and headphone jack are still crucial for my work phone... i cannot let go of them and the convenience they bring...

North America is comprised of two countries with one (US) being the creator of the only two OS used on mobile phones. And no, people don’t want to import phones from overseas, it’s expensive and risky if something were to happen to the phone.

@ that’s not what I’m referring to, I’m talking about if something were to happen to your phone such as dropping it or there was an issue with software. The RMA process would be atrocious, people would be without phones for months. With Google, Apple or Samsung, I can get a day or two turnaround and not be without a phone for months. I have a OnePlus Open and getting any type of help out here is horrific.
And it’s two different things, Google and Apple are private companies versus Xiaomi or Huawei which China has a stake in the company making it a government-backed company. US has no stake in Apple or Google, hence the court battles over the years for refusal to cooperate with them.

Not necessarily. There are various factors like how well the chipset handles connectivity as well as the network bands supported by the antennas. I imported a zenfone 9 from Japan. Works perfectly fine but I am mostly stuck on 4g lte in my area. However, been on a couple trips to different parts of the US and there I actually got some 5g at times. I don't really care much but the big thing to consider when buying a phone not meant for your regions is to research the network bands that it supports and compare to which bands you need supported.

They can at least do 5 years of system update support. I really think Sony left because of certain tech reviewers aka gate keepers. And once they say something is a domino effect. If they say don't get Sony get Samsung or Apple.. it just becomes a never ending repeating echo. And it's been years of this doing that with a whole bunch of other phone companies that's not here no more. And guess what we just only basically have now Samsung and Apple. I don't think no other company can even really exist in the United States Samsung and Apple has the Monopoly in the US. And I think the only reason why Google is surviving is because they are Google. And even if you go to the store Google is in a small little corner.

I got my 1 VI on Verizon (US Mobile) and absolutely love it. It's by far the best Xperia I've owned yet. I DO miss the notification LED, but that's it. I got the white version and it's beautiful.
I never liked the crazy tall aspect ratio of the older Xperia phones. I've had the 1 II, Pro-i, 1 IV, and now 1 VI. Both my 1 II and Pro-i actually had some real bend gate issues where over time the phone actually permanently bent from being in my pocket, likely from being so tall and narrow. My mark IV never bent though.
But yeah the screen is the best here and the battery is amazing. I do get 5G where applicable with Verizon thankfully. Absolutely my favorite phone since like the Nexus 6 I think. Bring her back to the USA!

Sony is disappointed in general with everything; they don't support their hardware very well, whether it's their phone, vision, or gaming division.

I got mine. Stuff I like, stuff I don't. Macro lens is cool, better speakers then the 5, can't tell difference really at all with screen downgrade, better battery then the 5. However don't like how there's no setting like the 1 V had in photo app to have last used photo settings come up when re launching the app. It goes right to basic mode. And I don't know about anyone else but the fingerprint sensor is far worse than the 5. Very clunky and doesn't work all the time. Needs fine tuning in areas

I'm sort of torned apart between Xperia 1 VI and Pixel 9 Pro. While I like Xperia because of screen withou any punch hole, aspect ratio and size, design, sound quality straight from the phone it is inferior in the software department. Lacking software support, subpar auto mode (this is a SMARTPHONE, not a DSLR camera), lazy pro video mode. Pixel 9 feels more reliable. Even when some AI features are not availbe in the EU.

Sadly the American market is so biased toward a single smartphone brand that nobody can't blame Sony or anyone for pulling away. Every brand already tried long enough and with amazing offerings and it never worked out. What's wrong with America is what we should be asking ourselves.

I'm sorry but Sony isn't making phones anymore for the USA. No one was buying them. I remember Xperia 1 pro. I was really hyped about it. But, as weird as it sounds I still kept going to the xZ2 compact. I think Sony was on its A game back then now it's sad they gone and comeback thing is getting old. I think Sony is done making smartphones

Sony looks good they are on their way to greatness they aren't there quite yet but it looks good none the less. I think Sony is kind of smart not selling in North America cause the likes of Apple which is going head to head in battle with Samsung and Google coming and starting to show the fight as well. Sony I think sees the handwriting on the wall and doesn't want to get into the fight here in the US with their high mid tier Xperia series phone(s). I would love to see them step their game up and give better support to at least five years. But it's great to see the variety of phone talks/reviews you do Adam. Keep them coming and we'll see YOU 🫵🏼 on the next one

Once again thanks for your honesty and opinion of the sony phone.. i have it but i am still using my sony Xperia 1 mark 4.. i am in UK England and i am very very disappointed with sony
Why they don't sell the their phone in the U.S.
I just hope is watching this and learn something or to because what are saying is the truth and if sony just going to focus on Europe and other countries that to me is just selfish behaviour if you want a product to sell then go out sell and market your prouct like other mobile companies are doing i just think so y is backward and stupid i don't care if sony is reading this i feel let down 👎.. its not fare for a lot of people in America who wants the sony Xperia 1 mark 6.. so whats next about sony just pure disappointment
And no one from sony as the descent to try and resolve this matter.. but thank you for your lovely video always love it and love listening to big massive thanks from me
Sony wake the hell up and do better..

Aesthetically the mark v is more attractive to me, I love the separate apps etc. I love it to a ridiculous level but don’t think i can begin to justify keeping it when the updates and support from Sony are so lacking. I love the camera, particularly the macro and battery life on the mark vi but sent that back cos i loved the mark v more, i still don’t know if I should just bite the bullet and get the v/vi. I currently have a flip 6 and get huge discounts on Samsung so not sure if i should just wait for the s25 ultra with trade in. I think at the back of my mind, i am wondering if the Xperia vii is going to be the ultimate phone

The last Sony phone I had some years ago, talk about a disaster, I'd only had it 3 days, loved it, but then it refused to turn off and was red hot, 🔥 we didn't feel it was safe to leave overnight indoors and this was like 10pm at night it decided to get hot, so we put it in a plastic bag and then in a carrier bag and we tied it on the washing line in the garden. Next morning, the glass was cracked all over where it'd got so hot, I returned it to the O2 store and I got a full refund. No idea what had caused it, but never known a phone to get that hot before. I'd had Sony Experia phones before and loved them until that one.... Put me off after! 😂

yep. there's no reason for a display that small to be anything more than 1080p. I would say _because_ they made the screen lower res they were able to push more lumens out of the panel.
for $1400, 3 years of support is still abysmal. you could go to walmart and buy a $100 samsung A series and that has 3 years, and the $1400 flagships are pushing 7-8 years support now. that's enough time for people to use the phone to it's demise.

And now there are phones out there with better manual cameras that also have better Sony sensors like the Xiaomi 14 ultra, Oppo find X8 pro and the Vivo x200. It's a hard sell to get another Sony for that kind of money. Longtime Xperia fan but if the 1 VII isn't good i jump to another brand.

5g is a hoax anyway. I've only had one 5g phone that actually gave me 5g speeds and that was the OnePlus 7 Pro. The evidence of this is the mobile TH-cam test. If you can watch TH-cam at the highest setting(not the lower default quality they start you with) without your phone buffering every 3 seconds then that's true 5g. I've had iPhone 11, 13, Galaxy S21 and 22 Ultra, and the Google Pixel 6 Pro and none of them would allow me to get even close to watching TH-cam at the highest quality unless I was connected to WiFi.
